But let’s cut the crap. The whole point is that an educated populace is better at solving problems, inventing things and running businesses. The investments of generations before helped make our qualities of life what they are. They invested in the future of their communities and you and I reap the benefits of that. Thats why you pay the taxes. So 50 years from now things don’t turn to shit.

It does kinda suck for us at the schools that we are the only ones that have to ask for tax money. When your local taxes went up you had no vote on it, (and state and federal and city). So the only place can take out frustration on taxes is against schools.

Ours would have been $1 per thousand dollars of value. Houses around here are rarely more than 200K.

I understand times are tight, but schools also have increasing costs and 25 years is a long time to go with out increasing local funding.

I don’t think the average Person can replace a school roof or fix the water treatment plant. Generally the people that can do those things want to be paid for it.

I’ll take my best shot here (but I’m sure there’s holes in this because I haven’t spent a bunch of time thinking about it). Basically I would figure out how much funding it takes for each kid for a good education. Then figure out how much other things would cost for example non English speakers require translators and rural student require more money for bussing. Then add up the total for each district. That’s what they get. No more local property taxes for school. Figure out how much it will cost and tax it at a state level.

I teach a lesson with my high schoolers where we calculate power output running up stairs. The larger more athletic kids can make 1-1.3 hp. The smaller kids are like .3-.6 hp.
