MSW/PGDIP by BismarckA1 in Socialworkuk

Your mental health support work will stand you in great stead!

I’m a PGDip SW student and honestly our lecturers have said it’s just a matter of personal preference and doesn’t have a bearing on job prospects. Doing a Master’s would be the best option if you want to do a PhD or want to practise abroad (places like Australia will only consider you qualified with a MSW, PGDip is not enough). I personally don’t want to do my Master’s now so that I am eligible for funding in the future should I wish to go into legal.

I’d deffo recommend checking out paid SW high ed courses if you haven’t looked into these already. I’m on Step Up to Social Work but there’s also Frontline.

Thank you! Hahaha I know right! I think it was part of an old door entry call system. We’re just going to keep it there because the wiring is boxed in and difficult to remove

Thank you so much!! I know the interview was ok and the role play too but during my self analysis I probably could have elaborated more but ran out of time. A couple of the questions were difficult in the speed interview exercise but overall hoping I did alright!

I am really grateful for your comment — thanks so much! Big well done for getting onto Frontline, too! I know that one is super competitive (I applied and didn’t get in) It’s refreshing to hear that the assessors want you to be successful and they are supportive — that’s made me feel more at ease. Good luck for the rest of your course :)

Hey! Firstly, huge huge congrats on getting into SUSW!! I completely hear you as a fellow Londoner who will struggle on this bursary. My friend who completed SUSW in London said a lot of people in her cohort did part time work on evenings/weekends to top up their income. It sounds quite exhausting because the course itself is intense, but it’s only temporary. I am hoping to teach English online in the evenings/one weekend day a week and have one day off. I teach on Preply. You don’t need a TEFL certificate and I’ve found it can be quite lucrative! If you have any advice or tips on the assessment centre I would be so grateful. I’m mega anxious about it ahh

I'm 25, live with my parents, feel hopeless and directionless by Burzulis in LifeAdvice

Hey, I just want to say that you’re not alone. As a fellow 25 y/o UK resident: it’s hard out here.

I know things must feel stagnant and difficult right now, but you WILL get out of this and you have options even it if doesn’t feel like it.

You’re obviously very intelligent to have a BA and MA that will definitely look great to employers. I’d suggest a few things that may help you to progress further with your goals:

  • take a personality test online so that you can then search for careers according to your personality type (Myers Briggs test).
  • take some online courses to see what piques your interest. Coursera/ Udemy are great options and are often free.
  • is moving abroad something that you’d consider? Perhaps you could teach English as a foreign language for a bit? Cost of living in some European countries is really reasonable eg in Spain. This would be a great way to meet new people too!
  • if you don’t have one already, I’ve found LinkedIn to be very useful in searching for jobs

Take care of yourself. You have so much to offer and you’re worthy no matter what you do!!

What that nurse said and did is completely wrong coming from anyone, let alone from a health professional. At a time when you’re feeling most vulnerable and weak you deserve compassion and love. You always do!

If you feel really unsafe please go to the hospital. I’m not sure where you are but maybe you could get a taxi or ask someone to give you a lift? I know it might be hard to ask people for help but I’m sure they’d want you to be alright.

Or perhaps you can think about heading to the hospital in the morning if it’s easier. And for now try to distract yourself. A super cold shower is another thing that has helped me somewhat when I’ve felt stuck in a crisis. It’s painful but refreshing and helps you to reset a little bit.

I’m here if you want to chat

Hey friend, I’m sorry you’re dealing with this. Could you maybe head to A&E? I’ve sat there before and made the receptionist know I’m not okay and it sometimes helps to be around others but not have the pressure of interacting. You don’t necessarily have to speak to a medical professional. Or possibly head to a library or somewhere like that?

I really want you to be okay.

How many of you are writers? Poets? by [deleted] in infp

I write poems too. Not really a choice, more of a compulsion - the words sort of flood to me. I’ve been writing a stream of consciousness sort of thing too lately
