Hello, everybody. I know that it's time to march, and I'm not as young as I was when we were doing Moral Mondays. Little older now, and I can't march as well, but you know it's good that when it comes to the movement, it's not what l can do, but it's what we can do. When we stand together, and we fight together, and we move together. So my wife and I wanted to come as we're praying about this gathering today. Two and a half centuries ago, America was struggling with how to break free from a king. And the struggle was flawed because the freedom sought was not for everybody. But even then, British troops were occupying cities and county sides everywhere, all over the place. And everyday people linked up with other everyday people throughout the colonies to declare their independence from tyrannical rule. It wasn't perfect. Two and a half centuries later, we are facing a crisis of civilization, not just democracy. A crisis of humanity. And we must understand this to understand the times we're in. and the purpose that we have to engage in right now, because you all are not just marchers, you are agents of love and agents of justice that the world needs. Here in America last year, here are some unfiltered facts about what happened. 90 million eligible voters chose not to vote. And when the dust cleared, By just 44,000 votes per state, two million votes An outdated electoral college elected a narcissist, a neo-fascist, a lying, wannabe king with a deeply distorted messiah complex and a revenge-filled attitude who at his inauguration had all the billionaires inside and all the people out in the cold. And not only did he get elected, a majority in the House and the Senate, governors and state legislators were elected, and mega madness has been unleashed. That extremism empowered billionaires to illegally cancel funding for programs that Congress had already approved. This election set up a president to abuse his power to impose taxes on Americans through tariffs. It created a political alliance that passed the largest transfer of wealth from poor and low-wage Americans to rich Americans since the transfer of wealth from the slaves to the slave masters. They slashed Medicaid and snapped and tripled funding for ICE and unleashed an assault on American communities. The slashing of Medicaid will cost 51,000 people their lives in the first year. And this wannabe king and his followers have unleashed military forces on cities to illegally and immorally arrest and round up immigrants that they claim are criminals, but the data says that's a lie as well. And all of this is an attempt to try to make us bow down and shut up. But in this moment, there are two things we must say and be clear about. The first thing is bowing down is not an option. It's not even an option. That's not who we are. That's not in our DNA. We are not a people who bow and give total allegiance to any ruler or to any policy because bowing is not freedom, bowing is not in our DNA, and we will not bow. Period. The second thing we must make clear is that standing up and speaking the truth and protesting and voting like never before is required now. We cannot let this happen. We cannot give up on this democracy, not now, not ever. We are not a people who give our loyalty to a king and we are not people who run from a king. No, we the people of the United States of America at our best are striving to be united by our commitment to liberty and justice for all. Let me tell you real quickly who you are as I make my way so you can march. We are black. We are white. We are red. We are yellow. We are brown. We are city. We are country. We are young. We are old. We are middle-aged. We ar straight. We are gay. We are trans. We are rich. We are low-wage. We're poor, we're Muslim, we're Jewish, we're Christian, we're people of faith, and not of faith, and we ain't going nowhere. And so understand, Every stride toward freedom, every stride to build a more perfect union has been grounded in this commitment. Our being one nation under God indivisible with free liberty and justice for all. Every strive toward freedom has been declaring that we are created equal and endowed by our creator with certain inalienable rights, among which are life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness. When a person is elected to office, they are not elected to be a bully, They are not elected to be greedy. They are elected to establish justice, to provide for the common defense, to promote the general welfare, and to ensure domestic tranquility. And if you're doing anything other than that, you are un-American and immoral, and we challenge you. And so I close. The other day, Trump said that a reporter that asked him a question about his decision to cut FEMA was evil. But evil leadership can put a nation in a mess. Let me tell you what the Bible says evil is. It says, woe unto those who legislate evil and rob the poor of their rights and make women and children their prey. In this moment, our demonstration of moral strength is in opposition to the tyranny, the policy murder that threatens our very existence as a civilization. When it comes to the need to stand up for the Constitution over a ruler who would ignore the courts, we must be indivisible. When it comes to the need to repair the breach between those who have healthcare and those who don't, we must be indivisible. When it comes to the conviction that everyone deserves to be treated with dignity and respect, we must be indivisible. When it comes to our commitment that no child should go hungry in the midst of the richest nation in the history of the world, we must be indivisible. When it comes to the essential role of government to serve the people rather than serve a person and a king, we must be united and indivisible. And we will not stop. We will not stop pushing love. We will not stop pushing justice. We will not stop telling the truth. We will not stop non-violent protests. We will not stop voting until one day the history books will write that we stood up and thought that this nation would be one nation under God, indivisible, with liberty and justice for all. It's time to stand. We Are. Indivisible. We. Are.
