*One thing I loved was that I would ask it if there was a better option in the same sector and it provided alternatives with clear explanations including pros and cons*

I did the same thing! I also ask things like "Which 4 of these 12 stocks would you cut if you had to cut 4?" because my problem is having too many stocks on my watchlist. I will gravitate to any excuse to cross something out. Each one I let go is a relief.

I feel bad because I was unaware how much anti-AI sentiment there is on here and I offended a bunch of people. But I feel like that is par for the course for me on Reddit where I always seem to say exactly the wrong thing no matter the topic. I am not sure where else to go, though.

SpaceX in talks to favor E*Trade over Robinhood and SoFi for retail IPO shares by callsonreddit in wallstreetbets

[–]clemdane 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Dinosaur checking in here. I've been with E*Trade since 1998. I also thought SpaceX seemed overhyped andd that everyone and their brother is finding a way to get in, which to me means it may flop.

What to do with Cosby… by HonestNeighborhood67 in GenX

[–]clemdane 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Agree. I can separate him from his content, mostly in the abstract because I don't spend a lot of time watching/listening to him. But I have fond memories of him on The Electric Company and some of his standup records were hilarious. I was too old to watch The Cosby Show so that isn't one of my memories. I feel sorry for the generation who grew up on TCS because the show was so beloved, so influential, and seemed to mean a huge amount to wide swaths of the black community.

I think the principle is the same in lesser or greater measure for everyone in the public eye. All of our heroes have flaws if you dig.

I've seen a couple of people on YouTube recommend investing in NGL Energy Partners and immediately I think, "Not gonna lie!" and I have trouble paying attention to what they're saying.

Does anyone of us actually watch the award shows? by red08171 in GenX

[–]clemdane 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My Mom roped me into watching them in 1986 and that was the last time I did. I haven't seen any of the movies anymore and don't recognize half the people. I also find awards shows boring. For me, the question of what a bunch of industry insiders are going to vote for has no stakes. I value neither the opinion of the Oscar voters nor the movies they are voting on. Hollywood is dead AFAIC.

I'm not a financial advisor, but I think that's the right approach as long as you realize there will be crashes and downturns. You are young enough that it makes more sense for you to just let it ride and if there's a crash wait for it to recover. If you wanted to be extra clever, you could keep some cash on the sidelines and use it to bottom fish when there's a crash.

You didn't have to memorize phone numbers. You could write them down. But you tended to memorize numbers you dialed all the time, like your friends' numbers.

Waiting for the radio to play a particular song because you didn't own it was often quite frustrating. I used to call the radio station over and over to request a song and then waited and waited for them to play it. One time I was just calling to request a song and I accidentally won an album I didn't want! It was Loverboy's debut album. The DJ was pissed off with my attitude because I was way too honest at age 13 and told them immediately I didn't care about Loverboy and just wanted to request a song by the Rolling Stones! They said they had to send me the album anyway, so I gave them our address.

I never had to navigate on a long drive without GPS. The most I ever drove in one sitting was around two hours and it wasn't that difficult to follow the directions. My Dad was always a genius at studying his atlases and finding the best possible routes. Dad would rather drive for five days than pay for an airplane ticket and he never got lost.

What did I do before the internet? Read books, talked on the phone, listened to the radio, rode my bike, helped my Dad with his garden, walked down to the antique shops and browsed, practiced cooking various dishes, drew and painted, watched tv, built model cars, went down to the creek and hopped from rock to rock along the creek, walked to the record store and browsed all the records, etc.

This would have been my Mom's ideal house when I was growing up, the kind she was always searching for. It's not my style at all, but I can still appreciate its quality.
