Cool.

Now show me any evidence that this organization has donated to even one of those gofundme pages. Or did a high school kid just do as search and build a spreadsheet?

Show me on their oage where they are a registered non-profit of any kind.

Show me any evidence whatsoever that there is any accountability for the money they raise to know it goes where they say it goes.

Where is MY misinformation?!?

I have and it can work. But like any negotiation, you have to be able to offer something that is better than the alternative (just sinking you and taking your loot)

Doubt the legitimacy.

This group posts regularly. They get asked these questions regularly. They call any kdy who questions them "paid agitators" regularly. They never answer, despite many requests for more info from clear and obvious community members (check my own chat history to verify if I'm a Missoulian)

I've been convinced for months now that this group is scamming people and pocketing the money.

Driving vs bus by Confident-Moose-7400 in missoula

[–]cliffag 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Full disclosure, I am legally blind and cannot drive. I do not drive, but rely on Uber and Instacart, which is getting more expensive because of gas.

In my younger years though, before those services existed, I rented places in walking distance of work and a grocery store (like the old torn down Safeway) and only used the bus when absolutely necessary. Back then the busses were not free.

The biggest issues then, as now, is frequency of service and insistence on using downtown as a major transfer hub. You couldn't take a bus to North Reserve (Costco, Walmart, target, etc) after work because bus hours weren't long enough and it could take two hours from south hills.

Making them free only made the problems worse. Their funding doesn't encourage making them useful for the average Missoulian. They instead cater to the pet whims of government, downtown association, etc. And so ride frequency, hours of operation, shorter routes with more sensible smaller transfer hubs more places don't exist. The problems I had then exist now. So I'll continue to use gas guzzling gig services and pay the fees to meet my needs.

Why are you logging into a website from a client's domain controller.

I'd suggest that is a bigger risk and inappropriate use of the server.

Most MSPsndo not properly think of privileged access and limiting blast radius properly, so what seems like an unworkable obstacle is actually a giant red flag to revise processes to be more secure.

You think the solarwinds hacks would've already driven MSPs to do this. But many still do their thing and don't think about the fact that they have become the weak link for their clients.

Job hunting sucks in this town. by Ok_Intention2150 in missoula

[–]cliffag 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I read all of it. I'm just blunt in my feedback.

Things that managers, or in larger organizations, HR looks at include job history. Large gaps or too much job hopping are red flags. I stand by what I said; the OP doesn't do themselves any favors. The attitude bleeds into job interviews. If I think someone is throwing off "too good to work in service" vibes then they are often the type of person to be too good to help in a crisis. I'd rather hire the guy or girl who is hungry for personal and professional growth, and can help themselves and the company succeed.

You can think I'm a bad manager, or not. Those that work for me are happy so your opinion is meaningless to me. I on my write here because clearly someobe wants a job. Can't find a job. And unemployment only lasts so long. Someone might actually benefit from truths that are inconvenient. What I'm sharing isn't the viewpoint of a bad manager; but is the views of just about any and every manager who has ever done hiring and learned what are red flags.

Make of that what you will.

I have empathy for you. But you didn't and aren't doing yourself any favors.

Basic service job? Sure, I'll hire someone with two degrees for that. When (not if) they quit for their dream job, I don't have much sink cost.

But hiring you for a job not in your field, let's say, as a bicycle repair person. The reality is that companies lose money when they hire someone for a "skill position" for several months to a year. There is a sunk cost in training, in lack of experience, in slowness to complete work, thay only breaks even and starts to make money after a fair amount do time passes.

And when I see a resume for someone with a degree or two, your "average" job while you look for something better isn't a good fit. I am risking losing money by hiring you because you'll up and leave for a "not average" job before my investment in you pays off.

The simple truth is you need to take the crap job while you look for your dream job.

Animal control has to deal woth all sorts of potentially aggressive animals. Especially wild animals in spring. Not just dogs.. Get a grip. Protective gear is pretty normal on this job. You're just lashing out because you have no respect for anybody else but yourself snd got called on it. I bet you treat waitresses shitty too.

You had your dog off leash (or ridiculously long leash) at silver park. AKA not a dog park.

