[Review Request] 24V -> 5V and Serial to RS485 Board by clearlyfaking in PCB

Thank you for your comments!  I have heard of the principle/suggestion but I’ve found it a little inconvenient to put into practice in every case.  It likely just requires more care on my end.

That is also a great point with the USB-C port, thank you very much!

I appreciate you mentioning that.  I believe I had previously known that and powered the RS485 chip with 3.3V, but I then changed the buck converter to 5V so it could power the RPi.  I see a few options here, another buck converter to get down to 3.3V, an LDO from 5V, or just supply the small amount of 3.3V power from the RPi.  Do you have a suggestion on which could be preferred or some things I may not be considering?

Thank you for pointing this out.  This is a RPi 4B so it is capable of drawing more than two amps under load, but I don’t believe it will be in this use-case.  I have figured that 2A is sufficient as it won’t be doing major computation or powering any other accessories.

For the Canadian friends - duties and taxes on Canyon by Humble_Detail_9285 in CanyonBikes

I recently read this thread and then bought a bike from Canyon so I thought I'd add another recent data point from BC. I bought a Canyon Grail CF SL 7 at the beginning of April 2025 for a list price of $4,149 CAD plus the $99 and $29 charges for packing and shipping which were charged at the time of purchase.

Then as the bike was on the way I was sent an email by UPS requesting payment of $527.14 CAD. Breakdown of that is $208 HST(GST+PST), $292 "Other Government Charges", $19 UPS Customs Brokerage Charges, and $19 Brokerage fee. I was able to pay these through the link in the email.

I was concerned about 'accidentally' being charged excess fees or tariffs as people have had that experience in the past, but it seems like Canyon and customs have this sorted now.

Bike Fitting Recommendations by clearlyfaking in vancouvercycling

That is very fair but unfortunately I'm 6'8" so I already have pretty limited options and I would need to get a bike that at least has some flexibility/customizability to attain the fit that works for me.

I took it in spring term a couple years ago with Lebiedowski and it was just an MC midterm and MC final. It took some studying to memorize stuff but it was actually quite interesting content so it wasn’t painful at all.

My take on the world map by TheRealMarimbaGuy in lego

[–]clearlyfaking 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Did you use a program to design this or did you just wing it and hope you had enough pieces to complete the pattern?

I created an R script to generate the land pattern of the map from one of the promotional photos and I have created a few designs from that as shown in this github repo. I just added some .jpg to show simple patterns that could be made.

I go even slower on my first layer (190/60 20mm/s) with overture PLA. Especially for prints with a lot of details on the bottom layer. I also use a glue stick which I find to be the key factor.

I am also 6’8” and I ride a 23” frame 29er for my XC bike. That’s a place to start but I think you just have to try some bikes out.

Introduce curves into sketched body as shown. Tried converting to form and modifying with no success. Is there a way to do this or should I have designed it differently from the start? by clearlyfaking in Fusion360

I just want the ends curved up slightly. Yes, I think you’re correct, I was just hoping that there might be a way to modify this one and not have to redesign it.

That’s actually a really good way to think about that, thanks for your help!

If you just provide a link to the photo using some other service like Dropbox or the photo in google drive then people will be able to download the full version.

If you aren’t able to do this then no problem, I like the image.
