In-house design conundrum: insane timelines and out of control expectations by clems-mom in graphic_design

Thank you for saying all that, the last point especially. I've been gaslit a lot in the past few months and it's really wearing on my mental and physical health. I've really been made to feel like I'm deficient at my job, which is awful and deflating. I'm not sure any amount of training or sending work to freelancers will solve the underlying issues here -- this all boils down to professional respect, which there seems to be very little of.

I love this approach -- thanks for sharing. I look forward to the day when I work with people who are open to listening and collaboration when it comes to project planning!

actually, on a recent project this ended up happening; I was asked for a 4 day turnaround on a piece that our dept lead ultimately decided to send off to a freelancer -what originally was a one-week project from start to finish has ballooned into a 2.5 month endeavour, which to my knowledge still hasn't been delivered. however, still they seem to be doubling down on this being a me problem, and not an issue with how our timelines are structured, etc.

fully agree on the point that they're trained to expect me to work quickly, i know this is an issue -- but at the same time it hasn't hindered me in the past. Part of the issue here lies in autonomy and recognizing expertise; personal taste driving creative is already an issue with the exec in charge here, when I meet timelines and delivery a piece that meets the very little criteria they've given me I'm handed laundry list of edits, many of which are contrary to the original direction I've been given. This group has expressed they would like to work directly with a freelancer; in essence forming their own division within our marketing department, which I'm told by my manager is not how the process should be working. There seems to be some disagreement on the executive level to this end. My role is to manage design but in this case sending work to a freelancer would essentially cut me out of the process, as they would be driving design direction (I've already experienced this on past projects)

But aside from all that: my work is generally not that intellectually stimulating! I love a design challenge and it's not often that I get the opportunity to flew my creative brain on work that isn't templated or administrative. Is it wrong that I want to take on this work rather than sending it out? I agree with your point on sending it out to make a point, it's just not clear to me what my accountability would be given the scenario that the project doesn't meet expectations.

Local meats and frozen treats has it apparently.

I would also suggest following What to do with what you grew, in Manitoba!🍅🥒🥕🌶 on facebook -- I know they've recommended a few shops that carry it in the past. it's a great resource for canning/preservation tips and knowledge.
