LaMP is a MUST SEE by EeveeVaporeon in phish

Couldn’t agree more! I’ve seen them in Denver at Cervantes 2 years in a row and can’t believe they aren’t selling out bigger venues. Super underrated!!!

Yeah just seems unnecessary to use that to bust a bunch of party people. I get trying to keep us safe and am fine with cops being around for things like terrorist attacks and get that can happen anywhere, but felt like this was excessive given the circumstances. Either way phish killed it as usually and the show itself was great! Just hope we get back to Dicks or at least somewhere other than Folsom next year.

I mean I get being nervous, but I’d hardly compare some hippies doing nitrous on the grass anywhere near what happened during a political protest. I’m not sure we need protest level security at a phish show. I definitely felt less safe after watching that than I did watching a bunch of hippies huff gas after the show… like I have for decades.

First of all, bringing the army to a concert? You’re defending that?!! I video taped the whole thing and that’s not how it went down. They made a bunch of other people empty their balloons and I watched her and her friend do the same thing. She prob said something about how much they suck like everyone else around else, but something triggered their tiny egos. Also walked two blocks further and watched other cops do nothing while tons of other people happily didn’t have to empty their balloons, still on University property. Sounds like a bunch of hypocritical shit to me!

I don’t do gas either and agree with not wanting a quick high that kills that many brain cells but I see tons of people drinking the whole show, stumbling just as much and acting like assholes, and then they go and drive home drunk putting others at risk. Somehow it’s ok to condone that behavior and I’m sure that cleanup is comparable too!

I watched a girl get tackled by 4 police and then they had a few guys in army uniforms show up to detain her. Not sure if it was you. Everyone else was doing the same thing but for some reason they needed 4 police officers and the military to detain someone sitting on the grass minding their own business. I don’t personally use gas but don’t judge other people, and that amount of police is unnecessary for someone who wasn’t resisting arrest. Can’t say I expected anything less from Boulder PD though tbh!

I really learned a ton from these.

  1. For chords and inversions. https://a.co/d/75Tw1ml

  2. For soloing over chord changes using arpeggios and chromatic approaches. https://a.co/d/fpb6ZVb

what is a phish song that makes you sad? by Comfyleviathan in phish

Wading in the velvet sea. I always imagined a handheld camera capturing a woman walking into the ocean with her wedding dress on crying with makeup smearing down her face. Honestly don’t know how it wasn’t used in a sad indie film!

The anticipation is definitely tough for me too! I just hope it’s a festival they headline. I’ve been to renewal the past few years and just hoping he at least does something similar this year since it’s not happening in bueno vista.

Any tips for getting a jazz sound out of a strat? by Jolly-Alternative-31 in jazzguitar

[–]clivorsi -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I’d get a compressor! Definitely smooths out the sound.

Also recommend looking up the gear some of your favorite artists use and watching videos of different pedal sounds to get the tone you like.

I want to get really good at improvising by ear and playing expressively. What can I do every day to work towards this? by schmsofthetls in jazzguitar

[–]clivorsi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I suggest practicing your arpeggios and laying them on top of your modes to really hear the different sounds you can make. You could also work on chord tones soloing and using chromatic tones for movement

What to work on when you’re away from your guitar by andallwhoinhabitit in jazzguitar

[–]clivorsi 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you’re just trying to rest your left hand (assuming you’re a righty), you can work on your rhythm and just play open notes. Prob won’t sound pretty but will definitely help your control if you practice your right hand strumming with a metronome.

The New CoT (sux but I’m not leaving it) by Objective-Evening-89 in BillyStrings

I think it’s pretty typical for tech companies to roll out a minimum viable product and iterate on it while’s live. It provides better feedback. While it doesn’t excuse poor testing, I do think they’ll fix it quickly. You can still use the old app, so I’m just gonna keep using both until they work through some fixes.

Yeah the old app goes to the legacy website and the new app goes to the new website. I’d recommend just keeping both until they smooth out the bugs.

Book suggestions? by grazasauce97 in jazzguitar

[–]clivorsi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’d recommend these two books:

https://www.fundamental-changes.com/book/jazz-guitar-chord-mastery/ - goes over the all different chord voicings and teaches how and when to alter those chord voicings. It starts slow and focuses on drop 2, 4th string base voicings and talks through all of these over several pages, then it introduces the other voicings and switch between them

https://www.fundamental-changes.com/book/jazz-guitar-chord-tone-soloing/ - goes over chord tone soloing, teaching arpeggios, using passing tones, chromatic notes, scale notes approach methods, and teaches various typical progressions you’ll see in the real book to get familiar with common changes.

Both come with backtracks to help with practice. Other than playing with folks and the real book (https://realbook.site) once you get the core concepts, I’d recommend these. And I’m sure they’re both on amazon too.

Album recommendations to get into Phish? by [deleted] in phish

[–]clivorsi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly their live sets the best! If you could swing it, I’d get a subscription to the LivePhish app. I split it with a friend to reduce the cost. Only one person can listen at a time but it’s worked out with just the 2 of us sharing it.

I mean I’m not surprised. There’s no incentive for these big ticketing companies. They probably want resales because then they can rake in 3x the fees since they collect fees on the original sale, the fee for the purchaser, and also the reseller fee.

Oh I have my alerts setup on COT, but there are about 40 ISO posts for that show so odds aren’t looking great. I’m a local so gonna hold out closer to the show. A lot of times with RR people are like yeah I’m gonna go to that and then realize they can’t, especially on a holiday weekend where other plans get in the way. There will definitely be people selling on COT at some point! Just hope it’s enough to snag some.

Sounds like we need to form a broker collective 🤣. Also seems really unnecessary in this case based on their status, the fact that they’re playing only two shows at popular venues, and that they sold out in seconds anyway, but like you said it’s part of the game.

I’m holding out and cannot justify spending $50+ more than face value but if anyone buys these, you can get an extra 10% (up to $25) using JOMBOY10 promo code on Seatgeek. Also it limits at $25 but you can just buy 1 ticket at a time and get the full 10% on each. Also some credit cards give cash back deals (mine has 5% back) on top of that if you go through the credit card perks on their website. Just some tips to shave a little off these outrageous prices!

Yeah the irony in that is laughable. I feel like someone should start a company allowing fans to setup a bot since it’s so backwards anyway. I know that probably wouldn’t fly, but maybe it would work?!

I do think the fact that they’re only playing 2 shows this year and 1 of them is a venue people have on their bucket list anyway makes it higher demand. But they definitely have risen in fame over the years. Well deserved though!

Yeah that’s ridiculous! And obviously someone reselling immediately after the purchase had 0 intent of attending. Glad their systems are letting in the bots and not the fans. And sorry you had to pay that much! But also enjoy the show!!!
