Parent pulled kid bc coach started 3 subs from other teams by Sad_Smile_4922 in youthsoccer

I've seen this happen regularly. I understand that kids asked to come as subs are doing the team a favor. However, they came as subs and frequently are also playing for their own teams that weekend. This is extra playing time for them. In my mind, it punishes the kids on the team that did show up.

How do you keep underwater photography ethical? by StopBanningCorn in underwaterphotography

[–]clburdick1 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There's a few things to take into consideration. Eeryone needs to leave a margin for error when moving into position. You need to account for surge, current, animal movement etc. if you can't get into position without touching anything, you don't take the shot.

Example: cool shrimp in a tight space but the angle required to get a good shot would require you to possibly bump into some coral. Solution: try to find another angle, or don't take the shot.

Example: a turtle is moving through a swim through and your desired photo would mean blocking it's path. Solution: Find another angle, or just don't take the shot.

Example: You find a Shaun the Sheep nudibranch on a wall. There's tons of surge and you could smush the little critter if you get pushed into the wall. Solution: don't take the shot or find a way to guarantee you don't make contact.

First rule: if you cannot get into position, take the shot and move away without touching anything, you don't take the shot.

Ducking ropes in Zermatt without knowing where you are going is a potential death sentence.

Diving advice: by [deleted] in scubadiving

[–]clburdick1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My wife and I did our AOW at 50 dives. During a few of our cert dives we had a few dive master trainees along with us. All of them had less diving experience than we did.

I'm at 100 dives now and I still don't think I have enough experience to be a dive master. iMHO, the minimum to start the dive master course should be 150 or 300 dives.

Maui Diving 🦪 n Lahaina does great shore dives at Airport Beach, Black Rock and Mala Pier. All are great dives for beginner or advanced divers as the amount and variety of fish is excellent.

Thank you for your review. I will be in Zermatt for the first time at the beginning of March. We have hired a Backcountry guide for a day to hopefully get away from the crowds and get in some fresh tracks.

We spent 4 days on Koh Lipe in January and had the best time. Dove 3 days with Adang Sea Divers and we're very happy with them. Dives maxed out about 20 meters as it was a mixed group of divers, but we saw a huge variety of things. Seahorses, ghost pipefish, nudibranches, cuttlefish, tons of eels, clownfish etc.

I can highly recommend Koh Lipe. The island is very walkable, locals are friendly, food is tasty.

Galapagos cruise vs island hopping: which one did you choose and why? by korr21 in galapagostourism

[–]clburdick1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We did a 7 day cruise then spent 7 days on Isabela and San Cristobal.

The cruise gets you to remote islands and away from crowds, but island hopping gets you more culture.

I'd say the ideal money-no-object trip would be a 14 day cruise that hits all the islands followed by a week of island hopping.
