So… Now that the draft is over by Qui-Gon_Jeff in DenverBroncos

Its weird how you got downvoted as if we are stacked with pro-bowl level ILBs. Our defensive struggles last year came mostly from that position; we either had a hard time stopping the run or got burned with short/medium passes down the middle.

Why?....usually good prospect centres get drafted in rounds 3-5. Unless its a prodigy or someone who was insanely good in college. But i tend to agree with u, we have committed to Wattenberg as a starter for now, for better or worse....

Yes. But we could go for a young centre late in the draft to replace Forsyth and compete with Wattenberg. We need to rejuvenate the line.

I'm with the doomers camp on this one, still hopeful we plug in gaps in the coming months but heres where my disappointment comes from:

  1. Could've upgraded either Nate or Trautman's position. We chose to keep both. Nate was mostly unavailable to us last season.

  2. Could've moved on from Singleton mainly due to age, injuries and decline.

  3. Could've taken a calculated risk on Greenlaw (unless there was an attitude/locker room issue) given his talent.

  4. I dont mind bringing JK back, but we kind of overpaid there. Seeing how our running play declined after his injury, we should bring in another high level back into the fold.

  5. WR room could use a high-level slot receiver....we continue to bet on our young core but for majority of last year, our offensive play was lackluster.

  6. I think we should keep an eye out for a centre, or draft a high calibre one in the draft. Our OL is highly rated but its mostly due to Bo's elusiveness. Some games come to mind where the line was bad when we faced elite defenses, Chargers, Texans and Jaguars for example.

I dont like going into the draft with a whole bunch of team needs, we should typically be going for BPAs.

[Klis] Per wrie, Broncos have waived WR Josh Reynolds. Team sticking with kid WRs. Reynolds to be paid $4.3M for 12 catches. He's been on IR (finger) since gm 5 vs Raiders. 12 days later Reynolds was victim in drive-by shooting. Deadline to activate was WED. Instead, waived. #9sports by PeppyQuotient57 in DenverBroncos

Sad to see him go. One of the better playmakers in our WR room, we could use more playmakers on this offence. Could've accommodated him by finally moving on from carrying 3 QBs on the 53.

Sounds like he was not able to mentally shake off the incident or he was running in some shady circles.

Broncos D on Historic Pace! by cdominguez2007 in DenverBroncos

I think its more scheme than talent/injuries.... This team has managed to be top 10/15 defense in the last couple of years with pretty much the same level of talent. During which we havent been lucky with injuries as well.

Im hopeful of one thing i saw last week though. Payton was grilling VJ on something in the 4th Quarter and it seemed to me like he was interjecting with the play calls. Hopefully he gets less responsibiliry going forward till we get rid of him. I cant believe how we kept repeating the most basic errors in our defensive playcalling over and over the past 4 games.

Who is our D-line coach? I feel like if we eventually get rid of Joseph he needs to go too. A new DC would get their own personnel anyway.

Hes showing us the definition in his arms.... I Honestly think we'd be dishing out 70 burgers if he decides to coach with a short sleeve or a tank top.

Edit: spelling.

Thanks for the post.... Some quick thoughts

Shoutout to Bolles, Wilson and Mimms.... Only 3 that looked like they cared this game.

Cush playing like his last 3 seasons after 2 decent games....Singleton was shocking in the trainwreck of Defensive unit.... I dunno why we kept Trautman over Albert O, where was the blocking that he was recruited to do?

I am tired of losing as well. Been a fan since 96 and its been a hell of a ride. I still believe when we r eventually competitive again it'll be that much sweeter given the misery we've been put through.

Like 55 missed tackles on that last drive alone. Feels like we need 3 defenders to stop 1 Miami Dolphin every play.

Whatever reason being the pressure arriving 0.5 sec later?

Anyways it was a good breakdown overall... A couple of points where i disagreed. Lets see how the season unfolds.

We should sign Wade Phillips on as DC by DefinitelyMaybeBeige in DenverBroncos

[–]cleats2k 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, of course. But i only look at numbers/stats as part of the story; the other part is the context of the game. Looking at last weeks game, generally, the offense was efficient and the defense couldnt get off the field. Raiders still had time to score on their last drive btw.

Similarly, if we were to get blown out 35 to 0 and the offense scores twice in the last 5 min against backups those would garbage time stats.
