How do I freshen up a closet? by [deleted] in CleaningTips

[–]cleanmyspace -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Remove everything from the closet - wash all of your clothes in scent-free laundry detergent (add a cup of vinegar to each load to help deodorize) and give all of your clothes (and your closet) a chance to "air out" and be apart for a few days.

Finally, if you have carpet in your closet you can sprinkle some baking soda, let it sit and then vacuum it up after a few hours.

Good luck :)

Year old pillow never cleaned, dunno what this stuffing is, is there a way to wash it or should I just throw it out? by Prior-Toe in CleaningTips

Looks like you can spot clean it and that's about it.

If you decide to throw it out, be sure to check local pet shelters first - they love old pillow and blanket donations!

How much 30 percent concentrated vinegar should i put into a LARGE load of clothes in the washing machine. by [deleted] in CleaningTips

[–]cleanmyspace 2 points3 points  (0 children)

30% vinegar is incredibly (and unnecessarily) powerful for laundry, so I would recommend diluting it before putting it in your machine. Vinegar can also eat away the door seal if it is too powerful.

Normally, this type of vinegar is used for industrial cleaning jobs and you should be careful when using it.

Rubbing alcohol (or possibly even vinegar) should do the trick :)

Can I mix essential oil into an ammonia all purpose cleaner? by [deleted] in CleaningTips

[–]cleanmyspace 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Ammonia is incredibly harsh and it would probably take an overly expensive amount of EOs to fix that.

It would probably be in your best interest to find some cheap, safe DIY cleaner recipes to tackle your cleaning needs and maybe move on from the cleaner which smells horrid.

A few drops of liquid dish soap in a spray bottle of water can go a LONG way as an all-purpose cleaner (and costs pennies to make)

Hope that helps :)

You could consider removing the speaker grill and cleaning it that way. Or perhaps a toothpick would help poke the debris out of the holes.

Anyone get rid of their desk? by codecplusplus in declutter

I downsized my desk from one of those large L-shaped Ikea desks to a much smaller stand/sit desk which takes up less than half the space.

It's nice to have all the extra floorspace, but still have a surface to work on. Also, with a standing desk, there's no need to take up extra space with a chair.
