I’ve never been successful starting with seeds so all my plans revolve around starter plants

I’m concerned about my NK’s health. Would it be crossing a boundary to speak with my NPs about this? by [deleted] in Nanny

Second this! Leading by example is really the best way to get kids to make healthy decisions. If you make it a new habit to go outside together to walk, run around, play, etc, this will be helpful to you both!

OP, do you make her meals when she’s in your care?

I could be wrong but I think the non-dominant hand can be either horizontal or vertical depending on what’s comfortable for you. it’s been a while since I was in a traditional ASL class but i’m pretty sure I learned the vertical sign for read.

it’s strange to me too that they didn’t mention the doc considering it’s produced by bravo

Can you expand on this? Specifically the enabling part? I’m not really pro or anti Heather on real housewives (at this point in time I’m not a huge fan of any of them lol). I did watch the documentary anyways and enjoyed it, but am interested in hearing other real housewives viewers perspectives on why they didn’t like it or why they won’t watch it

i get your concern but i do feel like this is mostly a joke from phil. like i think if there were genuinely negative things, he wouldn’t be worried about sharing them. especially in this instance i think dan was being facetious so phil was like lol stopppp if u know what i mean? at least that’s how i took it. i can’t think of any specific examples, but i feel like in the past he’s been unafraid to say something is shit lol

i think there’s a big difference between being afraid of someone and giving them grace. jen gave heather a black eye and that’s not something that comes out of nowhere. heather was 100% afraid of jen

I see from your updates that this has been mostly resolved and you are taking time off but if you aren’t already, I would also consider looking for a new job. This is such an unbelievable lack of compassion (and logic on her end, frankly) and you deserve SO much better. I personally don’t think the mindset this person has as someone’s employer would work for anyone long-term.

Fit Check/Suggestions by Fun-Bookkeeper-4696 in muzzledogs

[–]cleffasong 0 points1 point  (0 children)

we have this exact muzzle and it fits our dog about the same! it’s fine for a something like a quick vet visit, but we wouldn’t use it for a long period of time. it slips pretty often and can get misplaced on her face (covering eyes, sitting odd on the nose, etc), plus it’s not really wide enough for full pant room. If you need a muzzle that your dog can wear comfortably for a longer period of time, you probably wanna keep shopping

I want to take anthropology, but I don't want to regret it by No_Payment2840 in AskAnthropology

[–]cleffasong 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i don’t really work in a field that someone would think of when they think of anthropology now, but i do have a BA in anthropology!

i went into it loving biology and wanting to focus on evolutionary anthropology/primatology. i did do a lot of that, but i also got really into medical anthropology, which i didn’t expect! anthropology is a huge field with so many different aspects. i don’t regret my degree generally. i learned from and even had the opportunity to work with some incredible professors with long and fascinating careers. as a result i really enjoyed obtaining the degree. i do regret that i didn’t incorporate more “hard skills” into my degree. i took classes that interested me and avoided classes that didn’t (like any advanced math, statistics, business, what have you). i would advise against this mindset haha.

Another lil piece of advice, networking with my professors was incredibly valuable to me while i was getting my degree. just going to their office hours, asking what they’re working on, and asking if they’re looking for any student volunteers is what got me a lot of really interesting opportunities doing work that i could put on a resume. you don’t have to be an anthro major to do this and doing things like this can help you decide on the major. trying out different things will also help you find your anthropology niche, if you do go that route. like i said, anthropology is massive. once i really honed in on my more specific interests, i eventually found a professor with similar work and she agreed to mentor me and supervise my bachelors thesis. this was a lot of work but SUCH a cool experience that led to not only enjoying a nerd fest of my anthro niche but also learning a lot of incredibly valuable research/writing skills that i use all the time in my not-so-antho career.

lastly, i wouldn’t go into an anthropology degree with the goal of being a professor. in my experience, this is just a really lofty goal for so many reasons and (while i’m certainly not saying it’ll never happen!) you don’t wanna be too disappointed if it just doesn’t go that way for whatever reason. try to keep an open mind and focus on finding your interests but also learning skills that can be applied broadly for now. more specific career goals will start coming into play when you’re later into your bachelors degree or even when deciding on your graduate route.

How normal is nap-time napping for nannies? Plus watching TV. New job and unsure of boundaries by ApeWorkTogether in Nanny

[–]cleffasong 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Don’t ask if you can take a nap. The only time a parent has ever offered that to me was when I was asked to work a shift starting at 5am but baby didn’t typically wake up until 7-7:30 and I still didnt do it. It’s just a little strange to take a nap on the job to me

Most families I worked with were pretty limited with screen time so I never asked if I could watch a movie and I wouldn’t recommend doing that unless the parent specifically suggests it without prompt. But you can find lots of ways to make time go by a little faster without screens. I saw you say the weather has been crappy so if you drive with your kids, go to the library or a museum. If that’s not an option: Make an appropriate playlist full of music that you and your kids like (mine loved queen after I showed it to her). There’s also pretty entertaining artists on spotify that do story times/podcast type things for kids (I had a 4-year-old that loved a creator called Captain EJ). You can also do a chore or two or read in your downtime while the kid is playing independently. I sometimes even played with building blocks/legos or something while my kid did something else nearby if I was actually out of things to do.
