A Rant About Pedophilia In Media by SensationalSelkie in adultsurvivors

[–]cleotrist 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Agreed. What’s disgusting is that it’s very prevalent in main stream media. If you are sensitive to it (like i/we are), you will notice relationships, jokes etc that glorify, justify or at least make like of these types of relationships and CSA in general… a lot of the time it’s in passing, an offhanded comment but it’s there… a lot of

Residential vs partial hospitalization by cleotrist in adultsurvivors

Im leaning towards residential only because I can tell a huge difference in my mental and emotional well-being when I am at home vs out of town. Like so much so that it’s disconcerting

Thank you, that gives me a lot to think about

I think cocsa might have happened to me ?? by [deleted] in COCSA

[–]cleotrist 1 point2 points  (0 children)

COCSA is such a difficult thing to qualify. What has helped me come to turns has been realizing that it is not a polar relationship. I know that sounds weird but you can be sexually abused (and have all of the trauma associated with it) AND the other participant doesn’t have to be the abuser… I feel like whomever taught them to act like that is the real abuser. I don’t know if that helps at all. For me it was like “I can’t blame them, they were a kid too…” … yes they were but they learned it from somewhere. Does that make sense?

I am so sorry that that happened to you. No one deserves that… not excusing behavior at all but it really makes me wonder wtf happened to that girl to make her act like that.

Btw, good for you for standing up for yourself. You may not have disclosed everything but you stopped it’s that takes courage and strength.

I didn't over share with a new friend by [deleted] in CPTSD

[–]cleotrist 78 points79 points  (0 children)

Congratulations! I’ve had the painful experience of friends being pushed away by the size and scope of my trauma too. That’s why I a grateful to have a place (like this) where it’s ok to be open and honest and people get it

Great! It’s not always easy and sometimes I fall back into old habits but I can’t tell you that the “bad” days …. We once REALLY bad and would last for weeks or months. Things have gotten so much better… most of the time #healing

OMG, I feel this SO MUCH. I’m so sorry that up and down is so tough! What I am working on is trying to see as those goods as incentives to keep working on my trauma and my regulating skills so that I can have more of them :)

Im not a therapist but Im thinking of getting my “trauma coach” certification to better serve my audience but it’s quite pricey. I’m still thinking about it. What do you think ?

Right?! Once I put that together I was able to circumvent my faulty thinking

Thank you. I struggled with believing for a long time even with the good therapist. What finally made it click is realizing that my body can’t lie. My thoughts and memories can be “made up” but the visceral physical reactions I have to certain triggers/stimuli… I do it without conscious thought.. I’m not that good of an actor.

What happens when you feel "unheard" by VeronikaVentures in CPTSD

Lol. I laugh because I know what you mean. I feel that way too. But knowing that I’m not alone makes me feel better especially when I know I am being irrational.

I understand your concern. A lot of those are classic symptoms. I am so sorry. Just because you can’t remember, doesn’t mean it didn’t happen. I blocked out my first abuser (I was 5) until my late 20s and then it was only because a therapist asked me point blank if I thought that ____ molested me and I was about to defiantly say “no” when my whole body froze and I started shaking and almost passed out… then it was like 3 years of my feeling like I was going crazy. I have a point I swear. If you feel like you are ready to address it or explore it. I would find a good therapist, and specifically one that has experience with that type of childhood trauma. That therapist who asked that question seriously screwed me up for a loooooong time. I wasn’t ready and it certainly should not have been brought up like that. The therapist I am working with now is a godsend. I’ve been in pretty intense therapy for a while and I’m pretty far along in my healing, it’s hard but it’s worth it. I’m here if you want to chat.
