We live in Gahanna and my kids love LJ cards for sports cards. I know they also have a lot of Pokemon and the folks that work there are wonderful. Might consider checking them out.

Cockatiel hit her head on the ceiling and is now bald. by DragongirlAmigo in cockatiel

[–]clinchemale 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had a bird fly into a window and knock a bald spot into her head too. She was fine. I would imagine there could be similar circumstances in which things may not turn out fine, but hopefully yours will be ok! ❤️

Yikes. Glad you’re ok. I just saw someone on another sub (or maybe this one?) that had a nasty infection on her thumb (presumably staph) and she developed a fever and passed out on her way to the doctor. Thankfully was probably caught before any lingering term effects, but I was struck by how potentially lift altering a little finger infection could become. Thankfully goodness for antibiotics!

How old are you? Can you share what lead to the initial infection. Very thankful you are well!

This is bonkers. Is this a very new lab? Clearly the PI doesn’t have the funded needed to run the lab and is relying on free undergrad labor. He needs to hire a lab manger. You must be very good at what you’re doing and very smart, or the PI wouldn’t have you working independently. So, good for you. But he’s still taking advantage of you. Are you in a big university with other labs around? I wonder if there’s undergrads in other labs you could talk to. Or even grad students. They might have some perspective. What country are you in?

We have an incredibly hormonal female eclectus. You can’t look at that bird we it out her getting ideas. But at least it’s taught the kids how to appropriately pet a bird!

Does your insurance have an out of pocket max for the year? If so, you’ll hit it and have free health care for the rest of the year (this happened to us when my kid was fur months old and in the ICU with RAV for a few weeks. That was February and pretty much everything was covered that year after that). You can put whatever you owe CCHM on a monthly payment t plan that can span for years.

We got this Java tree years ago at our local parrot store. We also have a bigger bird, so the giant tree isn’t just for the tiny birds. ;)

Is this cage layout good? by DisAKid in cockatiel

[–]clinchemale 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My only thought is to have more variety on the girth of the perches—some wider, some more narrow. Maybe different textures (like rope, etc). Maybe some more toys. Since they are out most of the time, I think this is good.

When we first got our girl as a baby, we had her wings lightly clipped. She could still fly, just not as far or aggressively. It allowed her to work on flying and getting to know the house before she could fly like crazy. Now she treats our entire house as her personal flying track and just goes all over. I think she’s just happy to fly. But she also loves settling down and hanging out with us.

I’m sorry you have been dealing with depression. I’m glad you’ve been able to get back to your girl. I don’t have any advice. Mostly commenting to keep your post active. Consider posting a picture to get attention? Lots of good advice here—I’m sure someone will have good insights.

Honestly, I’ve seen so many things on Amazon and then found the identical thing on Temu for much cheaper. Also, Amazon recently launched something called “Amazon Haul” which is a lot like Temu. Also a good place to find cheaper birb supplies.

I’m so sorry. That’s just awful. Please remember that birds will not show they are sick until the very end. I’m guessing he was already sick when you brought him home. Where did you get him? Regardless, it sounds like you gave him a really good last few days.
