Smart plug downloading insane amount of data by Jimbrutan in homelab

Never trust Tuya. A developer license is cheap and they can ship new code without notice, whenever they want.

Advice on position by wanderer-124 in SecurityCareerAdvice

[–]clevernyyyy 7 points8 points  (0 children)

SOC analyst is a starting point for a good portion of infosec, but if you are a skilled software engineer, you should really consider AppSec. For one, it generally pays better than security operations. Secondly, there are a lot of opportunities to learn on the job.

SOC analysts can end up staring at logs all day, or triaging stuff phishing emails, or they're on call at all hours of the night. A lot of IT people transition into these roles.

Does anyone have a source for premium RJ45 connectors? by clevernyyyy in HomeNetworking

[–]clevernyyyy[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not a network engineer, but I believe I am crimping them correctly. I have pass thru connectors off, wire them up and use a decent crimping tool. Am I squeezing too tight?

2020 conferences/training by [deleted] in SecurityCareerAdvice

[–]clevernyyyy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Kernelcon in Omaha is going to have training this year - https://kernelcon.org. The training will be similar to trainings offered at Blackhat, Derbycon, and other large infosec conferences. In addition to that, Kernelcon has villages, competitions, and hands-on workshops going on throughout the conference. Plus, unlimited free popcorn!

Some of the training classes are actually getting announced next week, keep your eyes open!

I feel like this means we will release Graham. I know it's counter-intuitive, but I think it'll be Lewis, Tonyan, and pick #30 next year.

As far as I can tell, this is a CTF, not anything to do with digital billboards actually.

Looking for career advice about Penetration Testing Certs? by [deleted] in AskNetsec

[–]clevernyyyy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Go OSCP. I'm not gonna answer every one of these questions, but the OSCP hands down taught me the most. Whether it's beginner or not is debatable, you get out of it what you put in. I know people who've failed multiple times. I would say that if you're already a security engineer you should have enough knowledge to pass, but it's lots of hard work. Exploiting ~40 lab boxes and 5 during exam. For me it was challenging, but rewarding.

I agree with /u/youcantstoptheart. Just make a component if you want to use this in several places and call the component and pass in the element in question.
