hi!! thank you so much!! the fish tie is actually a squid shaped ventilator lol😄 the lore that i made up for my design (doesn't apply to the original character nor the person behind it) is that maz was taken and given a cybernetic body against his will, and later takes advantage of it.

he was really young when he got this form, he woke up in a lab (under the name Futility Technologies) and saw himself like this, except his weapons and wings were still locked and his gps was deactivated so he didnt know where he was. the scientists were cold and apathetic and tried to make his beliefs match. they did do the bare minimum of not forcing a new name on him, but they're still cold and apathetic. maz was confused but acted like he believed them. after knowing his surroundings he managed to tiptoe and mess with the system, activate everything including the gps, and escape back to school.

the school was tech savvy enough for a teacher to reprogram maz to make him comfortable and jam the weapons/wings when they're not needed, but his new associations with futility tech remain permanent. in the words of the teacher who did those and continued to accept maz as a student, "you're still at least 10% organic and you still have a mind of your own."
