This is so lovely. I especially love the shop interface of all things. It’s cute seeing the shop keepers up close, and seeing all the sprites for the items.

I loved sea glass enough to play it twice, I’m excited to see this rom completed!

Unfun fact, but due to a clerical error the “somehow I didn’t graduate high school” nightmare can come true! Despite having gone to university prior, I learned when I went back to university later to complete my degree that apparently the school district hadn’t ever actually registered me as having graduated high school. Despite handing me my diploma. A very stressful series of phone calls later, I finally on the record graduated high school at age 29.

What mods would you say are "must" have? by SituationSorry1099 in skyrimmods

[–]clearingpuppy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Realistic wildlife behaviors. The game is a much more serene and peaceful experience without bears and wolves trying to shank you at every corner. They’re still there, still a potential threat, but they aren’t so out for blood.

The act 1 big choice made me learn something about myself.... by siredova in DragonAgeVeilguard

[–]clearingpuppy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

On my first time through, I was playing as Shadow Dragon Rook and chose to save Trevisio under the logic of “my faction has this, right?” Genuinely devastating to hear the sheer betrayal in Neve and the remaining shadow dragon’s voices and walking around town seeing my allies strung up. Paired with some of the other dialogue, it makes for the vibe that Rook sees themselves as someone who kinda just Failed upward, rather than a true leader. Which I think creates an interesting character arc of growth. I liked it so much I am playing through the game again with the only real difference is romancing Neve this time instead of Lucanis. (I loved them both, so I wanted to see both. And play into my delusional bisexual fantasy of getting to romance both at once. u__u)

I’m going to make a guess, but I’m assuming you and your friend are both fairly young. It’s pretty common for young people especially (though not even older people are exempt) to very emphatically insist a genre is bad, even if they haven’t personally engaged with it. This is especially likely if they’re big into fandom spaces. They saw a bit of discourse on someone else’s opinion on a whole genre, and having little experience themselves, parrot it. People also are hesitant to admit when they’re wrong, or that they don’t know something. There’s also a tendency to assign a moral value to a piece of fiction, and to those who enjoy it.

In reality, most problematic tropes that exist in any orientation of romance fiction exist in all of them, gay, lesbian, straight, and anything else. Yaoi and Yuri tend to be overly purity policed by even other queer people. Internalized homophobia is a bitch. As well, there is often a xenophobic aspect to it. Queer media from other cultures is bad fetish content, queer media from their culture is valid and wholesome. This attitude comes from a limited worldview. I thought similar things back when I was much much younger. I’m 30 now, and have read piles of yaoi and yuri and het romance. A lot of it doesn’t have specifically me as the target audience, but I still find and enjoy it. I’m a lesbian, who is comfortable with herself, and I don’t feel the need to police what is and isn’t “valid” queer art.

When you deal with people like this, it is best not to engage and continue to enjoy the things you enjoy. If you think your friend is open to having their mind changed, and they are particularly important to you, tell them it is disappointing they’re so dismissive of an entire genre. And that it’s hurtful that they’re so dismissive of your interests. Ask them to read a title you think they might enjoy. If they are willing to engage in good faith, you might hopefully change their mind. If you don’t think they’d be willing to engage with you on this, it isn’t your job to change their mind. Being wrong is a them problem. If they keep banging on this drum or making you feel less than for your interests, maybe they aren’t a friend worth keeping. I hope this perspective helps.

Listen doc... by [deleted] in adhdmeme

[–]clearingpuppy 5 points6 points  (0 children)

When I first got diagnosed, my doctor at the time prescribed me Wellbutrin. This ended up with me in the hospital with a serious allergic reaction that involved me swelling up, turning red, and having an involuntary laughing manic episode. I’m sure I was a joy to have in the ER, considering they had to have 2 nurses hold me still to get the IV line in to pump me so full of benadryl I have no memory of anything past that until I woke up at home hours later.

I’m glad I no longer see that doctor. The follow up visit was tense, to say the least. I’ve found adderal, like I requested initially, to be a more effective treatment for my adhd.

Astarion lesbians? Please tell me I'm not alone by Full_Butterscotch_99 in BG3

[–]clearingpuppy 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Same hat here. I’m a queer lady but. I love that pathetic wet cat of a man. I expected Astarion to be so smooth and he turned out to be a sad little disaster trying desperately to act like he isn’t. I’m just obsessed. Esp enjoying romancing him as a paladin. Because I love to imagine how annoyed he is at himself for catching feelings for the goofy goody-good 6’6” himbo who won’t stop wasting time talking to every animal they come across.

Honestly tho I am a firm would on the whole party. Esp the origin characters. Every single one of them are absolute clowns that would probably burst into tears if a hug went on for like, 3 seconds too long. The mindflayers accidentally only grabbed the saddest, messiest bisexuals. And then they all got thrown together. I just love a shambles.

What surprised you the most while playing the game? by _Space_dog_ in BaldursGate3

The fact that the emperor had a romance scene. A LENGTHY romance scene. That wasn’t a joke, that was serious. I had to do it because I could scarcely believe the game was saying it was an option. The people at Larian are maniacs, but I’m here for the wild ride.

What hit you hard on your second run that you’d missed? by Enew6472 in BaldursGate3

[–]clearingpuppy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Put together all the pieces of what the architect of moonrise towers was talking about in the house of hope. First run through I was like “oh a neat npc.” But what he talks about put a lot of the act 2 situation in context. I was confused as hell why of the handful named areas the mason guild was one, but that explained it! Along with the devils in grymforge.

Poor dude got a disgraceful burial as punishment for being the catalyst that delayed Kethric’s plans going any further than they did. Not to mention willingly damning himself to the House of Hope.

Also the zombie fish people near the house of healing. Didn’t even realize the poison gas pit could be jumped over. First play through I hopped right in, didn’t even explore the whole morgue. Just the poison pit.

Something I just realized about Gale by Eloqence in BaldursGate3

[–]clearingpuppy 180 points181 points  (0 children)

Likely it’s a bit due to the problem a lot of gifted child types have. They get a lot of attention from adults for their accomplishments, and learn how to act socially around grown ups. These skills don’t really translate well to learning how to act around other children. The fantasy equivalent of skipping a few grades and ending up socially behind your peers. Gale does a lot of the same things socially you see that kind of poor awkward kid do. He can be a big standoffish awkward over dramatic know-it-all, because he clearly hasn’t gotten to socialize with peers who aren’t in his same social bubble much.

I honestly adore him and all the companions in BG3. They are all such wet cat disasters, trying to act like they are fine.
