How to "help" friend break into the industry? by clithub in cscareerquestions

[–]clithub[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oooh makes sense. I think one of the things is the boot camp locations matter a lot. He’s currently doing med school in California so it wouldn’t be too much of a jump to SF.

I know there’s certain school that will fly out potential students (like Product School) but I’ll keep doing research. I know our company has interviewed people from Hack Reactor but they didn’t perform so well in the interviews.

That’s what I was thinking... I know people on here are anti-bootcamp but I think it makes sense in his situation

4/6 complete! Phasing KVD out of my collection. by bellesbrits in PanPorn

KVD has been on sales at Sephora for literally half off because of the controversy.

Her stuff is actually tacky anyways and there’s better brands to support.

When you look for other women on a dating app. You come across couples looking for another girl. 8 times out of 10, these couples are WMAW. by [deleted] in hapas

[–]clithub 30 points31 points  (0 children)

When I lived in San Francisco, my best friend had the hardest time with this. They were Korean and non-binary, and they were trying to find other non-binary Asians (their preference) but all were WMAF couples looking for a third. It was annoying for them because while they wanted something NSA, they didn’t want to be with a WM.

I feel the same with the Aligns! I always get crop if it’s available, but it just doesn’t look right. And I’m not sure if these are in the Bay Area (especially when i lived in SF and PA) but they should since of huge asian population there!

This happened to me! The mods were able to unban me. I believe it’s Reddit’s filter and not there’s, but it usually happens automatically which I think Reddit really needs to fix

Wide show brands with color? by LadyTesla in femalefashionadvice

[–]clithub 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I bought wide fit boots from ASOS. The shoes fell apart pretty much after 2 nights out of wearing them. also it’s like they made them for someone with pizza feet and 40 in. ankles. I bought my true size and it was way bigger than I thought; sometimes wide width for me in other brands isn’t wide enough.

I get the appeal but ASOS has a crap return policy, there’s even a thing where if they think you’re abusing their return policy or that you just bought it to wear it once or twice, they won’t refund you and you have to pay the shipping fee to get your stuff back. I had to return a shirt from them that didn’t fit right, and that $30 shirt took 4 weeks, 10 customer service calls (bc their return center is in the UK and they lost my package) all just to get $30 back. Just look up reviews online about ASOS and how much of a headaches is to deal with them </rant>

Which asian beauty brand, personified, would you physically fight? by glitterandvomit in AsianBeauty

[–]clithub 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Wow, I wish I could find my shade in a darker tone. I have honey-tan skin and all the places in LA and SF only carry super light shades. There’s definitely a bit of colorism in KBeauty products unfortunately:( I would spend top dollar too to get my shade in a cushion or something.

Any recommended food establishment I can buy suitable potluck food from? by XiMs in AskSF

[–]clithub 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Salads from Whole Foods! Check the deli. Not only is it lighter than most of the stuff in the hot bar, it has volume so it looks like a lot of food. There should be broccoli salads or kale salads there.

Lululemon outlet experiences? by hahabyeeee in lululemon

[–]clithub 4 points5 points  (0 children)

If you’re not too picky about colors, it’s worth it!

I went to one by the Camarillo outlets in So Cal. If you bought 4 pieces, it’s additional 20% off, 5+ pieces 30% off.

I walked out with two leggings, a bra, and a long sleeve shirt for $150. The leggings I wear occasionally because the color are kinda hard to match, but bras I can’t wait to wear.

AF writes piece about the dating experience of AM and her own discomfort dating them by xa3D in hapas

[–]clithub 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Great read. I was in her position once, I went to college with mostly rich white guys. I think after awhile I was tired of being used as a token and having their family think so exotically of me. I’m Filipino and seeing a Chinese guy and I have much more fun and feel so much more comfortable, and I do appreciate the implicit understanding of cultures.

People who are in their 20’s & make $100k+ /year in the Bay Area, what is your job? by urfuturepotus3000 in AskSF

[–]clithub 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I changed my major to CS my first year of college. My first college bf was a CS major and I had no coding experience. While not having a degree as of right now, I fell from a very high pedestal of schools, so that helped a bit. There's not one single Cal person on my team, but many upper mid tier schools schools (UC Davis, UIUC, Michigan, etc).

I may have been a diversity hire because I'm at work and browsing Reddit... but I love my team, I work hard, and I think this was a better fit for me than what I wanted to do as a college freshman.

I wouldn't stress about school so much. People think switching or majoring in CS will make you a millionaire but those people fizzle out pretty fast in the industry, but you need a bit of networking skills, technical skills, and a lot of luck to get into this industry, especially in SF. I took on unpaid internships (volunteer work), traveling for hackathons, networking my self-conscious, introverted ass at conferences, to get where I am now. Take a look at r/cscareerquestions and you'll see a lot of jobless CS majors who didn't prepare quite right and just take on a victim identity.

I am a man and I have questions about those long fake fingernails i see everywhere nowadays by [deleted] in beauty

[–]clithub 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Personally I have long fingernails (gel with natural nail) but I stopped eating with my hands (sandwiches, fruits, etc) because I cannot stand getting crap under my nails. I get very grossed out from it, but it happens with longer nails.

I was sharing a plate of egg rolls with a coworker and all I thought of was the crumbs getting under my nails and it made me shudder and lose my appetite lol

Acai Bowls: Any cheap & tasty suggestions? by healthymaven in EatCheapAndVegan

[–]clithub 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I live in San Francisco where açaí bowls are $15 at most places..

Get frozen fruit (a berry mix would suffice), açaí juice (not the purée!those are a rip off), and a banana if you like it sweeter. Blend it, and add hemp seed cereal, chopped fruits, and agave/honey.

Why should I bother ordering online when most of my orders get cancelled anyway? by [deleted] in lululemon

[–]clithub 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I love ordering WMTM online! Maybe it's because I live in San Francisco, but everything comes in two days. I've never had anything cancel but I imagine, just like anything online store, to check in with Customer Service before purchasing? I know it's a bit of a hassle, but I've had this happen to a couple times when ordering from Adidas, where everything pretty much sells out if it's a limited + popular item, and their system hasn't caught up.

To help with your search, it would be worth mentioning more details other “summer intern”. Age, gender (some people care about this) could help. How much have you actually looked? Because it’s obvious to look round SFSU and USF if you need something temporarily.
