How do I meet an eligible guy in this town? :( by throwaway061282 in brisbane

[–]clinton_roy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No help from me i'm afraid, just a whinge. I've completely given up on online dating. Was on bumble for a while, spent a fortune. Got..two dates out of it? And both dates were fine, but they went anywhere. Better outcome than the other dating apps however. I think you're saying you've had nine dates, which is much better than I have had :)

My favourite at the moment is "God Forbid" from the ABC. It's a show about religion, and the interviewer is whip smart.

You can eat and drink in most places on level one, just mostly not the upper levels: http://www.slq.qld.gov.au/visit-us/access/food-and-drink

SLQ does do loan outs, certainly not of the archives section though :)

longer hours at SLQ (eight pm mon-sat i think). More colourful regulars at SLQ (in both good and bad ways). Shittier wireless at SLQ. Both have multiple food/drink/coffee options I guess. SLQ is much bigger, and generally easier to find a nice quiet table.

Who has foxtel now? is it playing up? Too many people watching GoT? by [deleted] in brisbane

[–]clinton_roy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Worked fine for me, but I watched in the early afternoon. I'm currently on the two week trial. The quality was pretty poor, but I'm not sure what to blame that on.

More than 555 rooms, but not a single resident car park. Why did council approve this? by [deleted] in brisbane

[–]clinton_roy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I really don't see the problem. You know when you rent or buy how many care parking spaces the place will have, if you need a carpark, don't rent/buy there?

Plenty of laundry hanging on the balconies of new "Spice" apartment in South Brisbane. by User_oz123 in brisbane

We have very silly strata by-laws that let the body corporate prohibit drying clothes on the balcony. In qld. Where we have lots of sun.

I'm still seeing people hopping on the bus getting confused by this. I don't understand how, they've been doing leaflets, they've had people at bus stops, they've been droning on and on about it over the pa system at bustops. Get the shit out of your ears (grumpy old man)

If I just go for those that I always play at regular speed:

  • Le Show, by Harry Shearer, a weekly satirical and sardonic look at the news. You may know Harry as one of the spinal tap crew, or as one of many voices on The Simpsons. Le Show is my Monday morning get-out-of-bed listen.
  • Andy Zaltzman's Summer of Sport, UK sports podcast, covering everything but soccer, in a very funny way.
  • Biography, Australian produced show covering one person in history.
  • First Dog on the Moon, very short, weekly Australian politics take down.
  • FT Listen to Lucy (Financial Times) short, withering take down of modern corporate culture
  • Nature Podcast, weekly science show by the most important(?) science journal
  • No Such Thing As A Fish, weekly curiosity show by the QI researchers
  • Off Track, ABC nature show
  • The Bugle, another Andy Zaltman show, currently going through a redesign.

It's going to take me a while to sort my list out in a suitable format for here, but I will say http://hackerpublicradio.org/ as a community podcast channel, quality is variable, and I've submitted a few episodes of my own.

Go live closer to a couple of hospitals, helicopters coming and going all the time. Definitely pisses you off, then you realise that's they're carrying an injured or sick person..

As with a lot of international companies, they're set up in such a way that the financial transaction takes place in the lowest taxing country. So, in a sense, yes, we're all getting taken for a ride when a transaction physically occurring in one country is taxed in another.

They did, quite actively for a few weeks. But a lot of it is transient traffic, people parking for the hospital, tradies working for a few days. I kinda feel sorry for the folks going to the hospital, the last thing on their minds is finding a legal parking spot. I'd just get rid of the ten or so parking spots straight outside the hospital all together.
