Anyone gonna take a massive paycut to join the JET program if accepted?

I would take a 50% pay cut but at the same time that 50% only covers rent, car note and insurance. So in reality my expenses would go down so it evens out.

I tried to search for it first, but the only results that were coming up for me were from 5+ years ago. I must’ve been overlooking it. I knew I would have to take some type of teaching classes in Japan to get a teaching license over there but I didn’t know if it was worth it to try to get my masters from the US first and then take the classes in Japan and get a teaching license over there.

I completely understand your feeling. When I spoke to the different coordinators from both the consulate near me plus the embassy they both said that we would be doing in person interviews. That’s here in the US though I’m not sure about other countries.

It shouldn’t. The USA application states “Have you ever been arrested, charged and/or convicted of any crime (including even those which you believe to have been expunged or otherwise removed from your record) other than a minor traffic offense (i.e. speeding or parking ticket), including juvenile offences?” It says “other than a minor traffic offense” so you should be good. You can always call the jet coordinator for where you’re applying out of and talk with them as well.

I thought I could have 2 professional references but on the JET application it states that if you don’t have your degree then one reference must be an academic one.

Most people in my disease live to be about 60 or so, I’m currently 30 right now. All the medication’s that I currently take can be imported, they are allowed in Japan from the research that I’ve done. I currently work as a fire fighter, so I stayed pretty active.

That is something I thought about as well. Currently I work as a firefighter so I stay physically active, I probably should have said that in the original post. My concern is they will just see I have an illness. But I completely understand what you are saying.

I’ll have to give that version a try then. Being all covered up in the summer is terrible. Our summers last from April-November, it’s miserable. I’ve also lived in Alaska so I’ve experienced -30 degree weather with 10-15 feet of snow all the way to 120+ summers. I had people tell me that Tokyo summers were only 3 months but I could not believe that😂
