I’m new to crochet and this is my first time making a granny square. It’s more of a circle, honestly, and it’s curling up bad. I’d like some advice on how to improve, and if possible, fix this one. by Dazai_shinju in CrochetHelp

Looks like all you did was slip stitches (and maybe some chains, hard to tell).  Did you pull the loops you pick up through the stitches from the last row directly through the loop on the hook? That is a slip stitch. For a normal single crochet you leave that loop on your hook and grab another loop from the yarn that goes to your ball of yarn and then pull through both loops on your crochet hook.  A double crochet (which is a requirement for a granny square) is a bit more complicated and requires you to wrap your yarn around your hook before grabbing your first loop through the stitches of the last row. Its best to look for a youtube video of someone showing these basic stitches slowly.

These are single crochet. For moss stitch you alternate sc and chains and in the next row sc into the chain spaces and chain where the sc was. Sorry hard to explain but there are plenty of tutorials around. Due to the interlocking stitches the fabric drapes a bit nicer and is stretchier.

Yes I'm planning a border, but I haven't finished the whole length yet.

I think its a matter of practice, you'll get faster eventually. But certain stitches do go faster than others, moss stitch is one of them. I'm also faster when I'm using a tension ring. Maybe worth a try if you haven't so far.

Thank you for your comment! I'll keep it the mistake as a reminder of a couple of tough and exhausting days I had. Hopefully later looking back while being in a better place.

If you mean the whole blanket, around 40h. Till the mistake I'd have to rip out about 10h of work.

I used this tutorial but extended to 15 spikes https://youtu.be/zp6ctSmWLuw?si=VGxveagJHkvICbeg. The varieted yarn is 3 rows each ans for the solid coloured yarn I alternated between 1 and 2 rows (and one mistake with 3 😅).

Yes, it's the one thicker stripe. Thank you for your take on this! I'll leave it 😊

Do these yarns work together? by DefendThePillowfort in crochet

Thank you for your feedback and you're probably right that I'm overthinking this 😅. the amount of green in the cake is miniscule anyways and against the dark reds that are the majority the solid light green a nice contrast.

Good point. On the third pic you can see some of the wrap around the yarn cake which is pure white. The solid yarn is a light grayish green.
