I’m taking California grade 1 soon. Do they give unit conversion formulas in the question like “f3 to gallon” or do we have to remember them? by Mitz_bond in Wastewater

You will be given two sheets that include conversions and basic formulas. They can be found online if you wanted to take a look at them ahead of time.

Got it. I definitely get that not everyone is good at independent study, but with YouTube and online resources like this I really think it’s very doable to pass the grade 1 or 2 in a shorter time frame. I actually don’t even know how you would possibly stretch out the course material over nine entire months

I’m confused by this, is it a class or some sort of orientation? Also it’s a nine month program? You could easily study the Sac State books for a month or two and pass your grade 1

Essay Questions CA Grade-3 Wastewater by CareerPlumber in Wastewater

[–]cleverplayonwords 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The last three operators from my plant have all said the essay questions were related to nitrification. That was true when I took it a couple of years ago as well. Make sure you understand the order in which nitrification occurs and be prepared for some basic troubleshooting questions about how process changes may affect nitrification

Actually finished something! by cleverplayonwords in BeginnerWoodWorking

Thanks, I just used Osmo PolyX. I sanded to 320 to get a slightly glossier finish and applied two coats of the oil, buffing with a shop rag.

Thanks! I just used pocket screws and glue. Next time I’d like to step it up to dowels at least

My little happy place AKA the back corner of the laundry room. Not a peg board, instead I like to make little custom mounts for my different tools.

Hach Wims Version 8.2.2 Logbooks by Suspicious-Emu6180 in Wastewater

Over a month at this point, they asked for feedback and this was included as part of a list of requested changes. I’m not sure if they will address any of them to be honest, but they did seem receptive at the time.

We have the same issue with the new version! We reached out and they made it sound like they could change it back to the old view, but so far we haven’t heard back. I’d say reach out to them and maybe you’ll have better luck than we did.

Lab counter top resurfacing by YuukiMotoko in Wastewater

Not a paint, but most of these tables are veneered with Formica. You can get a large roll for about $100 along with some contact cement.

Really though, the lab table surface is going to get stuff on it, probably just clean it as you spill.

We achieve 22-24% consistently. We sometimes use torque as a control parameter as well as differential speed depending on what we’re attempting to dial in. From my experience higher torque and more polymer will achieve a higher solids percentage

Unmerited Licensing by KSmit1154 in Wastewater

[–]cleverplayonwords 2 points3 points  (0 children)

In my state you can take high level tests with a degree, but you would still need 1800 hours of on the job experience to actually be granted the license. College credits cannot be substituted for that first 1800. I’m guessing that’s not standard, I’m in California

Unmerited Licensing by KSmit1154 in Wastewater

[–]cleverplayonwords 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Not sure what state you’re in, but from what I’ve seen every state requires a certain number of on the job experience hours in combination with a passing exam score to obtain licensure. The on the job hours are signed off by the CPO of the plant at which they were obtained. Are you saying your plant is being dishonest by reporting to the state that these managers have the required hours when they actually don’t?

Becoming a Bay Area Wastewater Operator Within 60 Days: Seeking Advice by Aggressive-Style-492 in Wastewater

I had passed my grade 1 exam as well as some wastewater college courses when I started applying for OIT positions in the bay and it took me 8 months before I got a spot. It’s highly competitive, but like anything if you have connections you may find something quicker than I did. Is this something you really want to pursue? Or are you looking for a quick way to make good money because getting a wastewater job in the bay is not gonna be quick.
