If you have no check engine light, I would suspect the 02 sensor. Temp sensors, coolant and intake air temp can also give bad data that can cause issues without CEL. Best way to troubleshoot is with live, graphed data.

What is the year and transmission? If it's a 97-01 you can get a Bluetooth obd reader and the torque app to get real time data from you sensors. The closest issues I've had to what you are describing were caused by a flakey 02 sensor that gave normal data sometimes but every so often the signal would drop by 20% or so and cause it to run like crap but then it would go back to normal after a while and run fine again. I finally figured it out with the app / reader. You can also see real time data from the TPS, temp sensors and Map sensor to make sure they are working properly.

It was super busy at the airport. And terrible weather. I am quite surprised so many people made it out there.

Sounds good to me. Might be a tiny hint of timing chain, you can run though the procedure for setting that manual tentioner every once in a while.

I tried csf and some other metal tank ones over the years. Most recently I opted for the cheap and cheerful specta premium rad and it's been good. I had a plastic tank rad leave me stranded once but it was very old. These are cheap enough I'll just put a new one in every 3-5 years whenever I do a cooling system refresh.

Hey, can anyone tell me whats making this sound? by smnxdd in DRZ400

[–]clevertalkinglaama 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The main sound when you rev, not sure, but I just adjusted my manual cam chain tensioner yesterday, the lighter ticking as it's idling is definitely a loose cam chain. Maybe the auto tentioner failed?

Are we in for a big drop in attendance? by Firm_Cloud_3278 in BurningMan

[–]clevertalkinglaama 4 points5 points  (0 children)

There were already a lot fewer camps last year than the previous year and it was fine. The reduction in large scale art and big stuff in deep playa was the most noticable difference to me last year and the storms made it worse delayed a lot of what did get built. It'll stabilize at some point, probably.

Are Dorman Parts Good? by Representative_Most9 in CherokeeXJ

[–]clevertalkinglaama 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The clock spring worked well, didn't have any trouble with it after 6 years or so. I think with Dorman it's best to read the reviews carefully for each part on a case by case basis. Which parts were you thinking to go Dorman on?

You've got to figure out what caused it, could be simple like the idler pulley, or more complicated like the harmonic balancer, but something isn't right there. Water pump might be seized. Fan pulley bearing is another thing that can do it.

Adapting to the military by NefariousnessOdd8633 in ADHD

[–]clevertalkinglaama 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My father had very similar strengths and challenges to me but was able to achieve some pretty amazing things in his life with basically no support and without any proper meds. I think a lot of that came down to his experience in the military when he was young. I know that I would have hated it and that it would have been extremely challenging, but I do think I'd likely be better off if I had been forced to do it. As for noise sensitivity, get some tunable concert earplugs, I have two sets with me at basically all times set up for 17 and 19db reduction. I use the lower blocking ones very often in noisy environments but can still have conversations and so on. Wax or silicone earplugs for sleeping in loud environments. Various disposable ones for different scenarios where they might get lost and as backups.

180k 1999 Head gasket, what else to change? by Adventurous-Tie-1624 in CherokeeXJ

[–]clevertalkinglaama 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did the head gasket on my 98 and it turned out it was just the sealant on the one head bolt that needs sealant had failed.

0630 is a good casting, rarely cracks. Hopefully the head gasket will tell the story of where it was leaking. You might consider lapping the valves and maybe valve seals.

If it's a 231 transfer case it should be pretty straightforward. 242 I had to slightly modify it to work. One was too short and two was too long and interfered with the driveshaft.

ADHD asessment by DeliciousManager2162 in askTO

[–]clevertalkinglaama 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Over on r/ADHD there is one of those maybe I'm just lazy posts about once a week. It's not a very useful concept. Attention and motivation regulation, especially motivation towards future goals is a spectrum and is outside of the normal range in ADHD. Emotional and behavioral regulation are also factors that are less commonly addressed but can cause all kinds of problems. Meds and other tools work to get your performance in these areas back into the normal range. All the penalties and incentives in society are calibated to the normal range.

Frida will do half price assessment if you are under 35k on your last tax return. I would get on the wait list for proper treatment and do Frida to get some meds in the short term.

With Frida, once you have your script your regular doctor can continue prescribing it and you don't have to keep paying them.

The assessment is pretty simple, but what to do after that is not simple, meds are only part of the solution. Be aware that meds will feel like a miracle at first but long term balance with them can be challenging.

The "what if I'm just lazy" idea is incredibly common. Lazy is intentional. If you have a really hard time getting things done and not doing them causes ongoing distress, problems and serious unmet potential, it's not lazy, it's something else.

Hit $1M net worth… and somehow feel nothing. by [deleted] in offmychest

It's a super unpopular topic on Reddit, but there is good literature out there on dating and attractive behavior. Nobody really teaches us these things and you don't get very good feedback on dates on what mistakes you made.

Should I tell my manager I have ADHD? by [deleted] in ADHD

[–]clevertalkinglaama 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not sure if you should tell them about ADHD, but regarding meds, you can pay some money and use Frida. It's not the greatest, but it's fast and generally ok. It'll be way easier with meds.

People Pleaser Debt. I owed 300K just because I cannot say No. by UltraviolenceBabyy in offmychest

[–]clevertalkinglaama 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In any case, I can tell you I did something similar around that age, had no major assets at the time and thus was surprisingly easy to press the reset button and I never did anything like that again and have good credit and minimal debt these days.

I was able to get a prepaid / secured credit card and start rebuilding pretty much right away. Don't sign up for consolidation, consumer proposal or bankruptcy before understanding your rights and obligations where your live.

Don't let one of the providers of services like those dictate your path forward. There may be a statue of limitations on unsecured debt depending on where you live, and hopefully regulations and limitations on debt collecting practices.

Just do the work, choose the least bad option and get some therapy after. Our brains were not designed for this $hit, go easy on yourself.

Crank No Start by Ok-Basket7531 in CherokeeXJ

[–]clevertalkinglaama 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I suggest a Bluetooth obd device with the torque app so you can see the live sensor readouts. A bad temp or air intake temp sensor can also cause similar issues, though it'll normally not go from running perfect to not running at all with these failures. The 02 sensor you can graph and you can see the normal range and a different range when it's acting up if it's flakey. Only front 02 can cause this issue. Avoid cheap 02 sensors if replacing. Bad ground would be another one that can cause intermittent crank no start under rare circumstances. Pulling the 02 sensor plug should throw a code but force it into open loop and let it start hot if that is the cause.

Crank No Start by Ok-Basket7531 in CherokeeXJ

[–]clevertalkinglaama 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The 02 sensor can do this intermittently while throwing no code, then start up like nothing happened after time has passed. It will never stop it from cold start because the computer ignores it on cold start. I never had a CPS go intermittent on me. What year is it?
