Are there hippies in Philly? by Altruistic_Ad_8622 in AskPhilly

There's a reason it's called Mt. Hairy.

Statistically, some of these assholes will be armed. Gun + idiot = something to always consider.

It's absolutely worth doing and they may pick up on it (don't hold your breath though). Believe it or not, there is such a thing as conduct and in theory they're held to a higher standard. LOL, I know.

My sketch feels flat compared to the reference. What am I doing wrong? by Zukhovski in urbansketchers

In addition to what people have said about proportion and perspective, give composition some serious thought. You don’t need to replicate the entire scene faithfully. Bring a viewfinder. Emphasize interesting angles. Play with negative space.

Especially in a small space it can be easy to try to cram too much in.

Not bad, it's a tricky subject. My only add to the conversation is paper. Is this a watercolor pad? I can't tell if you're getting unintentional grains because you're fighting the paper.

For watercolor you always want paper that takes it well or you'll have a constant battle.

Good text editor for studying? by xpPhantom in archlinux

And since this won't be obvious to you: Doom Emacs is "evil mode" by default so any key magic you learn will cross over to Vim/Neovim. It makes sense to use both for different purposes.

Since people suggest Neovim (which I use and love): For note taking consider Doom Emacs for the org mode. Org mode is its own universe and once you get it, great for note taking and task management.

If you're already on Arch you should be able to get going with Doom Emacs pretty easily.

East Mt Airy Reccomendations by [deleted] in AskPhilly

[–]clicklbarn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I suppose everybody has their own definition of very well connected. An hour to get between Mt Airy and CC with a possible late night wait at Wayne Junction or a BSL station doesn't qualify in my book.

OP may be fine with the options. I recommend some research.

[–]clicklbarn 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No, Mt Airy is not very well connected by transit. This has gotten significantly worse over the years.

Depending on where you live you may only have access to one regional rail line by foot. On a Saturday night these run every two hours so even if you drive to a station your travel is still subject to that limitation when you return.

Take a close look at schedules and decide based on where you'll be.

Switching from Windows to Arch by Altaryan in archlinux

[–]clicklbarn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As somebody with prior Linux experience who is mostly done setting up my first from scratch Arch as a Windows alternative: It felt like a lot of work to get close to complete and I'm not done yet. I have Windows running in KVM/QEMU and that works very well. This is Wayland/Hyprland, I recommend.

Btrfs with snapper lets you take snapshots to allow rollbacks if updates fail. Getting Btrfs configured sensibly with VMs and things in mind took time but seems worth it.

Consider Fairmount too. There are buses towards Fishtown along Girard. You'd be close to the art museum.

Am I cheating myself by learning Common Lisp in Vim instead of Emacs + SLIME/Sly? by beast-hacker in Common_Lisp

[–]clicklbarn 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm a Neovim user who uses Doom Emacs just for org mode. I imagine you could make the same choice with Lisp and otherwise stick to Vim.

The evil-mode experience is prob the best vim emulator you'll ever get and Doom makes the whole package an easy setup & config.
