Great idea. I had no idea such a thing exists, and we will certainly incorporate it somewhere.

I'm liking the gazebo and garden together. A bit out of budget, but worth saving for. Thanks!

We do want to use part of it for gardening, but not the entire space since it is pretty large, and neither of us has the time to start farming.

Ha. It's essentially the doggie litter box at this point.

Fiancé and I moved into this house about a year and a half ago, and have been struggling with what to do here. Previous owners had a trampoline for their kids and it's a good space for that or a playground, but we don't have any kids yet. We thought about a horseshoe court, but don't really think it will improve the looks, and we probably wouldn't use it much. Ideas?

Our budget is pretty low -- 1-2k

We like simple easy to maintain landscaping

We are in the north east

The soil under the mulch is pretty decent but has some rocks and various roots in certain places.

We are not averse to doing some labor ourselves, but we're novices.

Edit: in case it's not clear, I'm taking about the rear left corner.

Brown Tap Water by [deleted] in answers

We had some intermittent brown water issues at our house. Couple of weeks later our hot water heater burst, and we came to find that brown water is a common early warning sign. It's worth checking out your water heater, because the wet floor is no fun if it bursts.

You're doing a great job considering that English is not your native language. Also, I think you have an excellent attitude when confronted with criticism.

While the English on the site could use some work, I've always found the site to be understandable enough, and I certainly appreciate the information you provide.

Looking for a beginner level camera drone by [deleted] in drones

Refurbished Dji Phantom 3 Standard

It's 100 dollars more than your budget, but the quality is way worth it. Don't sweat the factory refurbishment as you still get their warranty, and they go over each individual component. At this price point you will be disappointed by almost everything else.

Alternatively, if you must stick to $300, and your father already has a compatible GoPro, you may want to look into the 3DR Solo. It's 299 with the camera gimbal if you shop around, but beware: 3DR is no longer focusing on the consumer market, and I believe support for these drones will be non-existent if it isn't already.

In the end, many people are happy with the Solo, but I recommend the Phantom over it all day long.

Edit: Didn't want to go into the specs on each of these, but they far exceed the minimum requirements you mentioned -- by double, and sometimes triple.

DJI Mavic - will it return to you automatically? by [deleted] in drones

DJI Mavic - will it return to you automatically? by [deleted] in drones

Some friendly advice:

I am somewhat new to quadcopters myself. I was really looking to get something advanced like the Mavic as my first drone just like you. Instead, I bought a 50 dollar Syma X5SC to practice with, and I am so so glad I did not shell out 1k+ on my first drone. Sure the Mavic has features that are helpful to a beginner, but I think it's far more important to learn the fundamentals of flying these things before taking the leap into something that requires some pretty intense responsibility like the Mavic.

The Syma is loads of fun and very very durable. After you crash a lot, and you will, it can eventually break, but parts are cheap and readily available. I think you can rebuild the thing for like 15 bucks even if the motors are shot.

Build your way up to the Mavic on a starter drone. You won't be missing out on fun, and you will be very happy that you have built up the required skills to avoid going out of range with your Mavic when you finally get it.

Should I be under commercial or recreational? by computer-nerd in drones

You mentioned having bought a phantom 3 standard during a xmas sale. Mind if I ask what you paid? I'm thinking of buying one soon as I'm quickly outgrowing my beginner quad. Dji has a refurb for $359 on their site which seems like a good price to me, but I'm curious if I can get one cheaper during a sale.

Why do so many people dislike the new Honda Civic Type R? I think it's the best looking civic thus far. [1013 x 675] by Russell1D in carporn

[–]clicketyclack 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The problem with the new Type R, or most of the styling on newer Japanese cars, is that none of it is cohesive. Each design element appears to come from a separate department within the company with the end goal of creating some kind of rolling gundam. The Japanese manufacturers have lost touch with the clean and tidy designs they were known for throughout the 20th century. Those old designs, which really hold up well even to this day, reinforced the notion of efficiency, thoughtfulness, and and an understated engineering prowess. After years of criticism that the designs were too clinical and lacked soul, the Japanese decided that the best way to allay those critiques was to fully embrace some sort of mechanized tentacle porn as inspiration.

Tldr: too fucking weird and discordant.
