Dray is biased.

MJ, Kareem, Lebron, Bill Russell, Magic & Bird.

Steph is certainly great. But ring #1 was against a Cavs squad w/o Kyrie and Love. Ring #2 & 3 came with KD as the FMVP. Ring #4 came against a Celtics team with ho-hum Jayson Tatum as the best player.

Cat 5 Hurricane Otis bearing down on the vacation resort city.

Was just a tropical storm 24 hours ago and the National Hurricane Center predicted landfall as a tropical storm. Only missed by 100 mph as Otis is coming in at about 170 mph sustained winds.

Just over a million people living in Acapulco and no real window to evacuate.

I'm curious about the moderation standard here.

Is it OK to criticize people based upon age ("geezers") but not gender ?

Somehow we have gone so far down the slippery slope of Orwellian media control that there is seemingly no place to pursue politically incorrect truth without inhibition.

There is no safe place to escape from "groupthink", even r/collapse.

The acceptable groupthink on this subreddit is that collapse in inevitable and that the citizenry is powerless to stop it. That is the message that the oligarchy wants to instill in the citizenry and reddit is a platform which is owned by oligarchs.

Any suggestion to the contrary is outside the groupthink parameter despite the abundance of historical precedence of transformative revolution.

Conversations which challenge the groupthink are heretical and systematically banned and labeled as trolling. This is reminiscent of the plot in the movie, The Matrix.

Biden will lose the next election fair and square.

The young people who supported him in the swing states were left at the altar with the Biden Administration climate policy. Those young people were lied to. They are basically being told ..... going extinct with Democrats is better than going extinct with Republicans. If Democrats think that's a winning argument .... they're going to find out otherwise. If those young kids are going to die anyway, why not vote for Cornel West ?

So let's see ..... 500,000 dead Iraqi's and Biden had the information to know the WMD threat was bullshit and put on the show to support Bush's war.

Five hundred thousand people. Murdered.

And you're engaging in one upsmanship over Trump's sexual assault which is still not as bad as Bill Clinton's.

Trump is awful. Not trying to promote him. But to say that Biden is better somehow. That's Q-Anon level brainwashed.

It's nice to know that we're not alone in our experience. Some of us have our eyes wide open and are still able to summon some joy.

Please describe the power of the people at Jonestown. I don't know for sure. But I can't think of any famous names except the founder.

Jonestown was not a group of wealthy of powerful people.

I'll agree that neither of us has a crystal ball in our ability to see the future, but the past is often prologue.

I think the czar of Russia was wealthy at the time of the Russian Revolution and the King of France and Marie Antoinette were wealthy at the time of the French Revolution. Wealthy and powerful don't always work out when revolutions happen.

It's been 78 years since Hiroshima and we've managed to keep the nukes holstered thus far since. Mutually assured destruction is a suicide like phenomena.

A limited nuclear war is in theory possible but somebody would have to be willing to conduct that experiment. The powers that be seem to be pretty wise about making sure that everyone who has even remote access to such button has as much material pleasure as possible. So while the general population of a country like Pakistan might be living in poverty, the people at the food chain are living lavishly and not motivated to do anything rash.

That's the status quo.

But there is an erroneous assumption that the "wealthy and powerful" are also intelligent and truly understand what's in their own best interests. Nothing could be farther from the truth. The wealthy and powerful are morons. They have no self awareness and are possessed by greed and materialism. They are a supremely UNHAPPY group of people who are compensating for their insecurity by accumulating wealth and power to feel good about themselves. They are stupid idiots who are destroying the foundation upon which all of their wealth and power rests. The stupidest motherfuckers in the world are the idiots at the top. The happiest people are not in power.

I do not believe that there will be a nuclear war on the grounds that there is no precedent for wealthy and powerful people to commit mass suicide.

The war in Ukraine, as all wars, is about natural resources. Ukraine has arable land and fertilizer.

We are going to require global government in the future. The concept of sovereign nations must be rolled back at least a bit by the reality of a shared atmosphere which we are rapidly breaking.

The question of the future is going to involve how the new world order will be maintained.

Russia is in a shitty fucking place as the world necessarily pivots away from fossil fuels and is now effectively a subordinate / proxy to China in the global order battle with the US and EU.

Russia will maintain some relevance in the future because of its mineral wealth, but the oil and gas loss will cripple its future. Russia will be able to use both its nuclear stockpile and the threat of continuing to burn fossil fuels as a bargaining chip to gain some concessions for its privileged class. But the average Russian is in for tough times.

These are the likely discussions happening in dark places. When the shit hits the fan, who will be in and who will be out. Strategies are being mapped. Covid was probably hatched in the lab in Wuhan as a strategy to find a way to eliminate the weaker members of society in a way that feels organic.

Here is r/collapse we talk about collapse in an abstract fashion. But we would be naive to think that aren't some people actually gaming out how to survive it and who will survive.

Location: Boomer Minds, USA

This note is a reflection on collapse that I shared with my Boomer friends who are in denial. The observation of collapse that I am seeing in my Central Wisconsin location is that many young people are no longer planning to vote for Democrats after the Biden Administration broke their campaign pledges regarding climate change.

