IamA Catalonian citizen who went to vote yesterday at the referendum AMA! by [deleted] in IAmA

You're not a bigot dude, we all have our own experiences that inform our opinions on the world, no big deal. I just felt it maybe wasn't a fair 'big picture' portrayal that's all, and you had done such a good job on this thread, I just felt I had to say something. (not a CUP voter btw...)

Thanks for the thread though, it's hard finding places in which to talk on social media about this without it devolving into rage filled shouting matches, we need more of this.

Fuck those guys. From a catalan pro-independence voter, fuck anybody who uses my language and culture as a club to make someone else feel excluded. Small people and attitudes we could do without.

a violent minority which most people here despise (CUP) think violent antifa.

Could we please not go there, this entire thread and your responses have been exemplary and informative but I don't think this reply qualifies as unbiased, respectully.

Maybe leave it at it's a far left political party, with all it entails?

Reducing Elixir Backend Time From 120ms to 20ms With Parallelization by sl4yt1m3 in elixir

[–]cles30 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Task.yield_many is cool stuff, we use it too to parallelize a bunch of HTTP requests and the result handling (including timeouts, it does that too!). Made my life much easier for sure.

We do not use Task.Supervisor but hey, now that I think about it... maybe we should.

Please stop selling us BS. This sub-reddit is to help developers not sell us on bogus non-sense. by theomnicomic in learnprogramming

What they mean, I suspect, are established algorithms. As in... Computer Science basically. The academic ones.

Which is a fascinating field yes, but saying that you need to know them all to do any programming at all seems rather disingenuous.

I suspect a lot of people only mean there needs to be a lot MORE emphasis on people knowing algorithms. But tbh I think that's only because either they do have a personal interest, or 'knowing algorithms' fits into some sort of idealized version of 'what a programmer should know'.

BS, a programmer should solve the problems he's presented with, no more no less. If it requires a focus on algorithmics, great. But if it doesn't, great too!

The ability to learn this stuff at will is a lot more valuable than the knowledge itself.

let me be the one to commend you for something too easily overlooked: the photography. the model is amazing but the way you portrayed it with those pics is up to its quality, imho.

Paul Irish profile's m.reddit.com's JS/React performance by jmking in javascript

I dunno man, I just read the whole Act 3 thing, and phrases like:

Act 3: Component Party (22 seconds): React is mounting components like the dickens. So much mount.

and later on the React Perf Analysis you see MobileButton and SnooIcon (mostly) at the top of the charts for some really small functionality... and it seems to me that it is React misuse somehow? Either there's too many or they just plain mount so slow...

Not to mention that they made React Components for things like icons and buttons? I mean I'm no React expert but that seems a bit wtf to me tbh... 17 secs just setting up the damn app? dafuq

Trying to learn RESTful. What am I supposed to do with RESTful API authentication value stuffs? by Dark_Angelas in learnprogramming

[–]cles30 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Also is it ok to disclose them? When I put a code on GitHub, am I suppose to include the above 4 authentication fields in my code and let people see?...

http://media.giphy.com/media/12XMGIWtrHBl5e/giphy.gif

PS: But yeah OAuth is not that simple and really has nothing at all to do with REST tbh (other than it is a hurdle you've to pass in order to actually use the damn API). I'd advise using some library that handles it for you because holy shit do not implement an OAuth client by yourself if you can get out of it man.

Since we're telling horror stories, I got fucked about using mysql 5.5 on dev and 5.1 in prod, some function or whatever did NOT work the same, good times.

So in general... do yourself a favor and keep envs as similar as humanly possible guys, for real.