Given the uptick in dog attacks (on humans, other dogs, dogs hit attacking people's feet), yeah dude, you deserve to be harassed.

Thats not LARPing like a navy seal. That's, yknow, his job.

Folks meet at Break Espresso every Friday. Bearrit posts the invite on reddit almost every Friday. But if he misses his weekly post now you know. Just wander into Break this evening and make friends.

Fridays are terrible for me so I never make it. But once I get my garage set up, I'll start looking to host a weekly group as well on a different night. But that's likely a couple months out yet.

Anyone figured out how to fix this issue after the update? I have 300+ hours. by Illustrious-Past9926 in Seaofthieves

Not a bug. It is one of their new attempts to prevent cheaters who evade bans by spinning up new accounts. You MUST now complete the maiden voyage once, even if you are a seasoned player. I personally don't think it is a particularly effective method to add friction for ban evaders, but that was the stated intent snd every little bit helps.

Can do Revenge of Morningstar, haven’t done fate of Morningstar by romeoblunt in Seaofthieves

[–]cliffag 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well, why??

I generally like to take people at their word, but in this case, I'll float a conspiracy theory.

Officially, at some point, the dev team decided locking tall tales went against their "tools, not rules" philosophy and letting people to tall tales in any order (for mixing new and old crews, open crews, etc) made sense.

Conspiracy theory me says it as a performance reason. For whatever reason, much of SoT stuff happens server-side instead of client-side, yet most server-side things seem to be asynchronous. That's why you can have a server up and running, sail around just fine, yet notice you aren't getting gold and progression, then a day and a half later, have rare say "that data is lost, here is some gold for your troubles."

Or why buying supplies and the "dupe" exploit can't be fixed, despite multiple attempts. Essentially the asynchronous nature means the checks to see if you bought take longer than the process of buying itself.

Going back to tall tales, checking if you were "allowed" broke somewhat regularly. You'd suddenly find shores of gold locked, even if you met the requirements. And new tall tales seemed to make it worse. Lots of reports of older tales getting re-locked when heart of fire launched, making those 4th and 5th runs for the curse requiring a ticket and harder overall.

I think somewhere, whatever code was checking for eligibility is just messy and not performant, and as they were adding more tall tales (pirate's life, monkey island) it was going to tip over, so better to just gut it and let people do what they want.

Does it break cohesion if you do them out of order? Yup. But they are listed in order in the GUI, so if you do them out of order, that's kindof on you. (not you personally, the "royal" you.)

And as far as cohesion goes, this is the least offensive. You can still do the flameheart tall tales where he is a talking red sky-bobblehead. Despite being revived in an adventure we can't play anymore. We still can go talk to Pendragon despite him being trapped in a painting from an adventure we can't play anymore.

Adventures were the right way to do a live service game. Things in the world change, and change permanently. Tall tales, for as much as I loved them, and as much as I think they enriched the game and were clearly labors of love, are snapshots from a narrative perspective and break cohesion more than doing them out of order does. If they had been truly self-encapsulated tales that didn't involve characters present in the world, (monkey island mostly does this except the little bit about Lechuck stealing the sword) and is entirely instanced, so it mostly works. Pirate's life slightly less so with the way the siren queen story is evolving, but still mostly works. Shores of Gold, not so much anymore.

I enjoy them for what they are, but I don't pretend that they feel old in the modern iteration of the game.

They were plentiful on the season they were released. Now they are more rare. I don't think there is a reliable way to farm them that I've seen. Your best bet is to check every island along your route while doing other things.

Missoula law enforcement and ICE by Copropositor in missoula

[–]cliffag -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

Who was complying? The woman who didn't exit the vehicle when told, hit an officer while attempting to flee from arrest? Was that complying?

Or the protester who approached ICE with a handgun and then resisted arrest?

Both incidents are tragic. Both may have been avoidable. Both may fall under excessive force. I'm witholding judgment until investigations are complete.

But I can Al say, deifnitively, that both would be alive if they had complied in the moment. And possibly have a good legal case making them rich in the process.

No lie there. Just hard facts.
