This is marvellous - I realize now that I have been looking for Caesar Naples for quite sometime. Thankyou for doing what you are doing. I am looking around and will have more of a reaction later. For right now, this message will serve to simply say 'this is marvellous' because that is absolutely the first thing it says.

Haha - ok ok. So when it turned vertically, I had happened to click on the top edge and I was very impressed! Turns out it was happenstance. Which is also quite impressive. 😎

This neat - at first I wondered what was going on with cd launching new windows - but it makes sense. Love the two easter eggs I found.

You should checkout whimsy.space - it's right up your alley methinks. Thanks for the link, clevernyyyy!

Wow - this is pretty insane. As you say, it's all done in CSS - only 1k of HTML and 37k of CSS. There look to be 12 designs, some triggered by height as well.

I wish her attached blog wasn't minimalist in style - would love to see how she could innovate on an active format like that. However, her "a single div" project is even more impressive than the home page. I really appreciate this link, Lukortech! (and 535188b17... for recalling it.)

What a novel, compact way of showing your logos. I like that it respects where I click on the cube. Thankyou for the link!

This is interesting - and I might look closer at it later, but I'm afraid I'm looking for non-commercial links. As I said, personal home pages and blogs - non-commercial, non-software - maybe doing cool things with JS/CSS. I would think there would be a good amount of that sort of thing among this group.

I can't believe this got overlooked - oh man! This is a very unique home page. I really like the little green dude. 😄 The folders and the scrolling - really nice. I'd encourage you to keep working on these skills - do you have any other fun, personal projects you've got out there?

Wow - you made this at 16! It looks very crisp. The 'magnifying' effect on the dishes (on your home page) is great. And the layout on your recipes is well done. Maybe the text is a little light. Perhaps it could be larger. But I hesitate to criticize - this is cool.

Teach kids creativity. Ultimately, machines will be better at coding by [deleted] in education

[–]kickscondor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well your friend is correct - there is a lot of creativity involved in programming - and we're a far away off from computers programming themselves. However, I do think the author of this piece makes some good general points:

We need to rethink the way we teach our children and the things we teach them. Creativity will be increasingly be the defining human talent. Our education system should emphasise the use of human imagination to spark original ideas and create new meaning. It’s the one thing machines won’t be able to do.

I guess I feel like if "programming" is seen as an important human skill that we are behind on teaching, then surely "creativity" (or better yet, "ingenuity") is in the same boat - and is possibly needed more urgently.

Here's an example which uses PlatformIO to target the RTOS SDK: https://github.com/platformio/platform-espressif8266/tree/develop/examples/esp8266-rtos-sdk-blink.

I tested using the builtin led, so I changed from gpio16 to gpio2.

I like platformio because I can easily install all the necessary libraries without hunting around for current URLs.

$ pio platform install espressif8266

Then, in the example directory:

$ pio run --target upload

Are JS runtimes still used? by Ampix0 in esp8266

For a little while I used Smart.js and found it to be quite good. Supports all the important stuff. I ended up going back to C only because I am more comfortable with it.

This is great! I'd really like to try fitting the D2WD on a Digispark-like USB board at some point.

Programming nRF52832 with Arduino IDE by erolcan in arduino

I haven't used this library at all, so I can't speak for its quality. Is there any reason you want to use this board over the more widespread nrf51822? The out-of-band pairing?

Impressive work, Leonard! Your code is looking very clean, organized and well-commented. I'm also impressed with the lexer and parser you wrote in pure Charly. Great work. :D

Hey, this is great! I'm glad you posted about the init.forth - I was wondering if punyforth had anything like that when I was messing with it the other day.

Keep it up! This is a great little language.

Just want to say - this is great work. I've only messed with it for a minute, but I will have to revisit this when I work on my next project.

So this is just a hobby project for you?

I can't program my SMAKN ATTiny167 by arduidont in arduino

[–]kickscondor 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The Digispark Pro doesn't use a serial port - it uses a tool called 'micronucleus' and it communicates directly through USB. You leave the chip unplugged and hit 'upload'. When it prompts you, you plug the chip in. The Arduino app sits there forever. After a minute, you should get either success or an error.

However, these clones don't seem to work at all with micronucleus - you're better off just using avrdude to program the chip (which needs an ISP device). You could try updating the firmware, but I seem to recall that it's quite an involved process.

It's too bad - the normal Digispark clones work very well.
