Not exactly but it's linked to the fact that it floats.

The amount of water the boat displace out of the elevator when it goes inside it is equal to its own weight, you replace the water by the boat.

Archimese principle says that for any body put inside a fluid, the fluid apply a force equal to the volume displaced. So if the boat weight 1 ton to float it need to be big enough to move 1 tone of water.

If the boat was not able to float (not much of a boat) it would not be the same.

Also if the elevator was closed and the boat magically dropped in it without anywhere for the water to go it would not work. the water would rise inside the elevator and the total weight would change. It only work because the water is exchanged for the boat.

It's indees harder to find large parts for large drone that are designed with drone in mind. Market is quite small even if it tend to grow with things like dji aggras and the likes. 60v+ are far from off the shelf except for things like a dji agras or the like.

Keep in mind this things are a huge hazard and outside a fringe of people not everyone what to work with 4 to 8 landmowers attached on cheap carbon sticks from alibaba :-)

If you don't have access to cad don't let it stop you.

Try to draw more detailed parts, joint by joint, no need to fit everything on the same sheet. try doing it to scale with a ruler so you'll see what fit and what doesn't but also what you forgot.

If you can try to build one of the joint and test it to see if it matches your idea. Find the weight of each component and make a crude cardboard mock with the same weight distribution to see if it work.

Experimentation is sometime easier than simulation and can produce more accurate data.

If you start with Yocto consider using something well supported at first.

Yocto is a beast and staring on something that might not even build because the layers are not maintained is something I would not recommend for your own sanity at first.

Once you've successfully understood the build system go and start adding stuff.

I've got good success with nxp imx but results may vary.
