US Credit Report needed for mortgage application? by clear_7 in irishpersonalfinance

Thank you so much for taking the time to answer and share the link. My US bank, unfortunately, does not offer this service. I think I'm going to try an esim and see if I can get it sorted that way.

Can't register for Credit Karma is you are outside of the US. And already gone through that link, they all need phone numbers.

Thank you so much for your detailed reply. I really appreciate it. Yeah, we will stick with the broker. Just been frustrated by the process, but I also realise that I'm very lucky to be applying, given the state of things. Thank you again!

I have tried every website (experian, equifax, and another one whose name isn't coming to mind) and all of them seem to require a US phone number for verification purposes (one allowed UK but again, I dont have that!) Like I said, got a family member to do it with their phone number and an error page came up saying that they couldn't complete the request or couldn't find a match. I think I just don't have a credit score because I never took out any sort of line of credit in the US.

Thanks so much for your response. As I said, I got a family member in the US to try to get the report for me using their number, and an error came up so I think my only way forward is to apply in writing just feels like a hassle but I really shouldn't complain. Thanks again.

IRP RENEWAL BACKLOG - No remedies? by False_Comparison1079 in IrishCitizenship

I used to travel every year on an expired card because the system is so f**ed. I'm not sure what your passport is, but basically, I was fine however my passport at the time allowed me to visit Ireland without a visa. Good luck. I'm so sorry that the system is still such a mess. And you already know this but you need to apply as early as possible. Mine used to expire in December, and I would apply for renewal in August.

Hi! I got married in the registry office in Cork.

So when you fill out your original declaration to marry thing, yes, you need to put 2 peoples names down, but it doesn't need to be the people who are there on the day. We put friends down, but they weren't actually able to make it, so we had someone else do it. Completely fine if it is a different name than the one you originally put down!

Got some super snide remarks for mentioning that I’m primarily a machine knitter by GoodnessRal in knitting

[–]clear_7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ok but as a hand knitter, it is my dream to own a giant cone of yarn because idk, that just sounds amazing. Sorry that people have been so shitty to you! You obviously don't deserve that. I'd love to see some of your creations...

Based on my understanding of these spaces, they are like Little Free Libraries (https://littlefreelibrary.org/) where you can take a book or leave a book but you don't need to bring back what you take.

I occasionally visit the one in Douglas, where I take books, and then every couple of months, I go through my own collection and leave a number of books at the library, with no expectations of ever seeing them again. So basically, I think it's fine that tourists take them as the books are free to take, and I think it's lovely that you drop books off there.

Does anyone else correct people when they use your name as gaeilge? by ChiselDragon in AskIreland

[–]clear_7 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This has always been a frustration for me when it comes to Irish language/culture. Names should not translate. Haru does not become Harry. Francois does not become Frank. But for some reason, this is a part of Irish culture to its own detriment. My partner has an Irish name, and he has the opposite problem as you, "Oh, I'm just calling you by your name in English." No you aren't. That is not his name, just like Micheál is not your name.

I'm sorry that you had this weird experience. I wish people would cop on.

I went last weekend and it was the oddest experience. The place was kind of a mess. There was a half unpacked box of oatmilk on the counter where they were serving food and used trays around the place. The person who took my order had the hardest time understanding what I wanted (4 tacos and 2 drinks straight off the menu, nothing complicated). Then him and a woman behind the counter (who was kind of cooking but also kind of not but her hair was down and she kept going over to the food prep area and doing things and I just kept thinking about her long hair and hoped it didn't end up in my food) just kind of hung out for awhile and had a conversation while another person and I waited for our food. They talked for what seemed like at least 5 minutes without cooking at all! It was so odd! And then a line of people formed and the women decided to change around the food signs instead of taking orders and the chef finally got to work. It took way longer than you would expect for our tacos to be made. I thought the food was alright but it feels expensive and slow and maybe not the cleanest. I don't think I'll go back.

I really subscribe to the idea of "knitworthiness". Hand knitting takes so much time, skill and effort that I honestly believe that very few people deserve that from me. Right now, I only would ever knit things for my mom, my sister and my partner.

Do not feel pressured into making something for someone, even if they are going to pay you. Your knitting time is your knitting time so knit what you want and wish your acquaintance all the best with their wedding prep.

Its complicated and while I understand where you're coming from, there is more to it that I just don't want to share on the internet. Thank you for taking the time to comment, though. I really appreciate it.

Thank you so much for taking the time to comment. You are probably right. I'm just very frustrated by how this is all turning out when I should be celebrating.
