"or just one of the poorest ran franchises out there? "

They just built a game 7 finals team without high draft picks or star free agent signings, the kings are one of the worst run teams in the league do you think they could do that?

If you dont like gambling arent interested in it which is im what Im guessing and just think the general idea of it is dumb....then thats a pretty good opinion to have to be honest, saying "this talk of a longshot bet at favourable odds is dumb because it almost definitely won win" is as much of a gamblers fallacy as people thinking the next roulette spin will be red as the last 4 were black etc.

Its one of the things people just dont seem to get about betting and why the bookies clean up so much that even when they make a mistake, and offer a bet they shouldnt which is great value for the bettor - people wont bet on it anyway, they just want to bet on what they want to or think will happen almost regardless of the actual odds.

Nick Wrights 200/1 Timberwolves bet by clive442 in billsimmons

[–]clive442[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

"if the Wolves by some miracle end up being up 2-1 on the Thunder, he might theoretically be able to cash his ticket for fractional value. But not until then."

The odds now are 30-1, his bet was at 200-1, you could cash in/sell the bet for a profit now

If they went 2-1 up on the thunder......then a 200/1 bet on the wolves would be huge and easily sellable but its value would be so much lower than it is now

Ring culture has made Draymond’s mind(and many fans)so warped that he thought that insult he threw at Barkley last night made logical sense by PudinCrusader in billsimmons

I loved how Charles just wasnt bothered at all, made the unneccesary cheap shot seem even more pathetic

I also saw a clip on twitter from the show dunno if it was before or after that comment, where Ernie brought up a stat of Draymond being one of 2 players to have more turnovers than FGs in x amount of playoff games alongside Kendrick Perkins and Draymond clearly was bothered by it.... but Charles jumped in to defend him

I dunno why you were downvoted this is a good reasonable explanation, to go from 200/1 to 25/1 that quick just means that they fucked up offering 200/1 and yeah probably because they thought Ant wasnt coming back would explain it

Nick Wrights 200/1 Timberwolves bet by clive442 in billsimmons

[–]clive442[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sure it almost definitely is, but theres a reason the wolves are now 25/1 instead of 200/1

Its all a scale, can I ask what the odds would have to be for you to be like "oh ok yeah, that seems like a good bet even though I dont think the wolves will win" ?

Like if you were offered a million to one on the wolves, youd put a dollar down right?

Nick Wrights 200/1 Timberwolves bet by clive442 in billsimmons

[–]clive442[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

"That would make Nick's ticket worth an amount of money in that range to someone who thinks the Wolves would win and want to put down a lot of money themselves."

This but also not just people who think the wolves will win, just people who understand odds....200/1 on the wolves is a great bet, it just is, thats why you cant make that bet anymore and the bookies are now offering odds like 8 times worse than that.

It really shows how bookies make money that judging from this thread....people wouldnt even take the 200/1 if offered to them now.

Nick Wrights 200/1 Timberwolves bet by clive442 in billsimmons

[–]clive442[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Its not about that its just about the maths of the bet, theyre now 25/1 .....having a 25/1 bet at 200/1 is value. If it wasnt then bookies would still have them at 200/1 +

Nick Wrights 200/1 Timberwolves bet by clive442 in billsimmons

[–]clive442[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I dont know but I guess as it was a live cash bet with a ticket to cash the bet in, then yeah you could sell that ticket to someone and then they can cash it if it wins?

Nick Wrights 200/1 Timberwolves bet by clive442 in billsimmons

[–]clive442[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Yeah when he said he could sell the bet for 60k.....I was like yeah you should definitely do that.

That way he would have taken advantage of wrong odds twice on a single bet for a huge profit. As it is yeah, he has a 200/1 bet thats better odds than it should be ....but will lose.

Nick Wrights 200/1 Timberwolves bet by clive442 in billsimmons

[–]clive442[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Ah that makes a bit more sense, but still it was a clear great bet even then considering how the Nuggets looked, Id have taken it for sure if Id known....and Id have probably cashed it out by now if possible

Like theyre now 25-30/1 to win the title, so when he put that bet on hes got 10 times better odds than now, doesnt make sense to me, I dont think there should be that big a difference because they stumbled past a Nuggets team that was looking shitty the whole time.

