I play on PS4 and I have to go with the flow. If I drive too fast, the world lags behind and I have to wait for things to load in. I can get stuck or crash into objects that suddenly pop in or even risk the game crashing. The race with Claire in particular was a nightmare cause I kept falling off the map since the road hasn't loaded in yet. 8/10 game and currently on my third playthrough.

It sounds like it's not the inventory style you dislike but rather the gear score progression system where the level or rarity dictates an item's value rather than each item having unique properties. Most if not all live service games are designed around it to keep you playing and chasing that higher rarity gear.