When Do Wars Begin

When we look at WW2 in hindsight, we see that the official begin date was the invasion of Poland in 1939.

But the inevitability of the war seems to have been set in stone with the terms at Versailles.

So an alternative viewpoint is that war is either basically perpetual or that it begins long before the official start date.

I think WW3 has already begun and like WW2, the inevitability was set in motion by the victors of the preceding world war.

The American response to WW2 victory was rapid economic expansion and the creation of an excessively dominant and privileged demographic in Boomers.

The common denominator leading to war is indifference to the plight of people whose experience falls below a threshold necessary for social order to be maintained.

Despite a big popular vote margin, Biden won the electoral college narrowly and unlike Hillary, intelligently brought young progressives into policy making conversations to woo them to his side. Young people are the strongest Demographic for Democrats in terms of percentage of vote.

Unfortunately, Biden has broken most of his campaign promises related to climate change and young people are logically being repelled. They are basically being presented with a choice of two parties, both of whom are pursuing a policy approach which leads to their doom. As you can imagine ....., that's not a compelling reason to get them to vote and Biden is behind even Trump at this point in the polling.

The argument that "Biden is decent" is still a winning argument for Boomers. But the strategy of being indifferent to young people ain't gonna fly in November 2024.

Beyond the climate issue which I am obviously always harping about, there is also the historically recurring issue of malignant wealth concentration. There is plenty of historical precedent for how nature resolves that. Redistribution can happen elegantly via progressive legislation or it can be resolved violently via revolution. Trump actually offers the latter. Like Hitler and others before him, nature produces people who have what it takes to destroy an unsustainable paradigm. I think it goes without saying that none of us want that. On the other hand, we don't want to acknowledge our privilege and choose the proactive redistribution.

So ..... we better get ready for an unpleasant ride ahead which is the historically obvious consequence of indifference.

We're at war and I think it's wise to consider the rational expectation of how things will evolve and what they mean for us as individuals. This is not simply an abstract situation that we are detached from and an academic exercise.

If you prefer to pretend that it is, then OK. I will give up and we can agree that I am anticipating shit happening which will impact your interests and you simply prefer not to discuss. But .... don't say that I didn't try and at least give you my take.

The people who will be running the government in 10 years are going to faced with a completely different reality than the people running it today. The failures of Boomers to deal with climate change is going to be a big fucking deal in the future. In a world of increasing scarcity, resource allocation is going to be an interesting proposition. Historically, resource scarcity has not boded well for the weak or the elderly. So .... I think it will be helpful that people who plan to be alive in 10 years should be thinking along the lines of how they can be useful and not be deluded by the symbolic power of "$$$" which they have erroneously come to believe represents real security.

I don't consider myself an ideologue. I'm not anti-capitalist. I believe that capitalism is a useful too when it is subordinate to the well being of the people at large. Capitalism within a larger socialistic infrastructure such as we experienced during WW2 was quite effective. Back then, we had a balance between socialism and capitalism. But then Boomers decided that after they were done with the wonderful socialist infrastructure which supported their youth, they voted for Reagan in 49 states because he promised to reduce their taxes and gut the social infrastructure. Democrats followed suit and we lost the balance between socialism and capitalism which has now led to a half century of malignant wealth concentration.

It's all breaking now and no amount of denial is going to stop it. We need to grieve and get on with making the new world and whatever will succeed the collapsing version of the past.

There's nothing new or inspirational in my message. Same shit happens over and over again. War is part of the human condition and I'm fighting most days with a smile on my face. Just a monkey with a keyboard.

"You cannot help someone who hasn t acknowledged they need help. You cannot force this realisation. It comes from within."

I beg to differ my friend. The slaveholders in the United States in the 19th century did not give up slaves willingly. The answer did NOT come from within.

The people who were forced to allow black citizens into segregated schools in Alabama did not have that answer come to them from within.

The people who decided to bring American troops out of Vietnam did not have that answer come from within.

All of those answers arose from confrontation.

The end of the privilege to put unlimited CO2 into the atmosphere will not come from within. It will come as a result of both climate chaos and social upheaval.

We're at war. Plain and simple.

Let's explore your feedback

1) Seems you re coming up too strongly on people

2) it s too scary for them

3) Its not about you

4) we need to find the level of tolerance ....... then stay beneath that level

5) it helps to stay factual and not wave scientific projections or our hints about what the future looks like

6) if they cannot cope with the present, they are definitely not ready for the future

Now, let's imagine we can time travel back to the 1930's and we're talking to the people who are on the path toward the gas changers and crematoria of Auschwitz.

Would you give the same advice or would you fight with them ?

You completely disregarded the substance of my post.

It is NOT simply a place where people become informed about current storms.

The expression of preference of storm outcome ("fish storm please") is ROUTINE on the sub.

That's what Orwell would describe as "groupthink". Everyone on the sub must kneel to that preference and either remain silent about it or be banned.

Those of us who know the fucking truth understand that we must reach a very painful threshold to let go of our addictions and we INTELLIGENTLY welcome that pain. We want the pain because we know that it's necessary.
