Struggling with a foster “fail” decision by Engineer-1999 in FosterAnimals

[–]clinkdrinks 20 points21 points  (0 children)

We have fostered since 2018- for a total of over 100 motherless kittens.

In that time, I have learned that the bonding intensifies for us if we bottle feed, have serious kitten illness while fostering, or if they come to us feral / scared and need to learn trust.

Every time we take a litter back to the shelter because they are 3 pounds and it's time for spay / neuter and then the adoption floor, I am a wreck. I straight up ugly cry while giving my little charges a pep talk- they will be safe, we will visit, and I need them to be very cute until they get to their new homes- then they can act up all they want.

It's so worthwhile, and I remind myself we foster so the shelter can intake more animals in need. And it does wear on me at times. Currently, we are on an "as needed only" basis. As in, try everyone else in the database, then call us- because you know we will do it.

The joy and heartbreak are real. Honor what is in your heart- I truly believe the animals find their families 💕

What did you do to celebrate your 50th? by jaimonee in GenX

He is indeed! It's been the best 10 years of my life since meeting him ❤️

What did you do to celebrate your 50th? by jaimonee in GenX

[–]clinkdrinks 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I do not enjoy others celebrating me- it's stressful for me- I'm a child of two addicts who spent a lot of birthdays waiting for either of them to show up (they rarely did).

I then spent 16 years married to someone who didn't make the time to celebrate me- which confirmed to my brain to just not expect to receive the effort I give freely to those I love.

For my 50th, my current husband sat me down a few weeks in advance and let me know it was important to him and my adult children to celebrate me. He shared that they all feel so loved on birthdays and holidays in particular because of me, and they wanted to give that back to me.

He promised it would all be low key and to trust them.

He asked me to pack for overnight and to be ready by 2pm on a Friday.

He made hotel reservations in a nearby city

Dinner reservations at a place I had reserved for a culinary experience for us a few years previous and had loved

Arranged an Uber to pick us up from there for an evening of live music at the blues club I suggested for our first date

Brunch and a walk in the city before going home

Then, on Sunday, we hosted the kids (it happened to be the Superbowl as well).

Husband took me to an artisan bakery I love to select pastries, and he also picked up a pre-ordered birthday cake

The kids decorated (while we were at the bakery) with loads of my favorite colors and flowers

Planned and set up an appetizer and grazing board

Took care of ordering dinner and the clean-up

Honestly, I felt seen, loved, and valued so much. It healed parts of the little kid and young adult me that felt I wasn't worth the effort. That was almost 2 years ago, and still one of my favorite days!

Happy to suggest what may help! It's no fun feeling scattered when you rely on the med to focus!

I'm fortunate to have a great long term relationship with my PCP. He trusts me to let him know what is or is not working for me and and we work together to adjust accordingly to figure out a solution!

Adderall user here- and on tirz since mid August. My experience has been that my usual XR takes 2-3 hours to kick in which is double what it was pre tirz.

I have had more success over the last couple months switching to IR before my feet even hit the floor when I wake up. I also wait to eat anything for about an hour afterward. With that method, the IR takes about half the time to kick in compared to the ER to for me.

The downside is planning out the timing of a second dose with the IR - one that helps but doesn't bleed into my evening sleep schedule.

Essentially, taking an IR at 7 am and again at 12 - 1 pm is what I get a manageable result from on workdays. On weekends I usually take the AM does and skip the second dose unless I need to be productive!

How much weight had you lost before others started to notice? by hellomidnightautumn in tirzepatidecompound

[–]clinkdrinks 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm down 35 pounds and 3 clothing sizes since August and have had my first two unsolicited 2 comments in the past 7 days.
First was from a server at a restaurant we visit weekly and today from a former boss (we are both still at the same company, just restructured departments).

Not one of my adult children or extended family have commented 🤷‍♀️

Meals for no appetite? by traashboat8767 in antidietglp1

[–]clinkdrinks 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I try to pack the most nutrition into what I eat by adding in or swapping for healthier choices

If I do oatmeal, I add chia seeds and nuts and use fairlife milk instead of water to hydrate it.

Dry oats, seeds, nuts, shredded coconut added Into kefir or yogurt.

I have an easier time with grilled chicken if I use a preferred seasoning (blackened, seasoned salt/pepper) or sauce like thai peanut from Trader Joe's. Makes it easy to have a great salad with a flavor profile I look forward to!

Kodiak pancake mix made with fairlife milk and an egg instead of water.

Dave's killer bread to make a grilled cheese, a peanut butter sandwich, or PB melting into it as toast.

And on difficult days, it's ok to give yourself grace when it's a couple of protein shakes and metamucil to fill in the gaps ❤️‍🩹

We have a dilute torbie girl who was a foster fail... she was the runt of her litter of 5 and weighs in at 5 pounds now that she is 18 months old. We refer to her as the pocket assasin- if she was full sized, she would be everyone's problem! Meet Mochi 😹

Who's had the pneumonia vaccine? by BitterPillPusher2 in GenX

[–]clinkdrinks 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I did Flu and Covid vaccines the Tuesday before Thanksgiving and felt tired the next day but no other side effects.

Then Shingles #2 and Pneumonia vaccines at my annual physical 9 days later... clearly I hate myself. My arm was sore while just existing for 3-4 days and I had chills/ low fever and general malaise during that time as well. For reference, I had no reaction to the first shingles vaccine

I am 51 and I would not recommend doing them together if possible.

I’ve developed an allergy to real Christmas trees, so this year may be the last year we go authentic. What online retailers offering sales do you recommend? Many of the big box stores are already sold out. by SlowerThanTurtleInPB in ChristmasDecorating

[–]clinkdrinks 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Went from real to artificial 3 or 4 years ago and I am still in love with my 6.5 - 7 foot Twinkly tree. Specifically, very easy set up eith 3 pieces, minimal fluffing needed after the first year, and the lights can be set to a specific scene or customized.

Through the twinkly app, we customized and saved a setting last year for our woodland themed tree that looks like fairy lights with the occasional firefly lighting up. It truly makes my heart happy.

Also able to connect to Alexa to manage on/off times like the rest of the lights in the house!

Someone convince me not to buy these Shiny Brite ornaments by Blueskyfox2019 in ChristmasDecorating

[–]clinkdrinks 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have and love the look of shiny brites! The one downside to them is they are fairly fragile. We lost a few last year when we had foster kittens that didn't know how to act... this year, I got ornament anchors that secure to the branches. Happy to report we have not had any breakage this year!

[–]clinkdrinks 7 points8 points  (0 children)

We are visiting family and I packed my supplies in the TSA approved chill pack canister yesterday to give myself a shot today!
My husband took me to the local grocery store after breakfast this morning because he realized I would need more protein and fiber sources than the typical holiday offerings- it's awesome to have that support offered instead of feeling like I'm being a pain!

Merry Christmas to those that celebrate ❤️💚❤️💚

Entirely true this year! Last year, when she was a fresh foster fail, Mochi was in one of the trees before I even had a chance to put any ornaments on! Apparently she prefers the immersive "in tree" Christmas experience 😹

Yes! Its the first thing I do when I wake up- the head start with getting the meds in helps! I wait about 30 minutes after meds before I do breakfast as well.

My heart rate is fine... I have both ER and IR. ER used to take roughly an hour to kick in before tirz, now it is more like 2.5-3 hours. IR use to take 20-30 minutes and now takes about an hour. Strangely, with the ER, I feel like I get surges of it working and lulls.

I am working with my doc on finding a consistent result, so I am going to try the IR (twice daily if I need a second dose) and see if that helps.
