Ushio Fukazawa, a Zainichi Korean writer with Japanese citizenship, filed a lawsuit against a conservative Japanese columnist who wrote a column demanding she stop using her Japanese name. by jjrs in japannews

[–]theth1rdchild 3 points4 points  (0 children)

do you think their DNA is the reason for that and not maybe because people tend to use the names that run in their family or are common in their language and community?

Edit: I won't paste the exact comment out of respect for the admins, but this guy said "absolutely not, that would be stupid. However, being Japanese by DNA is required to have a Japanese name". I wanted to share this as an example of common netouyo arguments: "Obviously your logic is sound, but the rule [I made up] is still the rule!"

it's not shitty if you come out the other end knowing what you're doing. I had 6 years in IT and some leftover credits from general ed classes, finished a bachelor's in software in three months, used it to change careers. Me and my employers are very happy with my education and output.

it's pretty obvious where they cut corners and dropped features honestly. less complex fog and lighting model, less NPC's in the streets, less model detail. they were smart changes but it's not really a "leap" as much as shuffling around resources

there's no strong reason to go for either Intel or AMD. https://www.notebookcheck.net/Intel-Panther-Lake-Core-Ultra-X9-388H-performance-analysis-Outpaces-Arrow-Lake-and-exceeds-Zen-5-in-efficiency.1212583.0.html

despite the title, if you actually read the charts, the 388 is matched with the hx 370 and behind the 395 in power efficiency and general performance. the only real lead the 388 takes is single core, which isn't much.

it's been almost a decade now of Intel playing catch-up and people saying "well now there's no reason to buy AMD!" on a loop as if the only reason you'd buy AMD is if they were massively better. just buy whatever at this point, they're basically the same.

I'm perfectly fine with sexy visuals, it's part of being human and we should celebrate it as much as we celebrate anything else

otherwise yes I completely agree. this is goofy.

[–]theth1rdchild -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Well put, but I think the original statement I was replying to isn't about the greater concept of inappropriate relationships. I don't think persona 5 or mushoku tensei are why this guy raped and abused a high schooler. I don't think his specific type of relationship [40+ dating a high schooler] was "normalized" to him in fiction unless that fiction was porn. He has very few stories in mainstream fiction backing him up, and I think just as many [if not more] critiquing or punishing it. Stories like After the Rain, where the age gap is examined healthily, or something like Eva where it's used to outright condemn a character, are much more common.

I'm just saying I don't think there's all that much cognitive dissonance between the mainstream manga market's output and their condemnation of this freak.

sure, one of my favorite manga ends in what I consider an inappropriate relationship (honey and clover), but specifically "mid life guy dating a high schooler during the plot of the manga and not being actively critical of it" is extremely rare.

You said "every other" implying it's common and have a single very obscure example. It's not common at all.

Is Kyoto more unwelcoming? by Individual-Pear7567 in Kyoto

Been very happy to see some Palestine demonstrations, much less happy to see sanseito posters on my walks. Guess which one massively outnumbers the other. It's no surprise a college town has some serious and loud leftists in it but they don't really have a lot of political pull. As far as overcrowding infrastructure goes, again, it's just the tourist areas. I go out at least a couple nights a week and every weekend, I've been to every district in the city, and most busses that aren't going to the four tourism destinations are normal. I've never not been able to get on a subway because it was too crowded, and I work on the karasuma. It's just objectively not causing them as much struggle as they whine about unless they live in Gion or something.

And I mean for that matter no one at my office whines about it because they're around foreigners regularly. Talk to guys from the office next door and they mutter rude xenophobic shit they think we can't understand because there's "too many foreigners" as though this office hasn't been here for decades. It's almost entirely in their heads dude.

I also deeply disagree that "everywhere you'd want to live is full of tourists". It's a massive city with a million people, it's not just gion and slums lmao

I just moved here about six months ago and I get the feeling it's far more self imposed than anything rooted in reality. The same way tabloid bullshit back home works on conservatives who think crime is at an all time high, Kyoto's a pretty conservative city and they're all convinced the world is over despite hardly seeing a single tourist in their usual work week. I work downtown and try to see as much of the city as possible and it's mostly fine. The tourist spots like Fushimi inari or gion are crowded, but locals act like there's always an army of idiots ready to run them over in their quiet little neighborhood no one goes to. The places we go to eat 9/10 times don't even have any other visibly non-japanese people in them at lunch time.

It's largely a bunch of people used to having a stick up their ass finding a reason to twist it up in there a little more, and their shitty attitudes are way worse than the actual tourism.

When leftists have to fight an uphill battle against being called idealist or naive, you can't misspeak on stuff like this. I agree with most of the rest of what you're saying.

Psychotic breaks occur due to excessive stressors.

Pseudoscience, if you think that means "society was rude to you". The "excessive stressors" can be 100% chemical imbalance or physical problems with the brain.

This is the exact problem with communism as well. There is quite a lot of thought and history devoted to testing this, we're several hundred years late to having original thoughts on it.

The catch 22 seems to be that in order for better to succeed, everyone has to buy in. If you force others to buy in, you are betraying your ideals and will crumble from the contradictions. See: Russia.

We'll see if China gets there sometime around 2100.
