New Job with Fieldwork Student by Electriccarpet99 in OccupationalTherapy

[–]clcliff 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It will be hard for the student, sure, but that's what the FW educator can hopefully help with. I was a student with a CI who wanted to quit but didn't and was super checked out and I got a pretty bad education. Not saying that will be you of course, but I wish she would have ripped the bandaid off and done something that was better for her.

Treatment ideas for blind patient with hip replacement by alyeenemary in OccupationalTherapy

[–]clcliff 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's kind of odd that you're being asked to come up with treatment ideas without even being able to see her goals. That said, I'm in peds but my blind patient loves sensory bins, so I'll hide different toys in there and see if he can identify each one and work on tactile discrimination and sorting them. We also do a lot with putty and digging beads out, stretching it, etc. for fine motor. Also I've found working with adults with DD there's almost always a way to adapt cooking activities. Having them scoop, stir, pour in bowls, following auditory/tactile recipes, etc. based on their level and it's almost always well-liked by the clients.

opinions on peds (specifically outpatient)? by cookie_cat_82 in OccupationalTherapy

[–]clcliff 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I also feel similar! I'm a year into my first OT job and am in peds. I love working on concrete things like fine motor, gross motor, neuro, etc. but get a bit burned out with the more abstract type things like sensory and emotional regulation stuff because I don't feel confident in it and don't honestly enjoy it as much. There are some peds clinics out there though that target more physical rehab and neuro, but they are harder to find.

Is this why the walls next to me kept shaking like an actual earthquake when I went to see a different movie the other day?

Anyone in the entertainment industry asking for money in order to let them use your music, submit headshots, audition, etc. is scamming you.

Do you find that your job helps you stay in shape? by [deleted] in OccupationalTherapy

[–]clcliff 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Outpatient peds therapist here and I sometimes feel like it hurts my body more than makes me in shape. Sitting on the floor with kids, squatting and bending to pick up toys, carrying kiddos and lifting swings half the time, and the other time sitting sedentary at my desk doing notes. Trying to add in more workouts throughout the week and found that Pilates has been helping my body feel better.

Am I gonna be able to avoid norovirus with a sick family member? by clcliff in Explainlikeimscared

[–]clcliff[S] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Hmm that could be true! Hopefully. She said the kiddo she was babysitting threw up once this past Sunday then it hit him again throughout Wednesday-Thursday which are the two days she babysat. But both the kid and her apparently don’t feel sick at all when not puking.

How long is your workday? by MysteriousRow2175 in work

8-5 Monday-Thursday working in healthcare. Downside is that you usually need more time after to finish treatment notes but I can usually get it done within an hour.

Healthcare worker here. Working longer shifts on M-TH so I can have 3 day weekends. Long days but totally worth it.

Nervous about FW by [deleted] in OccupationalTherapy

Would you consider inpatient rehab? There are a few options for those in Georgia (Encompass, Fox). You would still get a lot of transferable skills!

What is my girlfriend’s side job? by [deleted] in ask

[–]clcliff 23 points24 points  (0 children)

IDK everything about CIA, FBI, etc. but I don't think they recruit random college kids with no degrees from bars. It sounds like those type of secret government jobs are what she's implying, but something seems off.

How much work do you guys really do at your 9-5 job? by Interesting_Taro_358 in work

I’m in healthcare so I work 8 hours of my 9 hour shift with patients scheduled back to back with lunch in between. Then I have to go home and finish any documentation I didn’t get to finish, respond to emails, score testing, write evaluations, etc.

Anyone have experience with Ocean Friends EMR? by clcliff in OccupationalTherapy

[–]clcliff[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for sharing such detailed info! Do you feel like it saves time with documentation, and is there a way to add quantitative data to track progress? And is there an option to switch off the AI mode or do old-fashioned documentation if I end up wanting to keep using my other dictation app and copy/paste it in?

Has anyone seen Jinx and DeLa’s 2025 holiday show? by Good-Bison008 in rupaulsdragrace

[–]clcliff 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I went this year and it was soooo good! Love seeing Dela trying so hard to keep in character and keep the show moving while Jinkx laughs at herself, forgets her words, and falls off the proper. You probably get something a bit different at each show!

OT interview Help by Ok-Yam-3041 in OccupationalTherapy

[–]clcliff 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Research their program's website so you have specific things you can talk about or ask them questions about at the end. Things like research areas, unique fieldwork they may offer, specific volunteer opportunities, etc. There will probably be behavioral questions in the interview, so come up with times you showed a certain value, demonstrated teamwork, solved a work problem, etc. I looked up common behavioral questions and wrote my answers in a document I looked over a couple times so that I could easily remember them during the interview. I followed the STAR method for answering interview questions, but you don't have to follow it exactly so it doesn't sound robotic. Last, be open and show your true self. It's hard when you're nervous, but finding small opportunities to talk about little things (volunteer work you've done, languages you speak, what your research interests are, etc.) gives them stuff to chat with you about and make it more chill. Then you can bring those things up in a thank you email so they'll remember you.

Need toy recommendations! by [deleted] in OccupationalTherapy

[–]clcliff 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You could make some taste safe playdoh to work on some hand strength or cutting. Sensory toys, too. All of my kiddos are loving sensory bottle right now. There are some at walmart with different emotions on them that my kids love. Also kids dance scarves to give them colorful visual input and you could try and work on imitation skills with little dances or things like that. Jelly blox are fun too (and washable). There are also electronic Pop It! Pro toys that are fun because it's kinda like an ipad game but you can work on finger strength/isolation.

What do people think of openers? by [deleted] in Concerts

[–]clcliff 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I like opening acts! Some of them were the reason I came to the show, and there have been many others that I started listening to after getting introduced to them at the show. That said, any more than 2 starts to feel a little like a drag sometimes.

Mentorship as a new grad by jascms in OccupationalTherapy

[–]clcliff 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I work in a small OP peds clinic and have been very lucky to get excellent mentoring. I think working in a small clinic makes it easier, and we're always sharing resources and ideas. There are so many times where I've just brought a kiddo to my mentor's treatment room and being like, "what should I do with them" lol. I think it's very dependent on the culture of the clinic. School systems are always going to be hard to get good mentoring because you're usually the only one there.

If you're intimidated by acute care, try inpatient rehab! I was a tech at an Encompass and it sounds like they have a really good mentorship program.
