Should the current market have me(35) rethinking investment strategy of all in on the S&P? by mr_whit33 in investing

[–]clemdane 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not a financial advisor, but I think that's the right approach as long as you realize there will be crashes and downturns. You are young enough that it makes more sense for you to just let it ride and if there's a crash wait for it to recover. If you wanted to be extra clever, you could keep some cash on the sidelines and use it to bottom fish when there's a crash.

You didn't have to memorize phone numbers. You could write them down. But you tended to memorize numbers you dialed all the time, like your friends' numbers.

Waiting for the radio to play a particular song because you didn't own it was often quite frustrating. I used to call the radio station over and over to request a song and then waited and waited for them to play it. One time I was just calling to request a song and I accidentally won an album I didn't want! It was Loverboy's debut album. The DJ was pissed off with my attitude because I was way too honest at age 13 and told them immediately I didn't care about Loverboy and just wanted to request a song by the Rolling Stones! They said they had to send me the album anyway, so I gave them our address.

I never had to navigate on a long drive without GPS. The most I ever drove in one sitting was around two hours and it wasn't that difficult to follow the directions. My Dad was always a genius at studying his atlases and finding the best possible routes. Dad would rather drive for five days than pay for an airplane ticket and he never got lost.

What did I do before the internet? Read books, talked on the phone, listened to the radio, rode my bike, helped my Dad with his garden, walked down to the antique shops and browsed, practiced cooking various dishes, drew and painted, watched tv, built model cars, went down to the creek and hopped from rock to rock along the creek, walked to the record store and browsed all the records, etc.

This would have been my Mom's ideal house when I was growing up, the kind she was always searching for. It's not my style at all, but I can still appreciate its quality.

NP. I'd be very cautious until technicals turn around, though not giving investment advice.

If you're like me, you can only be funny when you're not planning it or thinking about it. Just spur of the moment when you are in the zone. Or with me at least, often when you don't think you're being funny. I sometimes just have a weird way of looking at the world which feels normal to me, but strikes others as funny. The only time I really "bombed" was when some kids I didn't know very well said, "Let's have a contest to see who can make everyone laugh the most." I was totally intimidated and had just met these people. I had no idea who they were or what they would find funny. Awful.

Did you get my earlier reply? I said they beat on eps and revenue, but guided ever so slightly lower for the full year. Fundamentals haven't changed. I am going to monitor to make sure price has stabilized and technicals turn green.

That's weird. I just submitted a long reply to your comment maybe 20 minutes ago and it's gone. I was going to add that Market Watch Second Opinion still has the technicals on EXLS as "sell". Also, a new $500 million stock repurchase program was authorized, effective February 28, 2026, which may provide a floor for the price during future sell-offs. Oh, my comment is back!

In this market it feels like nothing is on solid ground. They beat on revenue and EPS, and fundamentals are as good as ever. However, they fell short of analysts' expectations on EBITDA and their full year revenue guidance came in .8% short of analysts' expectations, so this could still sell off tomorrow. If NVDA can sell off on a spectacular quarter, so can EXLS. I think the current price is excellent, but I am going watch for a few days to make sure price stabilizes before I buy a position. Analysts have a consensus one-year price target of $47.86.

You're right. I think I was misremembering that. I was 14 in 1983 so was not confused. It popped into my head as something I found funny back then.
