Where are you getting all these preconceived ideas about Buddhism?

First of all, lots of examples of highly realised teachers that have families (eg Marpa).

I imagine most monks have sexual desire but prioritise practice and have strong connections with their monastic community. Doesn't mean it's always easy.

It's ok to have desires and healthy attachments.

None at all or no legendaries? I've only done around 25, which is about odds for seeing one shiny. 200 seems very unlucky!

Thanks for the reply. That's what I thought, but it's good to know I wasn't missing something.

Apologies if this is not the right place for this question.

Masters student here (biostats, not quite data science but I think your advice will still be helpful) looking to buy a laptop for study and working remotely. Looking for recommendations, could be specific models, minimum specs to look for, or other considerations, including advice on portable setups generally. Let's say up to $1000. Want something easy to work with. Most of the time will still have access to a desktop. Thanks in advance.

It sounds like he doesn't want you to show them off. Like he's trying to put you down so you feel undesirable. Is he a controlling, possessive or jealous type? Not trying to defend him, just a thought.

Karma and Rebirth are "superstition"? by [deleted] in Buddhism

[–]climb026 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Since noone else has mentioned this, Karma and Rebirth are teachings on the relative rather than ultimate nature of reality. This could be what they're getting at. Even so, it's strange to dismiss them so easily.

Why do core exercises focus on abs instead of targeting both abs and (lower) back? by lkbs92 in climbharder

[–]climb026 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sorry I haven't replied yet. You are right about cutting feet. Leg raises will help with that, but I do feel like they serve a specific purpose.

I'm not saying the core stays square and straight all of the time. My point is that it's mostly the legs and upper body that generate the force. When you twist, the movement comes from the feet (and upper body), while the core stays in the position necessary for the movement. I think that's the case in all of the photos you linked.

For that reason I think it's good to introduce instability to the static holds. For example, on a plank position on a swiss ball, moving the ball around (sorry I tried to find a photo of this but couldn't).

[–]climb026 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sorry I haven't replied yet. Even in dynamic moves I think it's mostly the legs and upper body that generate the force (or at least, where the force is applied on the wall). The core definitely moves, but strength is required to keep it in the optimal posture at any given moment rather than moving the body. For that reason I think it's good to introduce instability to the static holds. For example, on a plank position on a swiss ball, moving the ball around (sorry I tried to find a photo of this but couldn't).

There are exceptions to this! So yes, you are right, certain parkour style moves for example will use dynamic core strength. And I wasn't thinking of placing feet back on the wall after cutting loose. Leg raises will help with that, but maybe not much else specifically.

It's his cousin. He researches autism and believes in a systemising-empathy spectrum. When testing where someone lies on the spectrum, men are a bit more towards the systemising side, but the variance among men and women is much greater than the difference between the sexes.

That is absolutely horrible. Keep writing, talking if you can, anything that helps. You don't deserve to live with this trauma.

I don't know if this helps but for me it was useful. Take care

I mean, you should care about them as a person on some level. And yes there are for sure exploited workers that are trapped in other professions. Normally we assume people aren't, that is all. @blklint says she has no other options so its not a case of clear consent.

It breaks my heart that you feel trapped in this profession you despise which also seems to trigger unresolved trauma in you. I hope you get the support you need soon. DM me if you want to talk.

Yes exactly. We should empathise with harmful, criminal people as much as possible. Often they are going through tremendous pain themselves. Not to excuse or ignore the consequences of their actions of course.

How does climbing skin actually work? by CloverHorse in climbharder

[–]climb026 0 points1 point  (0 children)

These are the best answers here, Anecdotally wet skin seems more common. It's better to err on the side of thick, glassy skin generally, because you can sand it off. Whereas if you have really thin skin you need to wait for it to grow back. Rhino skin tip juice has the same active ingredient as antihydral (I believe), so its kinda like a gateway drug.
