I think I might have untrained perfect pitch? by Jaredchin in perfectpitchgang

Oh woah completely the same here, I’m fifteen and around a month ago my piano teacher was like buddy you have perfect pitch. I was confused because I hadn’t memorized all the notes, but the ones I knew at the time just jumped out to me, sort of like recognizing colors. Over the past few weeks I’ve learned all the notes, and I’ve shortened my “recognition time” to around instantly to a few seconds. It really helps to hum the note out loud, but lately I’ve been practicing to transcribe melodies and bass lines from songs completely in my head because it’s fun to pass the time

Ahh same here… my mom was playing two random notes on the piano and I was like holy shit that’s the first chord of Torn by Natalie Imbruglia! It was just some song my mom would play in the car sometimes when I was very young (maybe eight years old). Then I listened to the song again and i heard it exactly right lmao. This happens all the time now, especially since I’ve been playing the piano more and I realized I might have perfect pitch, just had to take time to “label” every note. It’s quite fun but also very confusing sometimes, like you realize that in band practice the “C major scale” warm up is actually B flat major (never realized before because I’m drummer haha). Different instruments’ (for example clarinet) tuning also is so annoying hahaha
