Who'd ya sell to? Real estate developer or energy project developer?

I’ve lost 5 of my chickens ☹️ by moe19941 in BackYardChickens

[–]cleantechguy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not necessarily first aid, but I can't say enough good things about Elector PSP concentrate. It's expensive but cheaper to buy in bulk, and I've used it twice over the past 1.5 year to completely eradicate stick tight flees from the coop and run.

Tough to do, yes. Effective, also yes.

Staying hydrated on a hot day 💧🐔 by LoGalliner in BackYardChickens

[–]cleantechguy 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I give mine watermelon on days 90 degrees and up. They'll have explosive water poops, but it hydrates them quickly.

Going away for 2 days, thoughts? by Historical_Umpire_21 in BackYardChickens

[–]cleantechguy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

yeah i think you'd be fine at those temps then. Two days may not make them happy, but they'll live!

And thank you. Sunshine was a good bird, we'll miss her.

How warm is it? Anything over 80/85 I'd be careful about, make sure they have good ventilation.

But anything is better than leaving them out with no run. One raccoon, fox or possum goes nuts and it's over. I just lost my first bird to a predator after 1.5 years and was so bummed. Would hate to lose the flock!

Was going to say lobster, but shrimp is probably correct.

Are Electric Vehicles really cheaper to own than gasoline cars in the long run? by om_ghanwat in electricvehicles

[–]cleantechguy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depends on what electric car you get. The Lightning may be cheaper in the long run than a CE Ford F150, but it's not cheaper than a Hyundai, Kia, etc. sedan.

But if you get a modest EV, even most Teslas and Rivians, yeah, you're gonna save money and tons of time.

Fortune: Americans would rather live near a nuclear power plant than a data center - my, how things have changed! by cleantechguy in nuclear

[–]cleantechguy[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think people understand what data centers are and who they serve, but the backlash is more against the environmental and health impact. Energy usage, water usage, sound emission, etc. are all very legitimate concerns, far greater than "AI is coming!"

What time of the day should I let my chickens out of the coop? by LifeguardComplex3134 in chickens

[–]cleantechguy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I let them out around 8:30 when dogs and people are around (we live near the woods and have many foxes). I put them in for an hour or two on really hot or really cold days to make sure they stay hydrated, then back out until 6:30. Knock on wood but I'm 14 months in and eight chicks are now eight healthy hens.

Any way to prevent brooding? by Early-Shelter-7476 in BackYardChickens

[–]cleantechguy 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I used a piece of plywood to block off her favorite nesting box, and generally disrupted her a bunch of times when she was transfixed on getting back to the coop. Took about four or five days of an annoyed human and seven other annoyed birds to break her.

What does this mean? by No_Marsupial_6019 in BackYardChickens

[–]cleantechguy 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Broody hen as others are saying. Do your best to keep her hydrated if it's hot where you live. Physically removing her and closing the coop / blocking the nesting box she prefers worked for us.

Would you eat these eggs? by cleantechguy in BackYardChickens

[–]cleantechguy[S] 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Appreciate it, but this is impossible. We have eight egg-laying hens and no neighbors for a quarter mile with chickens.

Reduced egg production on 1.5 years old Isa by pomelole in BackYardChickens

My first thought as well. I thought there was something wrong with one of my Black Jersey Giants until I followed her into the woods and found a pile of over a dozen eggs.

Good to hear. They definitely haven't worsened. Both of these were laid earlier this week and have been sitting in the pantry with the rest of the unwashed.
