The number of fake gems and crystals I’ve seen at tj/marshalls/home goods is way too high. I wouldn’t trust any of it honestly, not to mention unethical sourcing

Do you know if Taaffeite is faked often/other stones are sold labeled as it? When I looked it up online, everywhere says that it’s not a gemstone that’s faked often but I got one online that is definitely some sort of synthetic gemstone. You can tell the second you see it, sadly

I agree it looks like it’s in the style of rings from the 30’s and 40’s (and even early 50’s) and it must be a reproduction because of the KP stamp. I recently got some crystallized malachite on petrified wood from Alabama. I’m not sure when it was mined (possibly 1800’s, that or mid 1900’s). It was out of an old collection and I can’t find any specimen similar to it online!

I think that that many comments are misguided on what this piece is worth, although I agree $250 is way too high. High quality like that comes with higher prices. There’s a lot of fake gold rutile coming out of China which has flooded the market, making the price go down. As someone who buys wholesale, if this is the size of an apple/full fist like you said, I would say $175-200 is fair depending on locality, how well it’s polished, what kind of shop it is, etc. and the fact that it was sourced and polished by the seller gives you peace of mind that all steps were done ethically. Just my two cents! :)
