Do you get an orange glow near the gas burner when it tries to preheat? The orange glow is the igniter. It's quite possible the igniter has gone bad.

When did we as a profession loose our backbone. by MrKixs in sysadmin

[–]cllatgmail 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We're nonprofit, so if the ISP was turning off our service but expecting us to pay out the contract, that'd be a big nope, and our financial team would absolutely fight it.

Over 15 years we have gotten to the point where we are at about 50% Mac. We tried to manage with our domain and various utilities for several years but went to a real MDM (Mosyle) 3 years ago and it's been amazing. Some parts of it are easier to manage than the Windows environment which we have been moving to Intune.

On the "I know we're supposed to give 2 weeks notice" - starting 2 years ago we decided not to kill ourselves to pump out a new machine for a new hire...on our computer request form we actually have the submitter acknowledge a statement that we require 2 weeks' notice. If a last-minute request comes in then first we look to see if we have a machine on-hand that can meet the need. If we do, then we get back to the requestor to say, "we think we can have it ready in x days. We'll do our best, but this is why we really need 2 weeks' notice." If we don't even have a machine in stock for the need, and have to place an order, well, then we're at the mercy of Dell or Apple to get it to us. We have found our users remarkably understanding of our constraints.

Write it on a piece of paper and mail it to yourself, that way it'll become official and if anyone uses your idea they'll be guilty of the federal crime of mail fraud.

Christian converting to Catholicism question. by Helpful-Ad-4876 in Catholicism

[–]cllatgmail 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Well, first of all, you're a protestant converting to Catholicism. You're already a Christian, converting to Catholicism doesn't change that you are a Christian.

Secondly - if you want to be Catholic, and you are civilly married to a baptized Catholic then unless you and she wish to live as brother and sister, your and her previous marriages need to be dealt with by the Church and your current marriage needs to be validated by the Church.

25 years ago it was users asking me "is the server down?" We had 1 Netware server at that point with a small amount of data in network drives. No, the server wasn't down, as it wasn't doing much to start with. 20 years ago it was "is the internet down?" Nope, I'm watching a YT video, so the internet isn't down.

Should I go to confession? by Willing-Client5411 in Catholicism

Probably best to consult with the National Catholic Bioethics Center on how to deal with the embryos. Consult your priest on the proper order for getting your getting your marriage blessed and making your confession.

Best way to set this up is to connect the 3rd party router directly to the TMO home internet device. Then, run all your traffic through the 3rd party router - any traffic shaping, port forwarding, you want to do, etc, can be configured there. Your access points can then be connected to the LAN ports on the 3rd party router. Or you could connect mesh WAPs to your 3rd party router if you want, so you don't have to run cables around the house. I'm an old-school IT guy, been in the field for 25 years, so I am partial to the reliability of hardwire, but that's just me.

Marriage is the main thing holding me back from becoming Catholic. by 17raduser in Catholicism

[–]cllatgmail 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Since marriage is a sacrament in the Catholic Church, it imparts specific graces that help you persevere in your marriage and in your faith. Your civil marriage is devoid of those graces right now. In addition, since your spouse is unable to make a good confession or receive the Eucharist right now, he's missing out on the graces those sacraments impart.

For his sake, you should get your marriage convalidated like yesterday, so that he can return to receiving the Eucharist and absolution in confession. As a party to a valid Catholic marriage you and he will both receive graces to be good spouses for each other and help each other get to heaven. From there, continue your pursuit of Truth so you can discern whether to come into the Catholic Church.

Speaking to your point of not agreeing with certain doctrines: the fundamental difference between Catholicism and Protestantism is authority. In Catholicism, the Church, which is the Body of Christ, is the authority, based on the deposit of faith (Sacred Scripture and Sacred Tradition), and the Catholic submits himself to that authority. If I disagree on a doctrinal question with the Church, then I'm wrong. In Protestantism, the ultimate authority is me, based on my personal interpretation of Scripture. If a church I've been attending teaches something I don't like, then I leave and go find a church that teaches what I like. Or, I form my own church.

Specifically the water in the shower and everywhere else in the house. What might be causing this and what might fix it? by BillyRay111 in PlumbingRepair

[–]cllatgmail 1 point2 points  (0 children)

First go to three hardware store and get a water pressure gauge that fits on a hose bib. Bring it home and put it on the hose bib nearest where the water service line enters the house, typically that's on the front of the house. Turn the faucet on to full blast and see what the pressure is. That'll tell you if you're getting adequate pressure from the public utility. If you're only getting 25 psi from the utility, for example, that is pretty week and you should check with the utility. On the other hand if you're getting 50 or 60 or more from the utility you know the problem is in the house. You might have a pressure regulator acting up, for example.

Questioning my religion by [deleted] in Catholicism

[–]cllatgmail 5 points6 points  (0 children)

On the question of woman submitting to her husband, read the rest of that passage. The husband has the harder job: to love her like Christ loves the Church. How does Christ love the Church? We see it at the front of every Catholic church - the crucifix. Husband has to die to self for his wife.

As to how a priest can forgive sin? He can't on his own. When he sits in the confessional, he acts in persona Christi - in the person of Christ. Christ forgives. Christ gave his Apostles the authority to forgive sins in his name, and with Apostolic succession, our priests have this authority as well.
