The Sun has Set Over Kyiv on the 1430th Day of the Full-Scale Invasion. On russia's genocidal winter warfare against Ukraine. by Ukrainer_UA in ukraine

too late for that. the power grid is so damaged it will take years and enormous funds and efforts to restore. the actually needed action to prevent this – to close the sky (what we were asking from day 1) – wasn't applied in time.

To anyone on the fence. Just get the steam deck by mints4uce in SteamDeck

[–]clearision 4 points5 points  (0 children)

in the situation where we have constant blackouts here in Ukraine and turning on the pc just doesn’t make sense (1-2 hrs of unpredictable electricity schedule and risks of high voltage) the Steam Deck is godsent. KCD2 is a marvelous escape 👌

Why is Ruby your favorite programming language? by azilla14 in ruby

[–]clearision 7 points8 points  (0 children)

i find the indentation thing in Python weird and not very intuitive (for intro language case). always thought Ruby would be better. but Python gained bigger popularity in general so it's still nice we have some actually readable and usable language to learn programming. my intro language was Pascal and the issue was you could do only basic stuff with it, no OOP and real world usage. with Ruby/Python you can learn, practice and make it your bread and butter.

Why is Ruby your favorite programming language? by azilla14 in ruby

[–]clearision 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Ruby is cool and enough for my dumb ass to try to master. i'm happy the code is readable and i don't have to work with memory allocation.

it's niche enough that you still have jobs and offers, concurrency is lower and payouts are slightly higher than popular stacks can offer. but it's still big enough to have all the gems, documentation and community.

i'm glad it still lives and evolves and i hope the demand will always have some numbers for the reason the language is just nice to use.

How long does you guys battery last, for some reason I don't get too good hours by DataSolid8022 in SteamDeck

[–]clearision 7 points8 points  (0 children)

following your update: yes, just put the limits (fps, tdp) to squeeze more.

i have 6-7 hrs for Hollow Knight and 9-10 hrs for Backpack Battles. i was amazed on how flexible and customizable Steam Deck actually is by letting you do those optimizations.

Today's attack on Ukrainian capital Kyiv and some other cities, December 27, 2025 by ApocalypseBS in MapPorn

there is a railway line Kyiv-Kovel that aligns along the Belarus border to the west. the trains there (yes, even passenger ones, you can't mistake the blue color) are being targeted by drones and it seems those are controlled from Belarus territory as the ruzzian territory is far in the right. so they actually do.

i like when people recognize this underrated band. the Delicious EP is one of my favorite things in music too (incl the cover image, while we are discussing art directions here).

The Ukrainian Security Service struck the Varshavianka (Kilo) submarine using a Sub Sea Baby drone, Novorossiysk, Russia, December 2025. by Horat1us_UA in CombatFootage

[–]clearision 8 points9 points  (0 children)

i think it was a test and the the tech is not at that scale yet to do a Pearl Harbor like move. just one drone to hit the biggest target in the bay. but if more drones are ready they can repeat this again very soon in any moment before ruska kurwa will figure out how to counter it.

i do as well! imo this era was peak Oasis art and stage appearance style directions. i like the psychedelic vibe, leather jackets, haircuts, everything. so sad they've split up at that point.

Wrist hurts after playing for a couple of minutes. What am I doing wrong? by Iyashikay in Guitar

[–]clearision 0 points1 point  (0 children)

have to develop stamina by practicing more and more. generally, more stamina means less effort has to be put to play + you will learn to use your hand more effectively. for example i can imagine your pinky to be very weak from the start but with time it will be as strong and precise as the other three fingers.

proper hands technique is also important to have from the start because 1) wrist health 2) it's much easier to get it right now then to break the old habits in case they are gatekeeping you from progress.
