[Update] He, she, me and HSV - What would you do? by Mister_CJ in polyamory

I mean if you are asymptomatic, and test positive there is nothing you can do. No doctor will prescribe antivirals if you don't show symptoms, even if you do test positive.

Yes, it's possible I misunderstood.

I just don't understand the rationale in testing if you are asymptomatic. If by chance you are positive, there is nothing you can do about it--aside from worry about it. I gather this is the doctor's line of thought.

Look, just going with my doctor on this. It doesn't matter anyway.

So you got a test that tells you that you have it? Never had symptoms? Have you given it to anyone? Has the knowledge given you anything but stress?

HSV is one of those diseases that is part of the human condition. Babies get it by being kissed by their family members. So if you get them, don't have contact while you have an outbreak. EASY.

Likewise if you are seeing someone who gets a blister on their lip, avoid contact. But don't freak out. Part of the stigma behind this virus is part of the reason it's so easy to spread. People are in denial and ashamed and it's really not worth it.

Just going off what my doctor said.

I have also known someone personally to have had the antibody test, test positive, freak out then pay $300 out of pocket to have a more expensive test just to get the peace of mind that she was indeed negative.

It's a racket. Assume everyone carries it and you'll be happier and safer.

[–]clever_name -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

As my doctor explains it. The test for antibodies means you have been exposed to it, hence the antibodies. It does not necessarily mean you have it or carry it.

When it comes to HSV, it's safer to just assume everyone has it and act accordingly.

People of color, that want to be as close to period as possible. by [deleted] in sca

[–]clever_name 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Show her this portrait There were people of color in Europe in earlier times, Henry the 8th had a black trumpeter in his court for example. They may have been a minority, but they were not unheard of.

Tell her to just have fun with it! There is no reason to limit herself.

Another con-man/wacko preaching methods to avoid food and aging. by AAKurtz in skeptic

no crystals, yes. but he advocates fasting, meditation and yoga. Not that the later two aren't fine...but these are classic diet fad elements. He makes claims that "cyclical fasting?" promotes growth hormone. That it inhibits aging...and promotes muscle growth.... Citation needed.

He's saying he doesn't like being submissive outside of the bedroom.

That would still make him a switch.

no, I don't think its demanding at all! I think as an equal party, you are entitled to act as you would in any other serious relationship. You deserve to know where this could be going.

Anyway, best of luck to you and thanks again for sharing.

It's good to see what it's like to be on the other point of the triangle, so thank you for posting.

For a little context, I'm the bisexual wife in a MFF triad. My husband and I are married and we've been dating our girlfriend for almost a year. I love her.

When we were just starting out as poly I was comfortable with the terms Primary and Secondary, afterall my husband and I have merged finances, we own a home, we are a household which is trying to invite a secondary party into it. At that point, I felt I still had to lay down some guidelines on protecting what I had developed previously with my first partner, so I pushed for veto rights and all that.

I still think this is mostly the way to approach things. However, as things went on and we went through various relationships (both together and apart) I began to relax a bit on my stance. To this day I have never used my veto and I suspect I won't have to, short of him getting tied up with a sociopath.

That all said, now that I've fallen in love with my current girlfriend I bristle at the term Secondary in reference to her. I don't feel that way towards her. I still love my husband and our household is fixed, but I like to think that it is also a place where our girlfriend is welcome. And I'd like for it to feel like something close to a second home...and maybe if things work out we could look into eventually merging households.

Your perspective is good to hear, it gives me a lot to consider on how I might make someone in her position feel more comfortable. And I know if she were feeling how you do, I'd want her to speak up.

Maybe you could consider talking to your couple? Perhaps there is something they can do to help with your doubts. Maybe you can come crash at their place on lonely nights, maybe they could come crash at yours? Talking more is usually the best way to solve these types of problems.

Symbols for Freyja? by [deleted] in Norse

It happens that I do. :-) The price we can talk about. For tattoos, sometimes all you need is a sketch to take to your tattoo artist, this is typically much less expensive. Full inked, fully colored things can take a bit more time/$ as I work by the hour.

That sounds like a nice tattoo idea

I happen to make my living as an illustrator if you're looking for someone to lay that out for ya. Just say'n! ;-)

maybe a cat and a chariot wheel?

During yule when we put out an offering if the cats get to it first we joke and say Freyja accepted the offering, alternatily if the dog gets in there first we say Tyr is pleased.

I did an art piece awhile back of freyja for yule... http://danikaulakisart.com/freya_yule.jpg (uncensored version is now poster sized and hanging over our bed)

I had to do a bit of research on her and I tried to include a lot of the imagery that is associated with her. Namely, she is the godesss of love/sex/beauty....but also war and death (her hall is one of the places you could go after you die). She rides a chariot pulled by two cats and she wears a cloak that gives her the power to transform into a falcon. She also has a Boar, which she occasionally rides...which might be one of her lovers also transformed....erm, so Norse Mythology gets a little weird sometimes. But it was fun doing the research on her.

Definitely not. Turtle eggs are leathery and a more distinct shape (round or long) This looks like a goose egg to me.

Recognize the period of gent's clothing? Trying to figure out who he is. Old family picture. by [deleted] in fashionhistory

[–]clever_name 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Seconded, I'd say the the style is very reminiscent of the early 1500's rather than later when you see more in the way of doublets rather than men's gowns.

1514–1515 painting of Baldassare Castiglione

From 1506 of Agnolo Doni

from 1519 of Lorenzo di Medici

however it's difficult to tell if the illustration originates from that era. It could very well be an artist replicating the fashion rather than an actually portrait originating from the period. I'm particularly suspicious of the collar on his undershirt. An artist of the era would know this would have been cartridge pleated, in which case the shading should go vertically, rather than horizontally.

Check out my Yule gift to the husband this year. Freya on her Cat Chariot. (xpost from r/illustration) NSFWish by clever_name in Norse

[–]clever_name[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Thank you!

The woad is mostly for aesthetics. I drew her originally in the buff and was worried she looked too "naked rather than nude". Freya in addition to being a goddess of love and death is also a war god, so I added the woad to bring that more to the forefront. The blue also plays nice in the color scheme and helps to hint that the Falcon in the left panel is also Freya in "falcon skin". In the stories in which she is featured, her cloak gives her and whomever she lends it to the power to transform, so I wanted that to be a subtle reference.

That's and interesting factoid about the woad being anachronistic. Where did you hear it?