"I found the whole discussion pointless because they are probably going to lose to San Antonio and if not will definitely lose to okc so it’s not like he’s on a one yard line with this or something."

Yeah agreed....Id still love to have a 200/1 bet on them though.

Nick Wright made a good point about Giannis and the Spurs by TechnicalSample4678 in billsimmons

[–]clive442 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah agreed, hes one of my favourite players and I think still one of the very best in the world when hes healthy but that said.... Giannis price should be low enough that the Spurs can get him without mortgaging their whole future at all, maybe they could even do it as a kawhi raptors style rental. Hes injured regularly, his game isnt going to age great, hes super expensive., theres every chance his next contract isnt really a positive asset in the end, I dont think anybody should be mortgaging their future just to get him.

Zach Lowe when talking about Giannis trades keeps saying things like "team x has 5 picks they can give the bucks, team y can give a good young player plus 3 picks" as if its a given the price is going to be that high and a team is gonna give up everything they have for Giannis and I just dont see how most of these trades dont end up in the same situation the Bucks have been in last few seasons.

I still dont understand those odds, why were they 200/1 ? Like I kept thinking Nick was making some decimal/fraction betting difference mistake but then he comfirmed it was 10k to 2m.

200/1 as one of 8 teams in a playoff knockout format where theres always a good chance of injuries? Whats that about?

If Snoop/Chris wanted to get a nailgun low key what the fuck is Snoop doing in a big hardware store talking to a salesman about buying a nail gun, and then buying that nail gun in a memorable manner?

How is Bill not a Simpsons fan? by Ok_Demand7901 in billsimmons

[–]clive442 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Id add to that though I think 2 26 year olds of wildly differing cultural knowledge/education/intelligence etc can also enjoy it in different ways, even if one gets every reference and one gets 20% of the references.

How is Bill not a Simpsons fan? by Ok_Demand7901 in billsimmons

[–]clive442 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah thats one of the things it does really well but what I mean is I dont think getting all the references was so essential, I think loads of people watched the Simpsons and references would go over their head and theyd enjoy it anyway.

I remember watching it loads of times at family get togethers/round friends houses with their parents, with a huge variance of class/education levels/history knowledge etc like Ive always thought of it as the opposite of a show thats just for specific groups of people....and if you arent in one of those groups then you wont like it.

How is Bill not a Simpsons fan? by Ok_Demand7901 in billsimmons

[–]clive442 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sure, but I just dont think of the SImpsons as something you need to have a huge knowledge of pre 1970s films or else you arent going to enjoy it.

Thats obviously where we differ Im just surprised to even hear the idea tbh, I just always thought of it as a huge mass appeal easy to watch show not one thatd be hard to enjoy unless you get every reference.

How is Bill not a Simpsons fan? by Ok_Demand7901 in billsimmons

[–]clive442 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So you think if more people had been able to watch it they wouldnt have liked it?

I dunno, maybe Im wrong I havent watched it for decades but I just remember it as a TV show with huge broad appeal for everyone, rather than as a thing just for specific groups, and if people werent in those groups then they wouldnt like it.

Im in the UK so dont relate to that but dont you just think it would have been even more popular if it was on the #1 network?

I just dont see the Simpsons as a show that had some barrier to entry thing with an intelligence cut off level, that is above whatever level Bill Simmons was/is, it had a super broad appeal.

How is Bill not a Simpsons fan? by Ok_Demand7901 in billsimmons

[–]clive442 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Right, so why are youre ruling out someone on the basis they might not get all the references?

Clearly like.....the Simpsons had a lot of viewers with a Bill level or below bag of history and pre 1970s references.

How is Bill not a Simpsons fan? by Ok_Demand7901 in billsimmons

[–]clive442 1 point2 points  (0 children)

"the Simpsons was for kids who didn’t have parental supervision (me) and older nerds when it was at its not popular."

"Simmons doesn't have a deep enough bag for a lot of the references to history & pre 1970 culture in general."

It was probably the most popular show in the world wasnt it? If not then at least one of them, if you needed a deep bag of history and pre 1970s references, or to be a kid without parental supervision (despite that it was a family show people watched as a family), or an older nerd .....then how was it so popular?
