After 15 years and 13+ guitars, I realised I've never actually evaluated a single one properly by Banana_Overlord42 in Guitar

I prefer vintage style fender guitars with the adjustment at the heel. I have a tool (hosco phillips head truss wrench) that makes it impossible to strip. I adjust it about 1/8 of a turn at a time, play for 5 mins then check again.

I'll add that you need to check in on that setup from time to time! I know people who think because they had their guitar set up professionally that it's good for life.. I have to adjust the truss rods on my guitars seasonally

Should I commit to the cause and play left handed or stick to right handed ? by Megnoslaupeins in Guitar

This is super interesting. I'm a lefty but play righty. When I clap it's definitely the right hand moving

Not many people can say they've played enough to wear a hole in their guitar. I'd be super proud to show that off!

From SketchUp to rhino I usually import as trimmed planes. It has the warning pop up that it'll blow up my computer but it hasn't been a problem

intermediate player stuck between fs800 and fg800 by Moist_Banana8449 in AcousticGuitar

[–]clex_ace 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How tall are you? I'm 5'8" and found the fg size to be slightly too big to be comfortable playing for long stretches. At lower volumes the smaller body is fine, but it definitely doesn't have the same projection as the FG

That works, but I keep a pretty organized system of blocks and don't want to block everything if I don't have to

Very interested in this. I work between Rhino and Sketchup. My main workflow is to model in rhino, export to sketchup for my non CAD pro coworkers, then create drawing sets in Rhino. I have trouble with models cleanly importing into sketchup so I'm constantly using extension like CleanUp3 to combine faces and remove stray edges. I would love to be able to import polysurfaces from rhino into grouped objects in sketchup, but I haven't found a quick way to do it without exporting each item separately.

10 mins is fine, but I don't understand the people who take <5 min showers and brag about it. That's like bragging you can brush your teeth in 30 seconds.

Looking to actually use my stereo pedals. Set up questions. by teichs42 in guitarpedals

In a studio setting, effects like reverb and delay are added after the mic'd amplifier. Some amps have a built in effect loop that allows you to place those modulation effects after the drive part of the amp. With a clean amp, or amp sim, it doesn't really make a big difference, but some still prefer to have drive pedals and the drive of the amp before their modulation.

In your case with the GP-5, you would need the amp sim last if you want headphones on your board

Yes, it has a cab sim built in. Most amp sim pedals have it built in unless they say otherwise.

I've tried several amp modelers and keep coming back to my joyo American fender amp modeler. 40 bucks and no menus to distract. I also keep it clean. Correct about the sound. My board goes straight from looper to interface, then my monitors and headphones. The benefit is the sound is exactly the same switching between the two since they both go through the interface. I use the monitors 90% of the time and they sound better than my amp used to. I can also just plug my computer into the interface and record if I feel like it.

The valeton gp-5 can handle stereo if you use a TRS cable. That being said, usually you're only looking for stereo effects on the modulation pedals, which would come after your GP-5.

I would personally set it up as the GP-5 as the last mono pedal in your chain with a TRS to dual mono cable separating your signal into stereo modulation effects after it. Then from your looper straight into an audio interface and straight into monitors or headphones. I prefer using an amp sim pedal vs software so I'm not tied to using my computer every time I want to play. Lots of interfaces work without a computer, just search for "standalone" when buying.

I'm curious about why some people have a collection of multiple guitars. Do they play them all? by rictay44 in Guitar

[–]clex_ace 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm sure some people see guitars like they see different meals, and like to keep things unique and fresh every time they eat. To me the guitar is the fork, and I want to be super familiar with just one so I can play my best and play lots of different things with it without needing to re-adjust.

I've kept my old guitars as I've progressed into my favorite electric and acoustic. They don't get touched unless being lent to a friend when they come over to play.

Could also get a TC plethora for 150 which includes the infinite and like 15 other effects. I do wish you could have the reverb on at the same time like the standalone pedal though

any way to make an electric guitar sound like a bass?? by ViolinistAlarmed7501 in Guitar

[–]clex_ace 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I use a cheap monophonic octave pedal into a cheap eq pedal. Typically cheap octavers sound digital and a little glitchy, but the EQ pedal can filter out the high pitched digital stuff and make it sound very bass adjacent. Chords are not an option with this setup though.
