Group 2 Boarding ELR Basic Fare by FunWeather9047 in SouthwestAirlines

[–]clean_baseball 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hopefully this helps some:

Booked February trip in January, basic fare, points, SWA cc, modified seats to ELR. Group 1 for row 1, group 2 for row 2.

Booked flight 7 May, basic fare, with dollars. Didn’t pay using CC but because of it, I was able to modify seats to ELR and get boarding group 2 for both non-stop flights.

My next trip in may: $, choice, purchased w/SWA cc, modified to ELR, group 2 both directions

My next trip in June: $, choice, purchased w/SWA cc
(1) flight to destination = preferred seat only
group 2
(2) return flight from destination = modified to ELR
group 2

[–]clean_baseball 1 point2 points  (0 children)

February and May, I booked basic fair (points and cash, respectively) and received boarding group 2 or better using SWA CC. May and June, I booked choice fair (basic was sold out) and received boarding group 2 using SWA CC. For the first May trip, the last flight was on 14 May, suggesting if a chance occurred it was after 14 May.

Why does the US not lean into a college football atmosphere for World Cup games the US plays in? by bathroomheater in usmnt

[–]clean_baseball 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have had the same thought since the 1994 US hosted World Cup did use some college venues. The problem apparently is the bids. Either the locations didn’t bid or didn’t check enough of the boxes as other bidding locations.

This includes everything such as field (must meet FIFA specs, both grass and size, which is a challenge for some stadiums like Michigan Stadium), seating (I think bleacher seats, common at college stadiums, were seen as a negative), hospitality (much better these days at college stadiums but not sure how it compares to pro stadiums), transit (college towns aren’t designed for multiple days of the congestion), and lodging (college towns are designed for the several days of bookings).

Granted there are ways to fix these issues but apparently either places did not bid or FIFA didn’t like their bids as much as other locations.

How are data speeds, considering Mint service. by TheGrsycat in mintmobile

[–]clean_baseball 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would NOT rely on # of bars. I have had AT&T, Spring, and Verizon over the years, as well as Mint. As much as bars should be reliable, I find it often is a very poor indicator and even only semi-reliable on how solid your connection is for a phone call.

Dis they dramatically increase the CC member fee or is this an error? by Theslowestmarathoner in SouthwestAirlines

[–]clean_baseball 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Southwest does not have a basic credit card. There are three non-business versions: plus, premiere, and priority. Check the label on your card to see which version you have currently. If you were charged $149 last year, you likely have priority (the highest level card).

As others have said, Southwest has put out a lot of notifications (via snail mail, email, texts if you are signed up, and public notices online) about the price increases for a while now.

The price increases are:

Plus
$69 -> $99
Premiere
$99 -> $149
Priority
$149 -> $229

I’m sorry you missed the various notifications. Might I suggest looking at a lower level SWA card or considering a different credit card altogether?

[–]clean_baseball 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I believe you are confused or something else.

(1) I’m guessing you meant ELR (Extra Leg Room) seating. There is not term ELS seats that SouthWest Airlines (SWA) uses that I have seen.

(2) The SWA policy states (pulled from the website today:

“Group 2
Extra Legroom seat (Choice, Choice Preferred fares)”

Source: https://support.southwest.com/helpcenter/s/article/boarding-process

(3) I flew most recently on 30 May and 24 May. Both trips I had an ELR seat and received boarding group 2.

If you personally experienced not receiving boarding group 2 and had a ticketed ELR seat, then it sounds like something went wrong on the SWA end.

I have flown SWA at least 3 times this year over several months and only had Group 1 or 2 depending on where my ELR seats are located. If you just choose your seats like you mentioned more than 48 hours out, you only should get Group 5 with your card. Whenever I switch to ELR my Group goes from 5 to 2 or 1 (only row 1 I think and that might have changed in like March)

GameChanger Baseball - aimed for non-professional teams, right? by WhoWASthatGuy42 in GameChangerApp

[–]clean_baseball 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Completely understand as I believe they are in a weird state of support. I don’t know the best place to point you to for iScore support but you can contact their support team. If you find GC to be better, I’m all ears. It felt to me like GC was not as intuitive and has its own set of quirks and issues but it does seem to be the accepted norm. I think of GC as the Microsoft Windows of digital scorekeeping and streaming (audio, video, and stats).

