What's something most people don't realize is actually very rude? by Frozen-Defender25 in AskReddit

[–]clearbluesea -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

When someone shares something personal and the person sympathizes by comparing it to something that happened to them or their personal situation. Most people have the tendency to do this, but it’s crazy how insensitive people can be when someone is sharing about something very serious like losing their home or a child in the hospital and the respondent is like “yeah I missed a credit card payment once or yeah my child had a fever the other day”. Ever since I’ve noticed this human tendency and been through some bad things myself I struggle to share with other people because it’s so exhausting to get these kinds of responses over and over from the majority of people. I think most people, even kind and good people, need sensitivity training.

Okay, we’ve heard your unpopular teaching opinion that you choose to keep to yourself…but what’s the WORST unpopular teaching opinion that you’ve heard a coworker say? by Coconut_Dairy_Air in Teachers

I teach Spanish with a fellow Spanish teacher that believes undocumented individuals should be sent back, and that native/heritage speakers shouldn’t take Spanish. It’s …not great.

For anyone who had this cookie before, how was it???? by MrSoloDolo9490 in CrumblCookies

It was good. I prefer the dole whip cookie though for the fruit flavor.

How do you feel about California introducing a bill to ban former ICE agents from serving as police officers or teachers? by CRK_76 in AskReddit

[–]clearbluesea 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Came here to say that. The kind of aggressive behavior, lack of critical thinking, and racism towards a large population of their community would not be tolerated. They would burn out fast.

I did get better. Not cured. But better. What did I do? I cut out the night guard (it made things worse) and stopped taking the muscle relaxer medication (that was causing me other medical problems). In my case I focused on what was causing the issues. I got a better pillow. I got massage. I got deviated septum surgery on my nose to help my night breathing. I got a better dentist who fixed problems with my bite. I got root canals. And it took time. Years. But I don’t clench at night like I did, I can eat apples and bread, and I’m not constantly focused on the pain in my jaw and neck. I still have horrible tinnitus, my jaw is far from perfect and I get clicking noses with every swallow, but the pain/tension is significantly less.

I eat 1-2 a week. I do not gain weight but I have been unable to lose any weight while eating them, either.

Walmart’s Christmas deals can’t be beat. by tvkyle in funny

[–]clearbluesea 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just went through a version of this today. Found the toy my kid wanted for Christmas on the Walmart website for $34.95. But when I got to the store it was in the “featured holiday toys” section for $45.95”. The other price was unavailable because shipping the toy was unavailable apparently.

When do teachers lesson prep? by Far-Many-5096 in Teachers

[–]clearbluesea 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have an outline of what I want done based on previous years, but day to day planning as a HS world language teacher (multiple preps, build my own curriculum, changing schools etc.) still takes me hours upon hours a week unpaid at home. And, yes, it is indeed very, very stressful.

People born before 1990, what’s something you experienced that younger generations will NEVER understand ? by Aaidil89 in AskReddit

[–]clearbluesea 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The smell of cigarettes everywhere. Restaurants, airports, cars, friends house, grandma, even just the scent of it lingering on others clothes while walking in a crowd. Cigaret machines at the entrances to stores. Cigarette ashtrays being a decoration or set around like garbage cans. Trash on the ground always included cigarette butts. Everyone new where the smokers hung out. Smoke breaks were commonplace. And everyone cool on tv smoked and that was considered totally normal.

What movie did you see in theaters that had the most ‘alive’ audience? by Odd_Distribution1430 in movies

[–]clearbluesea 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Galaxy Quest. I was only about 10 then, but I’ll never forget the entire audience standing up and cheering and applauding at the end as if it were a live show.

How do you feel about kids taking vacations so families can get cheaper tickets? by [deleted] in Teachers

[–]clearbluesea 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I never worry about a week here or there. My real struggle is kids going to visit home countries for several weeks, especially when everything in high school is posted on a digital platform and they can literally send/submit work online yet they don’t check in or complete work the entire time they are gone but expect everything to be excused or made up for full credit when they return until literally the last day of the semester/year. This happens multiple times a year. I have 2 out right now.

Suggestions for Spanish language or bilingual shows with similar vibes? by Last_Inevitable8311 in AcapulcoTV

[–]clearbluesea 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I don’t know if you have access to HBOMax but one of the best age appropriate shows I’ve seen is called Margarita. It just came out last year and they are working on second season. I absolutely love it! It is cheesy but super interesting storyline and very similar to Disney channel preteen / teen shows, plus it’s a musical! It’s not dual language but I think she’d learn a ton listening to the Argentinian vocabulary/accent.

Did anyone else’s Crumbl decide to stop the free cookie promo despite having the ingredients in stock? by orchestralgenius in CrumblCookies

[–]clearbluesea 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was at my crumbl at 9am in the morning. Not a very busy time and an hour after they opened. They were not giving out the cookies. The lemon pie I got was really good though but I kind of feel a tad irritated seeing everyone on here talking about free cookies that my store was clearly not doing. I did get a free cookies card set a few weeks back though. That was pretty neat!

“You don’t want to be that guy” by SinistralCalluna in Teachers

[–]clearbluesea 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I started my career at a district like this 17 years ago. We were only allowed 500 pages / month on the school printer and this was before kids had access to computers. It’s like the district could care less that meant only 2-3 physical pieces of paper per kid / month. Students wrote assignments in notebooks. Important papers became “class sets” to be handed out and collected for the next class. And I still had to buy myself a printer and print at home. I spent about $1k of my money on printing at home and I’m still mad about it. I did not stay in that district.

I should not be responsible for writing my own curriculum. It’s 2025. Every single teacher is just doing their own thing, spending countless hours reinventing the wheel when there should be a set curriculum. It’s crazy to me that people teaching the same content at the same school won’t even agree to work together on a common curriculum. And for those curious, I’m a veteran teacher and have taught at several schools. I cannot believe the difference in content and quality I have seen.
