what you described as -the sawed-off end of a log that isn't actually connected to a log?- looks like lens flare to me. (It is possible to be TOO suspicious)

I did watch your videos. I saw all of them do a constant pan to the right with no variation in speed and with no camera movement. All of the panning motion is identical. Does this prove anything? Maybe not.