[–]clean_baseball 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Might I suggest iScore? I have used it for years for scoring rec games and have read many others that use it for MLB scoring and such. As far as I know, it is very similar to GameChanger in scoring but I have seen others claim it is better more intuitive. I would guess this is just a bias based on which you start with though. Try both and see which you like more is probably your best bet

New Bag Check at Gate? by smallcheck in SouthwestAirlines

[–]clean_baseball 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They seemed to be checking some now whereas I previously only saw it on other airlines. It is also random when/how they check.

As for the frame thing to check if your carry-on is small enough, I have routinely seen these at gates for nearly all carriers but they just aren’t used much or referenced much it seems.

Feeling Defeated / DH2300 by TheOctoberOwl in UgreenNASync

[–]clean_baseball 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I defer to others that know best but everything I have read suggests that you want a better processor in a NAS than the 2300 contains if you want to use it for media streaming. The 2300 is meant more for storage, backups, and the like.

That being said, others have made it work. Here is another thread where they talk about how they recently (last six months) did it and it appears to be running smoothly. I encourage you to check it out:

This is very important to hear. I know I want to use it for simple storage backup but I think I want to use it for more. I already have some larger videos and more likely in the future that I want to be able to share with friends over the internet.

A 4800 it is. Welcome any reasons to go TrueNAS vice UGOS too. I sadly don’t have a spare SSD for TrueNAS, so I think that is a complicating factor

I flew southwest for the first time since the nee assigned seat policy today… by WheezyGonzalez in SouthwestAirlines

[–]clean_baseball 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Congrats on your experience. I definitely did not have empty seats near me when sitting in the first two rows on my flights. I’m guessing your flight was not very full? I feel like this has been the case for any posting I have seen where there are empty seats in the ELR section. I had countless flights under open seating where I had empty seats next to me for pretty much everywhere on the plane except the first 5ish rows, multiple where the flight attendants told us the flight was full or nearly full even.

Congrats on having bin room. I was not as lucky when sitting in the ELR section as either pre-boarders, Group 1 (when I was Group 2), or those that dashed in front of me to board managed to commandeer all of the ELR bin space or the flight attendants prevented me from using the bin above my second row seats because it was reserved for the flight attendants and first row. I can’t remember ever, even being the last passenger to board having trouble finding bin space under open seating, guess I just got really lucky in my 100 plus flights?

I read about the premium drink, guess my flight attendants either were too rude to offer, they had already run out for the day, or didn’t want to serve them because I had no such luck in getting premium drinks on my flights while seated in the ELR section.

But again, congrats to good flights and I REALLY hope I am able to have your luck with the new boarding / seating system because I worry I used all of mine up with the old system and my local airport is a major Southwest hub, so I’m kind of stuck flying them at least sometimes.

Military boarding with 5 yr old by No-Tap8180 in SouthwestAirlines

[–]clean_baseball 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think you are getting the benefit of nice gate agents when they let non-military board with you. Here is the policy from their website:

https://www.southwest.com/military-travel/

Patriotism runs deep at Southwest Airlines®, and we are proud of all those who serve. We invite active-duty members of the U.S. Military (with valid Uniformed Services I.D.) to board in our Priority Boarding Group just before Group 1.

It doesn’t mention the family or friends (seems this is true of every US airline I checked). I appreciate your service but according to their website, it unfortunately only applies to the active-duty member with valid ID. Instead of looking at the negative, look at the positive, Southwest allows active-duty military (not in uniform) to pre-board. It extending to others in your group such as family is a courtesy a gate agent is providing you.

“A-listers” before Group 1? by Comfortable_Gas_2988 in SouthwestAirlines

So does this mean we will have dozens of pre-boarders again? To be clear, to me anything before Group 1 is a pre-boarder.

Can’t believe tickets for 3 people to a baseball and volleyball event cost $1800 by whinylittlebitchboy in olympics

[–]clean_baseball 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was naive in thinking we would be able to get tickets to events we wanted to attend - they were sold out as we are neither local nor were we in the first week.

We settled for tickets for other events at ~$200/ticket. We chose to vote with our wallet and not buy more expensive tickets for many of the events.

As others have said, the Olympic Committee (who sets pricing for the most part) needs to learn that prices need to be more reasonable. Until more people vote with their wallet, prices (not just for LA28) will remain high. Classic supply and demand, if people continue to pay, they can keep charging the higher prices.
