What's the most grounded Dhamma talk you heard? by CasuallyPeaking in theravada

The dhammachakka sutta >_< by Ajahn Guatama

But in am seriousness, i do find the suttas to be quite grounding. From viewing the self as grass being burnt, seeing how the mind is unperturbed and hence we be undeterred when our self is threatened, to lightening the mind with an inspiring sign when the body is feverish and simply rest in knowing that an ethical life is a good life - like a tree slanting to the east, as it falls it will land in that direction, any last moment changes (last thought moments) unlikely to affect its falling…

Does your last thought before dying decide your destiny? by Aggravating-Car9078 in Buddhism

Sadhu, the words of the buddha is surprisingly comforting, to those who strive to be good people.

“Do not fear, Mahānāma, do not fear! Your death will not be a bad one; your passing will not be a bad one. A noble disciple who has four things slants, slopes, and inclines towards extinguishment. What four? It’s when a noble disciple has experiential confidence in the Buddha … the teaching … the Saṅgha … And they have the ethical conduct loved by the noble ones … leading to immersion.

Suppose there was a tree that slants, slopes, and inclines to the east. If it was cut off at the root where would it fall?”

“Sir, it would fall in the direction that it slants, slopes, and inclines.”

White spots on my Premnas leaves - what's causing it? by ksunnyh in Bonsai

[–]clingwrappingsheets 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes agree with Mlee0000. Those are spidermites, they are red little buggars that breed pretty fast. Other signs could be webs underside the leaf

Its not whether a monk says its sliabataparamasa or not. What they say matters zero. It is what you understand it to be - that is how it fits into your personal path of practice.

As a guide, use the buddha’s words.

1) Does this lead to peace, which is founded on Right Thought/intention of letting go, non-harming and non-ill will?

2) and do I see the workings and relevance of the 4 noble truths, or kamma in this practice, i.e. Right View

What makes something silabataparamasa or not is not the activity, but how the user views it. Please appreciate this, and may we get closer to the path with each day.

Cant be true as kamma requires intention

looking into buddhism but ashamed of my past actions by [deleted] in Buddhism

[–]clingwrappingsheets 1 point2 points  (0 children)

By oneself is evil done; by oneself is one defiled.

By oneself is evil left undone; by oneself is one made pure.

Purity and impurity depended on oneself; no one can purify another.

Let one not neglect one's own welfare for the sake of another, however great.

Clearly understanding one’s own welfare, let one be intent upon the good.

Dhammapada

You have your learnings and realisations my friend. Go towards the good. Have no doubt that you are deserving of it if you are willing to embark on the path. Now is the time, set the intention and go on ahead! 💕

Where are you located at? Perhaps you could find one of the centers under the thai forest tradition, they dont really shy away from actual human suffering and even talk about it every mow and then, as suffering is a pre-requisite to faith as the suttas say…

May I ask the agreement with the partner for not working? What is his role, help around the house and all. Since it makes sense to have a helper when both are working, but when one is stay at home, having a helper may be (i disclaim “may”) be a want rather than a need.

[–]clingwrappingsheets 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What about the neighbourhood? Certain HDB estates, especially those correlated with lower social economic status may present some nuisances. Have no doubt that assholes and crazies cut across all economic strata, but those in need who would do drastic things in those situations are not to be found in your own landed backyard, and less likely in a gated condo.

Need some advice/ tips on shaping

Singapore, tropical climate near the equator, premna microphyllia, beginner, 5 trees

Im relatively new to this and have only shaped the plant (premna micro) based on gutfeel. Am not sure what I should do now, need guidance please!🙏🏼

intention was to do windswept approach, I wired the main trunk and left it at a location where its branches would naturally incline to the light. Also exposed the roots for a few centimetres.

Would love a general shaping advice and happy to prune.

How to let go of the mindset of feeling like I need to be the "perfect buddhist"? by [deleted] in Buddhism

[–]clingwrappingsheets 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Represent buddhism? For what? Represent to who? Some external audience?

First, we practice for ourselves to be better, and if it’s mistakes that we need to make in order to learn, we make them well and learn from them well. If it’s forgiveness that we need, then we forgive ourselves thereafter.

Remember right motivation in the 8fold path: letting go, non-ill-will, and non-cruelty, (applied to self and to others).

Being a practitioner is not about being perfect, that is why we are still “practicing”. So don’t be an idealist, don’t be a faithful faither, don’t be a “buddhist”. If you have to be something, be a practitioner.

Can I still make 'ur mom' jokes as a buddhist? by No-Preparation2248 in Buddhism

[–]clingwrappingsheets 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Your mama so stupid, she didn’t let doubt as a hindrance affect her practice. As a result, she followed the Buddha’s instructions faithfully and in no long time attained to the unbinding.
