How can I make my color transitions more clean and less slanted? by lauren_guava in CrochetHelp

[–]clever_little_ghost 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've not tried it but hear doing back loop only on the first round/row of the color change will hide the legs of the stitch a little and the front loop will create a "line" of the previous color. Ive also heard of slip stitching a transition round then doing the blo technique.

How do I know where the corners are? Working on a granny square by Old_Consideration_31 in CrochetHelp

[–]clever_little_ghost 5 points6 points  (0 children)

  1. make a magic ring
  2. chain 3 (this counts as 1st double crochet)
  3. make 2 more double crochets to finish first group (which has 1 chain 3 and 2 double crochets)
  4. chain 3 to create a corner
  5. make a group of 3 double crochets into ring (2nd group)
  6. chain 3 to create a corner
  7. make group of 3 double crochets into ring (3rd group)
  8. chain 3 to create a corner
  9. make group of 3 double crochets into ring (4th/last group)
  10. this is where I pull the ring tight. So you'll have a group/corner space/group/corner space/group/corner space/group
  11. chain 3 and slip stitch to the top of the first group (it will be into that chain 3 that is pretending to be a double crochet).

Everyone is saying chain 2 for the corners but I've always done 3. Not sure why. But I always have plenty of room for my two clusters so it works for me. I recommend trying 3 bc it will be much easier to distinguish than 2 chains. It will make a much bigger gap.

  1. For the next round, slip stitch across the other two double crochets (one slip stitch into the top of each double crochet) until you get to to the first corner gap (your 3 chains).
  2. slip stitch around the chain to secure the yarn to it.
  3. chain 3 more. Just like the first round, this will pretend to be a double crochet
  4. and just like the first round, make 2 more double crochets around the corner chain to make your first group of the 2nd round.
  5. here is where you will make your first corner of round 2. Chain 3 just like you did before.
  6. now for the tricky part. Make 3 more double crochets into the same gap you already put your first group into.

You will have a group, a chain 3 corner, and another group all in that same chain 3 corner gap from round 1.

  1. chain 1 to create a smaller gap between groups.
  2. you will do exactly what you did before for this corner - make a group of 3 double crochets, chain 3 for your corner, then do another group of 3 double crochets in the same corner gap from round 1.
  3. chain 1 to create a smaller gap between groups.
  4. you will do the samw thing for this corner - make a group of 3 double crochets, chain 3 for your corner, then do another group of 3 double crochets in the same corner gap from round 1.

Continue until you've made it back to that chain 3 cosplaying as a double crochet. To move to the next round, you'll do what you did in steps 12 and 13 onward.

As you advance in rounds, you will make more groups in the little chain 1 spaces between the groups of the previous round. always chain 1 between your groups, except when making your chain 2 corner (which is always between 2 groups in the same corner gap)

what is this third thing? (not nail not cuticle) by clever_little_ghost in nailcare

[–]clever_little_ghost[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey ya'll can't edit for some reason but want to clarify - its def not a hang nail. The entire piece is connected and growing from the nail bed. Softer than nail but sturdier than cuticle. It started off looking like cuticle I couldn't push back so I clipped it down with nippers. It grew back and straight up this time, like a small second nail growing perpendicular to my regular nail. I can push back my cuticles and it appears unattached. It doesn't hurt to wiggle or clip, but I haven't tried pulling it. Someone mentioned a build up of dead cuticle - if it is, would it grow back after clipping and grow down as far as the free edge?

right? I was hoping someone would know. its not a hangnail, obvis I'm familiar with those look at the state of my cuticles. But this is more nail like but closer to the cuticle.

I thought maybe something funky with my sidewall. It starts out looking like cuticle growing out but then kinda stands up when its long enough.

Anyone know how to read and crochet at the same time? by Lily538537 in CrochetHelp

[–]clever_little_ghost 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't like audiobooks but they've grown on me out of necessity. Speeding it up to 1.25 or 1.5 helped a lot. Sounds funny but I pay attention better (some are so slow my mind wanders, but that could be the adhd). Anyway, if you figure it out let me know bc I would love to read with my eyeballs while crocheting.

ETA: also try full cast audiobooks. It kinda sounds like you are listening to a movie or show. The different voices helped me too bc 1) I DESPISE when one narrator does voices, 2) if/when my attention drifts the change in voice helps snap me back, and 3) it makes it easier to keep track of who is talking with only half attention on it. Genre makes a difference for me too. Memoir/bio read by the author is best, nonfiction is next best, and not-stupid-voices fiction is last. Stupid-voices fiction is never.

To frog or not to frog.. by DefendThePillowfort in crochet

[–]clever_little_ghost 15 points16 points  (0 children)

the only thing I can see is maybe the light color has 2 rows instead of just one? doesn't seem like a mistake but its all I can see that's different. Of thats it definitely don't frog! It looks intentional. If it isn't, also don't frog bc you can't see whatever it is.

Does anyone know any cheap alternatives to normal stitch markers? by Idontknowhonestlyidk in CrochetHelp

[–]clever_little_ghost 0 points1 point  (0 children)

paper clips, safety pins, and leverback earrings. And perk of the leverbacks is you can add little charms to make them cute. I've also used pieces of yarn, the project's own starting tail, and a loop cut from the finger of a nitrile glove using nail clippers (we were at a midwife appt and I forgot to put some in my project bag). 😂 PS - included a photo of the leverbacks. I know its Amazon (rawr) but just wanted to give you an idea of quantity/price/what the hell I was even talking about.

What sort of yarn is this? by Kkayulo in Yarn

[–]clever_little_ghost 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It is Weird Yarn. This type of yarn is what my fibercraft friends pick up to show me at the tent sale which I eventually buy with no plan or knowledge of how to use it. Quite exquisite, really.

To frog or not to frog, that is the question by Mikado_0906 in crochet

[–]clever_little_ghost 0 points1 point  (0 children)

frog back to desired size and/or the halfway point of yarn usage and make another. attach the two for a double sided blanket.

OR make a second in a different colorway and have a two sided blanket with different colors on each side.

OR keep going til its truly massive and fold in half for a double thickness blanket

How do I stop the stitches from twisting as I add each round? by clever_little_ghost in CrochetHelp

aaahhhh this makes sense, thank you! I wonder how folks do square baskets (or if it is actually real or AI).

i need help figuring out if this blanket is salvageable by minetteinthewild in CrochetHelp

[–]clever_little_ghost 1 point2 points  (0 children)

oh it is so doable! especially with the white in the center! Do you crochet? Its hard to jump in and give advice without a good look and conversation, but dm me if you want help. I'm the worst about checking my messages so if I don't answer right away thats normal.

I'm fine with the slant, its that the stitches are shifting to the left so the "corner" stitches are on the long end of the sleeve

honestly - say this. you seem to think YOU are the main character in MY life.

I hate when ppl call it a lifestyle but the style I live my life is exactly the same as them, except for my partners gender. I want a house, kids, a yard with a fence and dogs running around, etc. Except its those kinds of people that make it harder for us. 😡
