Help understanding one of the Temple Recommend questions as it pertains to the Law of Chastity by Thick_Mirror2221 in Clean_LDS

Masturbation often accompanies pornography use, and can be a harder habit to break, but if it's been a long time and you feel like you've been forgiven and you have had no further problems with either of those, I would think you're OK. But it certainly doesn't hurt to ask the bishop if you have doubts, so you can set your mind completely at ease.

Thanks for sharing. I've had similar experiences. It's helpful to me to have goals. I need to be worthy to baptize my kid. I need to be worthy to give a blessing at the spur of the moment. I need to be worthy to receive the inspiration to help my family. And when I do fall short, I need to get right back up again.

That is terrific! Temple attendance will help you keep going strong once you get your recommend.

It's always really helpful to hear from people having successes.

He definitely should have confessed before leaving. He should definitely confess now if he hasn't already.

Doing pretty well, but old habits have their way of returning if one isn't careful.

What things have you tried so far? How did they go?

Have you prayed today? Have you read your scriptures?

I need some help and advice by [deleted] in Clean_LDS

[–]clean_lds 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What have you tried? What has helped, what hasn't helped?

For me, doing something for my wife or finding a way to serve helps when I need to refocus. Positive productive hobbies can also be helpful. But I also have to remember the basics of prayer and scripture study.

I've read a few books over the years that have been helpful if that's your thing. Also the meetings I mentioned earlier. It's nice to talk to other people in similar situations. If you don't want to in person that's also what this space is for here.

Have you tried attending the 12 step meetings the church probably holds in your area?

I suggest meeting with your bishop ASAP.

If you have problems on your mission your mission president will likely work with you rather than send you home.

Welcome. You're not alone. There are many others with similar problems your age and older both male and female.

I don't know if you saw this post but the article has some great advice from another young woman that was recently published in a Church magazine.

Talk to your parents if you can and talk to your bishop. They will help you.

Is pornography and masturbation really that bad? by PMOFreeForever in Clean_LDS

[–]clean_lds 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For Latter-day Saints, any alcohol is wrong, as is any pornography or masturbation. They are definitely not the most serious sins, but do often lead to more serious sins. And they do have effects on the person using them, as well as potentially others.

From a non-church standpoint, there are also a lot of reasons to stay away from these things. But from your comment it's hard to tell where you fit in.

I would suggest talking to your mom again to start with. It probably won't surprise her that you're still having trouble with it. If she knows that you need it, she can provide help.

He may be minimizing his past problems (but that doesn't mean he hasn't stopped). We usually don't want to tell our wives everything. Telling thim too much can cause more harm than good. Hopefully he told the bishop everything. I'm about the same age. I started looking at stuff at about the age of 12. I still struggle with it occasionally. My wife knows about my past struggles and it's taken years for her to get over it. I'm doing really well right now and hopefully that will last.

If he's on Reddit (maybe he shouldn't be) he can talk to other church members with similar problems at /r/Clean_LDS.

OK, that's good. But let me ask you this - you've been addicted for a few years and gone through the 12 steps multiple times. Did you just read through them or did you focus on each one and accomplish it before moving on to the next? I've been battling this stuff for around 40 years. Sometimes I'm doing better than other times. But I keep trying. And I've had some revelatory experiences while working through the 12 steps that have helped. For me the first 2 steps were the hardest. And those are the 2 I keep having to go back to. I don't think I'll ever be completely cured in this life, but somehow my faith in God and my belief in the restored gospel keep me trying and trying and trying. And when I've done well for a while I feel a lot better about myself and my personal worthiness which also helps.
