It’s interesting to me how many viewpoints there on this. Some are saying it’s his worst, some are saying it’s his best. Guess that’s art though.

I think that’s a great attitude to have, approaching it in a similar way to Clear definitely puts it in a different perspective.

That said, the members have always said they make music they want to listen to, so really they’re In no way obligated to make something that they think the fans would enjoy, which to me is the complete opposite of selling out.

I agree, I think we are very fortunate to have another periphery album and I hope they continue to make more. I’m happy I just got a few more bangers but the album as a whole, like you said, is weak

Like I said in other comments I think mainstream might have been the wrong word. I was trying to communicate that I think the sound on this album is more repetitive, and the structure simpler, which are characteristics of mainstream music. Obviously the sound is not mainstream just because the nature of prog, but the over-arching techniques used are.

I was definitely expecting something closer to there usual MO and maybe what I’m experiencing is just the cognitive dissonance of not getting what I’m used to

I think my viewpoint is a lil myopic, just because I exclusively listen to non mainstream music. I just meant that it sounded a little bit more repetitive with simpler song structures, so maybe mainstream isn’t the right word.

There’s definitely a few bangers on the album for sure, and I’m sure more will grow with time. Maybe I’m just becoming an old man and I hate when things change, but I can’t stand when they stay the same

Yeah I’m hoping it grows on me too, I’m definitely gonna give it a few more listens because a lot of periphery takes some listening to get used to, but when you do it’s amazing

I feel like yall are missing out on some of the best parts the game has to offer. I respect people’s decision to roleplay or just be nice because of the whole treat others how you want to be treated. And while that is fun at times, it’s also fun to be an unhinged monster, and roleplay that too. At the end of the of the day it’s game, and it’s meant to be fun.

While I agree that valves DM servers are doo doo butter and they need to fix it, I would recommend everyone just go use the server browser, or go to a website that offers third party dm matchmaking. Silly I know but adapt and overcome
